2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (7 Viewers)

Bummer. ND first round pick CB Benjamin Morrison is now officially out for the year with a hip injury.

In the past few weeks we’ve lost our starting center, RT, top two rushing DEs, and now Morrison. Irish are going to hobble into the end of the season. With the opt outs, we’re down to 5 scholarship DBs left and two freshmen need to fill Morrison’s shoes now.

Good thing they have a cakewalk to the Playoff.

Schedule is embarrassingly pathetic this season. Injuries plus that spells disaster if they sneak in.

That said, one big name is missing that’d have made this year a bit less worse in optics : Miami.

Miami opted out due to a scheduling snafu. Irish replaced them with Army, which most years is a complete downgrade. Army looks good so far, but that Miami game would have helped the schedule a ton.

Army might be as much of a quality loss for ND as Miami would have been.

Interesting quote from the Memphis AD regarding the pending House settlement provides a glimpse at the new world order.

Memphis AD Ed Scott to his Board of Trustees on the pending House settlement: “The cap is gonna be between $21 (million) to $22 million (per school year). I can tell you right now: You’ve seen comments from Ohio State; they plan to share the full amount. Now Ohio State has over 32 sports and over 1,000 athletes, and they’re already making difficult decisions about where to cut back in order to invest in football, men’s basketball and some of their other sports. So you’re gonna see two things. You’re gonna see folks make difficult decisions about where they want to prioritize the revenue that they have in order to (determine) where to share it. [...] If Alabama and Auburn are both sharing $22 million with their student-athletes, what separates those two financially for being able to procure talent? … What’s going to separate that is gonna be the collectives.” More context: “I look at it similar to poker: You have to have enough to get in the game, but the person who starts at the table with the largest stack doesn’t always win the game. [...] So I think the real question for us … is gonna be, ‘What is the right size and scope for the University of Memphis, given our sport portfolio and our goals to get into a Power 4 conference?’ So that’s the approach that I’m taking with our coaches.

Tennessee has a receiver named Nimrod.
That’s a biblical name right
yeah, but i'd bet most people our age know it as a Bugs Bunny reference
There was a guy on my floor freshman year at UCSB named Nimrod. The guy looked like he was straight out of an Abercrombie & Fitch catalog; very good-lookin dude. Got just about any girl he wanted, was in one of the best fraternities, etc.... guess the name never fazed him.

I did end up changing my name after graduation though.

Biggest, most emotional win in memory, if not ever, last week vs OSU. Short week, fly 2,000 miles, across 3 time zones, and pitching a shutout.

Really impressed and proud of the boys in green ‘n yellow.

Miami's special teams coordinator might not make it to the next game. KO return TD, fake punt conversion in the 3rd quarter.

OU offense lookin great again today
If you're looking for a new OC maybe the Gamecocks can leave Loggains behind?
I gotta say since game 1 I have repeatedy said Littrell is terrible.

Half these college hiring processes are so backwards idiotic it blows my mind. It was the same in basketball. It's just who played or coached with a guy and stuck with the worst hours and lowest pay the longest.

You put me in charge of the hiring process and we'd immediately have like the SF assistant passing game coordinator as the OC. At least try someone who gets the job because they're a little qualified.

Restrepo with a change of jersey to avoid 2 players with #7. He recovered the onside kick using jersey #43. I've never seen that before.

GT kicking is atrocious. Kicker is 6/11 on the year and his two attempts today were muffed snap and then blocked kick.

Yayyyyyyy IU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder at what point the nation will take Indiana seriously. Not really played anyone yet, but 7-0, undefeated in the Big Ten and scoring 47 points a game is usually worth a top ten ranking. Beating Michigan could help but it might all come down to the Ohio St. game.
I’m starting to take them seriously after today. I expected it to be a closer today. I wonder if their new coach gets snatched up by someone like Florida after such a turn around at IU in one season?

Well, if theres one thing crystal clear so far this year, its just how wrong people were about McCarthy being "just a game manager" Ive watched the last two minutes and his absence is glaringly obvious.

Yea, he and Conor Stallions…
You must be a MSU or OSU fan.
Alum of both. So what.
Congrats (y)
To be serious though, UM going to definitely struggle this season without a leader on offense, especially at QB, like JJ was. For sure. He willed them to a few wins and was pretty clutch a number of times.
