2024 College Football Thread: Ohio State advances to play unbeaten hypothetical SEC team (3 Viewers)

I know a lot of you have been wondering lately, "Geee, whatever happened to Tom Herman? I remember when he was the most sought after coach in college football!"

Well, wonder no more. He was just relieved of his coaching duties at mighty Florida Atlantic University - what an exciting time.

FAU has a colorful past of college coaches, starting with the late great Howard Schnellenberger, Carl Pelini (Bo's more obnoxious brother), snake oil salesman Willie Taggart (Have a nice day if you want to), Lane Kiffin and add to it Tom Herman.

Apparently he was getting championship caliber color of pee from his guys.....

Brian Kelly seems…..incredibly unlikeable.
You sound ****ing uncoachable

Totally, it’s completely normal for a head coach to dress down his players on the sideline every time plays don’t go as they hoped (hint, they have like 24 assistants to do this not on camera). Multiple times a game.

I don’t know who you root for, so forgive my ignorance, but are you an LSU fan defending him?
I understand the complaints about Kelly, but Chris Hilton is not doing what he's been told to do multiple times before. He's probably LSU's most talented receiver, but is proving to be not very coachable. If addressing something in practice isn't working, then I don't blame Kelly for trying a different approach. Watch this clip for a further explanation if you want.

A team that's lurking that is arguably one of the top 12 teams is my Gamecocks. They definitely need a lot of help but it's not impossible to sneak in the playoffs. Sellers and the OL are getting better every week. With the way the defense is playing they look like they can play with anyone right now. If not for the screwjob by the refs in the LSU game they would currently be in the top 12.

Saw them play in person vs bama. They are legit

Yeah. I'd like to see them rise up and get in the playoffs. They would be some stiff competition.

Huge Boise fan the rest of the way.

Coworker's son got an invite to watch the BSU/NEV game last weekend - a few of his teammates joined him. I'd love it if BSU offered him (he's a junior, but plays with the Oregon Offensive Player of the Year at LO who DOES have an offer from BSU among other schools) so I'm rooting for 'em too (well, not when they play Oregon, but I know why you root for them. ;))
Yea, I'm a Beaver, but I have ton of family in Boise area. My mom grew up there. So I know a lot of Boise fans. I always root for em unless they're playing the Beavs. Also, Nike U is the evil empire as far as I'm concerned......in the Willamette valley all the sudden everyone is a duck fan! Lol

My aunt and uncle live up on a big hill and their house overlooks thr city. You can see the BSU stadium from their house, which is really cool. That's a city I could move too easily. Clean, compact, scenic, low crime, everybody outside....

I remember Boise as a much smaller, and more affordable city. It's really expensive now. It's been "discovered."......but yea, it's a cool area which is why it's been discovered. Idaho in general is pretty awesome, especially if ur outdoorsy.

The hits keep coming for the offensive line of the Buckeyes. Already their weakest unit, they have had two left tackles lost for the season and now their starting center (Alabama transfer) tore his Achilles in practice yesterday. Patchwork line for the rest of the season and hopefully playoffs.

Reportedly Alabama LB and former 5-star Keanu Koht was suspended from the team following a comment made on social media regarding Coach Deboer’s oldest daughter. Koht reportedly direct messaged her on Instagram and asked if she “wanted this horse” followed by a picture.

I'm planting my flag now - 5 SEC teams (out of 7 possible SEC/at large spots) in the 12 with 2.5 weeks left to go.

Georgia (wins out, loses in SEC championship), Texas (loses to A&M), Tenn (wins out, not in SEC champ), Alabama (wins out, beats GA in SEC champ), Ole Miss (wins out, not in SEC champ). If I have the scenarios right, ND has to lose to Army and A&M loses to Auburn. Would rather see South Carolina but hard to see how it happens with the SMU/BYU duo.

Watched a few Buffs games .....I say this with no hate, maybe it's just me but I just don't see how Sanders is a first round projected pick

Pedigree and desperation. He will be a nightmare to coach. Unless his dad goes with him.

He has the pedigree to be fantastic. I think a team desperate for a QB will draft him. That's how most drafts work, right? I also think he is going to be hard to handle as a player. That's an opinion. If I'm an NFL owner/GM I want nothing to do with the circus he will bring with him. Again, an opinion.

Dallas could use him and take his dad as a coach.
What circus? I live right here. I see a University doing fantastic right now. Team players are loved, they are winning and ranked. Excitement yes but hardly a circus.
Oh come on, it's still been a circus, ask the press and all the players that left, it's hardly been smooth sailing. Winning has just slowed the drama train down considerably, for now. But it will start back up again. Once Hunter and his kid are gone, we'll see what happens. Ya'll are just in between formals and prom is all.
There’s an absolute stud qb here in Georgia named Julian “JuJu” Lewis who is supposedly about to flip his commitment from USC to Colorado. He’ll be a 4yr starter in HS, and word is that part of the reason for the flip is that he wants to start as a freshman in college.
I’ve been following him the past couple years in hopes that he’d end up in CBus. At this point I’ll just be happy that he’d be out of the B1G.

I think he’ll flip. He does seem to be a better fit for Colorado and the bloom is off the rose for Lincoln Riley. Plus, he’ll get a seven figure NIL deal.
Yeah, there’s a pic taken on a recent visit to Colorado with Juju sitting on a throne and Shadeur handing him a set of keys.
Commits to Colorado. Clearest sign Coach Prime is staying

If Texas loses to aTm they are out. They have no good wins.

ND has no business losing to Army and I’ll give you numbers why.

Yes Army is undefeated, but…

* Army’s SOS is the second worst in all FBS
* Out of 134 FBS teams, Army’s “strength of defense faced” (how good the opponent defense is) ranks 134th out of 134
* ND defense is top 10 in every category ; the only FBS team who can say that
* ND defense is #1 in all FBS in Stop Rate - the number of opponent drives that end in punts, turnovers, or turnovers on downs

It’ll be windy apparently and ND’s defense always starts slow with a series to learn how the offense operates, but the number show they clamp down. Unless something weird happens, the above is signaling a Navy redux. Anything can happen with ND, but this week shouldn’t be it.

One of the underestimated consequences of NIL and the transfer portal is that the service academies are going to have good teams year after year.
  1. The players aren't likely to transfer. They are usually at these schools because they want to be there.
  2. My understanding is if they leave the school for any reason, they have to pay back their scholarship $s and that is a lot of $s.
  3. Most are not NFL talent, so there's little reason to transfer to get a better playing situation
  4. They've already made it through hell year once they get done with season 1. The rest is easier
  5. They are sometimes more mature than their counterparts at other schools
  6. They are mostly in the same system year after year
  7. The family type atmosphere from players being there for 4 years helps them gel as a team
I could easily see one of Army, Navy, or AF making the top 12 regularly in the current environment.

Contrarily, I could see teams like USC and UCLA having a harder time recruiting and in the portal. The concept that they have to play 5-6 games cross country would not seem to be appealing to the players, nor their families that want to see them play. It's even worse for sports than have more games, like baseball, volleyball, etc. The girls volleyball team at Stanford is traveling like 20,000 air miles this year. Insane

As more details on the story have come out, once Longstreet committed to USC but before the news broke, it appears that it was USC that contacted Juju Lewis to tell him they were moving a different direction. After that, he announced that he was decommitting from USC. And that was after Indiana told Lewis they were moving on a few weeks prior. I wouldn’t say Lewis going to Colorado necessarily means that Deion is staying.

Very interesting point and agreed. Also Navy slightly shifted its offense this year. The service academies run their own style that is unlike others, but are also starting to modernize it so it still fits the personnel they can rely upon with their rules but also differentiates them from a good majority of teams.

Playing at least Navy each year, I know that is the week the defensive coaches dread on the schedule. Every traditional game plan has to be thrown out the window and assignment football is huge. When the academies get seasoned teams coming into environments, it can spell problems for others because of the uniqueness of the style and the experience within the style for their players on offense.

What's the point of all this working to get kids to switch to Colorado and lying to people if your intention is leaving for another school or NFL. Makes no sense. Most logical take is listen to what Coach Prime actually says.

What's the point of all this working to get kids to switch to Colorado and lying to people if your intention is leaving for another school or NFL. Makes no sense. Most logical take is listen to what Coach Prime actually says.

??? I didn’t say anything about whether I think Prime is leaving or staying. I just don’t think that the Lewis commitment necessarily means that he is for sure staying. Coaches recruit kids and then leave all the time.

How can they not show a replay of that false start?!? Announcers say the defender "got away with one", but can't give us one single look at what happened?
