And that ends Alabama playoff hopes. I know a lot of people say it is undeserved, but there is no comparison between the schedules the 2 played. Same for Ole Miss and South Carolina. Oh well.
No way you can keep SMU out after that. Alabama...out.
They both suck? Hmm that's interesting. No way you can keep SMU out after that. Alabama...out.
Because they lost close to a Clemson team that was 0-2 against SEC opponents including an 30+ points smashing against the same Georgia team that Alabama beat?
SMU and Bama both suck and they should both stay home. I'll shed no tears for either. But 0-2 against ranked teams and nothing resembling a good win on their resume. They are trash.
This was the worst case scenario and the one I thought would happen. Needed an SMU win or Clemson blowout. A close loss gets them in I think. If Clemson pulls this off, Bama is out now with SMU coming back, right? Curious how the committee would then see it.

SMU is certainly an exciting team and they can't fault how their schedule shook out. I do agree they don't have a significant win. They will counter they don't have 2 dumb losses. I think SMU will be the pick.
SMU shouldn't be penalized for losing on a walk off 56 yard FG in the conference championship game while Alabama sits at home two weeks after a 6-win Oklahoma team absolutely dominated them. Alabama's only argument is their history and the SEC nonsense. They both suck? Hmm that's interesting. No way you can keep SMU out after that. Alabama...out.

"They can't fault how their schedule shoot out" is what you say about an undefeated team that didn't get a chance to prove themselves against a good team. Not a 2-loss team that had multiple chances to do that and failed both times.
I don't think Texas, PSU, and ND are locks in that order. Those three could be any order, IMO. Clemson and SMU should be 11 and 12. If Alabama gets in over SMU, then Clemson and Arizona St should be ranked ahead of Boise. The selection committee will have a fun time ranking the teams and setting up the matchups. Right now I would project it to be:
#1 Seed: Oregon (bye)
#2 Seed: Georgia (bye)
#3 Seed: Boise State (bye)
#4 Seed: ASU (bye)
#5 Seed: Texas vs. #12 Seed: ASU
#6 Seed: Penn State vs. #11 Seed Clemson
#7 Seed: Notre Dame vs. #10 Indiana
#8 Seed: Ohio St. vs. #9 Seed: Tenn
Lots to debate though:
Who gets the 4th and who gets the 12th between ASU and Clemson. ASU has a slight edge and gets the nod.
The 5 thru 7 seeds are pretty much interchangeable. How much will they penalize Texas and Penn St with their loses verse Noter Dame which did not play. IMO they keep their relative ranking the same.
Also the final at large Seed #12 will be between SMU and Alabama. As long as SMU kept it close, I think they stay ahead of Alabama which bumps Alabama out of the tourney. But Alabama always gets some favoritism, but SMU will still get the nod..
The other positions are locks.
Clemson is a bad team? Then what is Alabama?Watching these announcers bloviate on. "I think they've earned it, the way they went out there tonight they proved that they belong and they earned that".
They say about them after a loss to a bad 3-loss Clemson team.
12 teams is so dumb.

I don't disagree about South Carolina but they did lose to Alabama and Ole MIss too. Ole Miss has as much of an argument as Alabama and SC.SMU shouldn't be penalized for losing on a walk off 56 yard FG in the conference championship game while Alabama sits at home two weeks after a 6-win Oklahoma team absolutely dominated them. The obvious choice is South Carolina, who has no really bad losses, has at least 3 wins better than SMU's best win (probably more than 3), and has beaten multiple ranked teams including this same Clemson team, last week, on the road.
My Prediction -

They are not going to knock down Texas and Penn St that much for losing in their conference championships, especially when they were nail-biters.

My issue here is Texas gets punished for losing in their 'bonus' game and falls behind two teams that sat at home tonight? That doesn't sit right IMHO.My Prediction -
1 - Oregon
2 - UGA

4 - Arizona State
5 - Notre Dame
6 - Ohio State
7 - Texas
8 - Penn State
9 - Tennessee
10 - Indiana
11 - Clemson
12 - Alabama
Don't watch then. 12 teams created a lot better games with meaning including tonights game. 4 teams was stupid as they were leaving out 13-0 conference champions to make sure Alabama was gifted their spot.Texas is not good. You have an Arizona State team somehow getting a bye over them despite being completely off the radar the entire year.
12 teams was stupid.

How does the committee rank Penn State above an Ohio State team that beat them in Happy Valley? When they each have 2 losses?
Texas might not fall behind anyone in the rankings and still be #2. At worst they fall behind Notre Dame and that's a minimal thing in their seed.My issue here is Texas gets punished for losing in their 'bonus' game and falls behind two teams that sat at home tonight? That being the only argument is simply not correct. Alabama has undeniably much better wins than SMU. Alabama also has undeniably worse losses. A lot of people, both for and against, can not speak logically when discussing Alabama.SMU shouldn't be penalized for losing on a walk off 56 yard FG in the conference championship game while Alabama sits at home two weeks after a 6-win Oklahoma team absolutely dominated them. Right. Ohio St, Tennessee and Indiana feel locked into 8, 9 and 10 seeds in that order. If we're going to go on the wins thing, then SMU should probably get in over Texas. Texas played the SEC version of an SMU schedule. That being the only argument is simply not correct. Alabama has undeniably much better wins than SMU. Alabama also has undeniably worse losses. I believe SMU will get in over Alabama. I think Alabama did more on the field, but left themselves vulnerable with terrible losses. I will not be outraged when Alabama is left out, and I look forward to the future with Coach Deboer.
Oh I agree...but that ship sailed last week (and prior) with where they were ranked. My issue here is Texas gets punished for losing in their 'bonus' game and falls behind two teams that sat at home tonight? That doesn't sit right IMHO.My Prediction -

I hear you but what is Texas's best win? Over A&M? They don't really have much else.
I also don't think losers of conference championship games should drop below anyone behind them that didn't even play this weekend. Otherwise, they shouldn't even play these games. I was skeptical of Penn State myself but think they looked good tonight and deserve their ranking.Because Penn State didn't get beat by a 6-win team last weekend at home. I mean, PSU barely beat Bowling Green, went to OT with USC, and beat MN by 1. Not exactly a juggernaut here.
And then they lost - at home - to the very team we are ranking them against. If I were on that committee, I would have OSU above PSU. And I freakin' hate OSU.
Also - can we all just remember how Michigan beat Ohio State a week ago? And have won 4 straight? That's fun.
Tell me who two of Bama’s losses were to lolThey say about them after a loss to a bad 3-loss Clemson team.
If SMU is out, A) they should have won and not left it to the committee and B) the committee punishes playing in CCG which is BS. Please do what, imho, is the only right thing, and not punish teams for their bonus game and cave to the name that is Alabama.I also don't think losers of conference championship games should drop below anyone behind them that didn't even play this weekend.
