Michael roberts would be a great late pick imo- can block and be a red zone factor. I would like Butt or Kittle as well (hold the jokes). Take 2 of them, why not? I also hope we take corn elder simply because of his name. Is that a nickname like HaHa (Dix)? Who names their kid corn? Its certainly not as good as 7.....
I think the combine is important thought for setting thresholds and validating what we see on film. Forget a guy like Obi. He's an all world athlete, but he doesn't look a very special player on the field. This isn't about workout warriors, it's about a guy that really might now be able to run and jump with NFL WRs.
I agree. Previous GMs seemed to want to pound a particular position in order to fix it with numbers of players and not by actual talent. This reduced our ability to fill holes on an annual basis. Quinn seems to know our exact weaknesses and clearly had a handful of players pegged in all of them. He'll miss on some but I like his technique.
Considering previous GM's include the likes of Millen, any GM is going to look like a genius.
Kaaya was a great value pick and I liked it already. I am not a Rudock fan at all so I loved the pick even more.
I agree, and I'll even give rudock some credit, but kayya was a great value and while rudock would be a serviceable backup kayya has the tools to develop into a starter. Always good to have a starting caliber qb as a backup.
I think people's opinion of this draft will be largely determined by how they feel about the Tabor pick. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground. People either really like the pick or hate it. I like the pick a lot and I know I am in the minority. Personally, I agree strongly with Quinn when he says Tabor plays faster than his timed speed. He has great instincts and ball skills and I liked his closing speed. His combine tells me he needs to hit the weights (bad high jump and low reps). His 40 time is concerning but his film trumps that for me. QBs had a QB rating of 41.2 when throwing Tabor's way and thats impressive in a conference like the SEC.
I didnt care for this pick either. I really wanted Godwin and had Tampa not taken him right before the Lions were on the clock, I have to wonder if the Lions would have picked him instead of trading back.
I do think the Lions got screwed in the 3rd. If you look, the drop in quality (especially at WR) happened right before their pick.
I would feel a lot better if they would have been able to land Godwin. The Galladay pick just didn't feel right. Would rather have had Josh Reynolds at that point. Time will tell.
Reynolds definitely had more pre-draft hype. They look pretty similar. It really sucks we missed on Godwin. If he got him, this draft would look a lot different.
Pass rushers in the mid rounds didnt impress me much so I dont have a problem with the lack of additions there. Quinn signing 3 rotational DL in free agency suggested they might not take one early unless value was too good to pass up.
Sherman also was 6-3, had an average bench and was very strong in the vertical. Norman is the best comp here as Norman is about the same size, speed and low vertical. I think both play more of zone schemes as well. I'm feeling a little more comfortable with the pick after looking at Norman.
I saw that this morning. Rotoworlds throwaway lines are hard to fathom at times.
Rudock will never be a starter in the NFL...but I like his upside better than Orlovsky. I know that is not saying much.
Quinn was on 97.1 this morning with Stoney & Jamie....and even though he wouldn't explicitly talk about free agent players, there certainly seemed like an opened door to me.
