I agree with this, but in redraft leagues, Forsett makes a valuable RB3/Flex type.

He is averaging 15 touches/game (AT LEAST 12 in each game), and 80 YFS each game. In PPR leagues, he's even more valuable, as he has at least 3 catches each game.

He won't win you many weeks all on his own, but he should be a solid (if boring) option.

Forsett looks like the guy to own, because he not only seems the most effective rushing, but he also participates in the passing game. Unfortunately, I don't think the Ravens would ever like to give him 20+ carries in any given week.

Coach John Harbaugh said Monday the Ravens have no plans to scrap their three-man running back rotation.

Justin Forsett has emerged as the lead dog, but Baltimore ranks ninth in the NFL in yards-per-carry average and is the only team in football with three backs above 30 rushing attempts. "We'll roll those guys in there," Harbaugh said. "I'd like to see Bernard (Pierce) get a few more snaps. I'd like to see Lorenzo (Taliaferro) get a few more snaps. It would sure help if we get a few more snaps. If we get more snaps, then everybody is going to get more chances. You earn the right to run more plays. We have to earn that right by executing." This has become a "hot-hand backfield" to the fullest. Forsett has the most stable weekly role.

Well what do we think about Taliaferro? Is he droppable yet? I'd love to hold him for a few more weeks but my bench is already stuffed with incubating RBs (McKinnon, Knowshon, Antone Smith, CJ Anderson) as well as all the talent sitting on the ww (Storm Johnson etc.)

I would've liked to see him get more carries as the weeks progressed.

I had to drop him for Oliver. Wish I could've waited a little longer on him though.

Bernard Pierce rushed 15 times for 32 yards and one touchdown in Baltimore's Week 6 win over Tampa Bay.

Pierce actually out-carried Justin Forsett 15-14, but Forsett out-gained him 111-32. Also, Pierce was getting a lot of run in the second half when Baltimore staked itself to a 38-0 first-half lead. Forsett is still the guy in the Ravens backfield. But it's clear Pierce is back ahead of rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro, who rushed just two times but managed 29 yards. Pierce had a long run of six yards Sunday.

It's funny how Forsett was just sitting out there in free agency land before Kubiak took notice and then the Rice incident. He might not even be on a roster right now if not for all that.

That would be an awful landing spot for him. His vision is already suspect and JAC's OL couldn't open up a hole to save their lives. BAL's OL is above average and Pierce is still struggling (15 for 32 last week :X ). I'm mostly excited for Taliaferro if this trade rumor turns out to be true.

I can still see the "so dramatic" tweet. I don't know what the "cutting off all connections" would be in reference to other than the obvious.

 
arent players usually the last to know they are traded?

I highly doubt the Balt organization told him, hey you are on the block and put your house up for sale

Justin Forsett rushed 23 times for 95 yards in the Ravens' Week 7 win over the Falcons.

Forsett ripped off 21 yards on a first-quarter outside run off the back of Ravens LT James Hurst. He now has a 20-plus-yard run in six straight games. Unfortunately for Forsett owners, he was vultured at the goal line by Bernard Pierce in the second quarter and was largely bottled up beyond the 21-yarder. Forsett will remain a solid RB2/flex in Week 8 against the Bengals' weak run defense.

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley expects Lorenzo Taliaferro to take over as Baltimore's goal-line back in the absence of Bernard Pierce.

Pierce is a healthy scratch against the Bengals and appears to have been passed by Taliaferro on the depth chart. Although Taliaferro's fantasy usefulness has been hit-or-miss all season, the fourth-round rookie out of Coastal Carolina is averaging a rock-solid 4.52 YPC and now has a bead on red-zone carries in Gary Kubiak's running back-friendly offense entering a plus Week 8 matchup against the Bengals' league-worst run defense. Taliaferro is suddenly a compelling flex option in TD-heavy fantasy leagues and should be owned in all 12- and 14-teamers.

Justin Forsett said he has a "minor" ankle injury and plans to play Week 9 against the Steelers.

Forsett was held out of practice Wednesday. We'd like to see him return to at least a limited session on Thursday before feeling comfortable with him for Week 9. Players always tend to be more optimistic on their own injuries, so owners need to keep an eye on Forsett. Lorenzo Taliaferro would be next man up.

For dynasty leagues, is Pierce a hold? I just picked him up as a throw-in in a trade. I'm rebuilding my RB corps. I also have Lorenzo. I'm debating whether to drop Pierce in this league since it is a salary cap league and right now he's not worth his salary. But if he were to get traded and become a starter, he would be. Does he have the talent to become a workhorse? He certainly has the size and he's still young. But will he ever find work as the lead dog? Seems like peoples opinions of him are all over the place. He's been in several locations now and seems to always find himself looking up on the depth chart. Does he have an attitude/work ethic problem?

Taliaferro has barely been used since fumbling in Week 9, totaling three carries over the last three games. Justin Forsett is playing at an All-Pro level and Bernard Pierce has taken over No. 2 duties. Taliaferro remains a Dynasty hold as Forsett is on a one-year deal and Pierce has scuffled badly since an impressive 2012 rookie campaign.

ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley says it's a matter of when, not if, the Ravens take a running back in the draft.

The Ravens' depth chart at running back currently reads 29-year-old Justin Forsett, 2014 fourth-rounder Lorenzo Taliaferro and practice squad type Fitz Toussaint. GM Ozzie Newsome doesn't draft for need, but this year's running back class is deep enough that he won't have to reach at all. Forsett, a nice fit as a pass-catching back for Marc Trestman, doesn't fit the standard mold of an NFL workhorse back. His role this season is not yet set.

Of course they're going to draft a RB, but the only ones that concern me as a Forsett owner are their 1st and 2nd.

Here’s the full breakdown of where the Ravens will select in this year’s draft.

Round 1: No. 26
Round 2: No. 58
Round 3: No. 90
Round 4: No. 122
No. 125 (from Detroit for Haloti Ngata)

Since 1990 there have been 299 RB's drafted pick 90 or later - in their rookie years only 54 (18%) have had more than the 366 yards Pierce had last year.

 
The Ravens RB is going to the top of my redraft board this year, even if its a 3rd round guy. The Ravens have the second best offensive line in the league... lots of upside, even for a mediocre talent. Just look at Forsett! He was 29 and never did much before running behind that line. I'm going to reach in redraft to make sure I get any RB they draft.

I'd be very surprised if Forsett gets beaten out by a 3rd round or later RB but injuries do happen. I like Taliaferro's chances better to be the starter over a rookie if that happens though.

In dynasty, you absolutely want to own whoever they draft. Taliaferro is talented but he's already 24 later this year and I think the future starter for the Ravens isn't on the team yet.

 
Ravens' Forsett preparing for competition to arrive via NFL draft

The Ravens’ offensive backfield is expected to become slightly more crowded following the NFL draft.

Although the Ravens signed running back Justin Forsett to a three-year, $9 million contract in March to be their starter, they’re likely to reinforce the position in the draft.

“My job is to go out and produce and make plays and have an impact,” Forsett said Wednesday, the third day of the Ravens’ voluntary offseason conditioning program. “If they bring someone else in, just go ahead and compete.”

The Ravens have brought in Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon, Indiana running back Tevin Coleman and Boise State running back Jay Ajayi for visits and recently sent running backs coach Thomas Hammock on the road to evaluate Minnesota running back David Cobb.

They met with Northern Iowa running back David Johnson and Miami running back Duke Johnson at the NFL scouting combine.

Forsett revitalized the Ravens’ running game last season as he rushed for a career-high 1,266 yards and eight touchdowns during a breakthrough year as the replacement for former Pro Bowl running back Ray Rice.

He’s expected to mentor second-year back Lorenzo Taliaferro and likely a draft pick.

“I’ve been in the game going on my eighth season, so even with the guys here, being a leader, being able to mentor those guys, I can help them on and off the field,” said Forsett, who was given a $2.1 million signing bonus. “I feel like that’s what I’m here for.”

Named to the Pro Bowl as an alternate last season, Forsett led the NFL with a franchise-record 17 runs of 20 yards or more. He also led the league with a 5.4-yard average per carry and caught 44 passes for 263 yards.

“I want to get stronger and faster,” Forsett said. “I want to build on last season. I want to be around the guys working out, building camaraderie, getting the terminology down.”

I'm assuming "top" doesn't literally mean the TOP of your redraft board. Ravens running game could be good again but I'm tempering expectations a bit given Kubiak's departure.

Ravens fourth-round RB Buck Allen could be a factor on third downs "right away."

Allen admits he'll likely be a backup "for a while," but that doesn't mean he won't see the field behind Justin Forsett. Allen is big at 6'1/221, but is a noted pass protector with plus hands. New OC Marc Trestman loves to target his running back out of the backfield, so Allen is a name to watch in deep PPR.

Justin Forsett - RB - Ravens

Justin Forsett's grip on the starting job got stronger following the draft.

The Ravens waited until Round 5 to take a running back, settling for USC's Buck Allen. He profiles as a strict backup on early downs and a pass-protection/third-down specialist. Draft weekend couldn't have gone much better for owners of Forsett stock, as he'll project for 16-19 touches per game once again.

Based on watching post-draft practices, ESPN Ravens reporter Jamison Hensley expects Baltimore to keep the zone-blocking scheme in place.

The Ravens will "borrow" outgoing OC Gary Kubiak's zone scheme under new OC Marc Trestman, who may dial up more pass attempts but won't tweak the system. It'll remain a West Coast offense that maintains inside- and outside-zone concepts on running plays. The Ravens ranked No. 8 in the NFL in rushing offense last season, and return all five starters on the offensive line.

The Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec believes Lorenzo Taliaferro, Terrance West and Trent Richardson are competing for one roster spot.
Justin Forsett, Buck Allen and rookie Kenneth Dixon are roster locks, leaving the other three to compete for likely one spot. A 2014 fourth-round pick, Taliaferro should be the favorite provided he can stay healthy, but that has proven difficult thus far in his career. CSN Mid-Atlantic speculated Taliaferro's roster spot is "under pressure."

Ravens' backfield may be four-headed monster

ESPN's Jamison Hensley suggested the Ravens could employ a four-back committee to start the season.
With nobody playing well enough to separate from the group, Hensley thinks the Ravens could open the season with Justin Forsett as the starter, Buck Allen and rookie Kenneth Dixon as third-down backs, and Terrance West as the short-yardage option. That kind of split seems unlikely, but it is a reminder of how fluid the situation is in Baltimore's backfield. For now, Forsett is still the best fantasy option, but the best play could be to just stay away.Aug 25 - 10:16 AM
