2024 Outlook for Ravens RBs - The King Henry era is here! (1 Viewer)

I actually watched the whole game last night and minus the one play out of Williams I thought he looked mostly lost and that td my dad could have scored on.

That being said it's all speculation now and we shall see. Murray is a good back.  He had a  150 carries last year and averaged 4.5 ypc.  He has very limited tread on his tires.  Bell will be in play as well
How's your dad in pass protection?  Sounds like the Ravens could use him.

Williams had 3 players for over 10 yards - Murray had zero.  I just don't see Murray being the better runner.  He did a lot of things better than an UDFA, but I chalk a lot of that up to Williams taking an NFL field for the first time.

Didn't catch the game last night, huh?  Murray looked awful.  Sloth-like speed... given a ton of opportunity.  Williams could have scored the TD Murray had.  I cannot confidently say the same about Murray scoring that long run Williams had.

It seems Baltimore is having an identity crisis.  If they work on the option plays and get a little bit of pass protection figured out - Williams is far and away the best player in that backfield.  They should have stuck to the script in the first half, because they gave the game away in the second.

Fantasy-wise, I don't care.  He is like my RB 6/7 but I seriously see a lot of talent, vision and speed... not sure what the Ravens saw out of Murray.
I thought the same thing in regard to the game. In the 2nd half it felt like they'd play-fake to Williams on first down, then bang Murray into the line on 2nd down for little or no gain. Then when you thought you might not see Williams again, he'd be in on a 3rd down and blow the pass protection.

Williams did appear lost a few times and sometimes the zone read looked a little awkward with Lamar. But I thought he looked much better than Murray and should've gotten a few more carries, particularly in the 3rd Quarter when they had a lead. For the record, I have Murray and not Williams.

The fact that he was active over Bell and Freeman despite being signed just 4 days prior AND the fact that the coaching staff seemed to trust him in the 2nd half over Williams- again after being in town for just a couple of days bode well for him continuing to be a factor all season.

ETA:  typo Bell/Murray

I had assumed Murray's number (up to $2M) was palatable to them, and they saw enough of him last year and in the pre-season to sign him before Week 1.  For Bell and Freeman, i think there are many more questions regarding what kind of shape they're in and whether they have anything left in the tank.  Since they're vested veterans, wouldn't Baltimore have had to guarantee their base salary if they signed either to the active roster prior to Week 1?  Not sure how it works.  That's why I assumed they parked them both on the practice squad, as well as to see if Week 1 injuries made it easier to bring them up without cutting a player.  One or both will be coming up this week.  If either looks better than Murray, I don't think he's guaranteed any specific role in the pecking order.

I believe that Williams has more talent and upside than any (based on where they're at *now* in their careers).  But if he can't hang onto the ball and/or pass protect well, his talent might not be enough to get him a majority of the carries.

Cannon released sounds pretty negative for Williams. That means he will most likely be doing special teams going forward. I think Bell is still worth a grab to see what happens. He can pass block the best of the group and that's what they need.

How do you figure Cannon release means Williams doing ST?

10 team keeper league where RBs get .25ppc, 1.5ppr, and .15pts/rec yd with a 3pt bonus at every 50yds/rec, I paid a 2022 2nd and 3rd for Ty’son and BCooks

No one’s selling RBs right now even though I have 2 2022 1sts to offer, but I’m fine with the gamble that over course of season be turns into a good RB2/3 for my team with upside.  I can’t fathom Bell or Freeman making an impact, they’ve looked done for a couple years.  Maybe Murray proves us all wrong and is the guy, but I see him as a minor threat season long

I don't see bell Freeman or Murray being gunnars on kick offs

They must have a quick WR type capable of doing that duty.  With the injuries to their RBs I can not imagine them risking Williams as a kick returner.

Guess we'll find out next week.

Between all the shilling one thing I didn't notice posted here was that the Ravens barely ran Pistol offense at all in that game (15 snaps if that much). If we are elevating Ravens RBs due to Lamar and the Pistol, well they need to run it w/o messing it up, and that goes double for Ty'son Williams. Even guys like Damien Harris and preseason darling Rhamondre Stevenson are getting punished for putting the ball on the ground... Ty'son should have the 1A role but how much Latavius/another back can eat into the 1B and 1C should be interesting.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said the team has "four backs in the mix" and will "play all those guys" moving forward.

Harbaugh danced around Ty'Son Williams' concerning second-half usage from Monday night and instead used the time to tout all four — Latavius Murray, Devonta Freeman, Le'Veon Bell, and Williams — of the team's backs. Bell and Freeman haven't made it to the active roster just yet, but Baltimore is expected to use one of its two vacant spots to call at least one of them up ahead of Sunday. Williams was clearly the better back when on the field, averaging 7.8 yards per touch, but will presumably be in a timeshare moving forward. Him and Murray should still be considered low-end RB2/3s in Week 2's inevitable shootout against the Chiefs.

Ravens promoted RB Devonta Freeman from the practice squad.

Ravens had two vacant spots on their active roster and decidedly chose Freeman to be promoted over Le'Veon Bell. Coach John Harbaugh said he'll rotate all on game days moving forward, squeezing Ty'Son Williams' touches despite his immense talent over the others. Bell could still be added in the coming weeks, making this a four-headed hot-hand backfield rather than three. Freeman is an easy player to avoid in fantasy.

Well this won't help Lamar or the run game:

Jason La Canfora @JasonLaCanfora

The Ravens are preparing to be without All Pro LT Ronnie Stanley this week and possibly far longer ad he undergoes more medical testing. Villanueva slides back to LT, his natural spot, with Patrick Makari next up to RT. OL was already under fire before this setback

Ravens OC Greg Roman said Baltimore's backfield will continue to "rotate guys in and out."

"We really just kind of rotated guys," Roman continued. "The game played out the way it did. We're not going to put in one back and have him play the whole game. Those days are over. We're going to rotate guys in and out." Ty'Son Williams played 24 snaps during Baltimore's first six drives on Monday, for example, but was only in on 11 for the team's final seven possessions despite out-performing Latavius Murray and Trenton Cannon (since cut) both on the field and in the box score. With Devonta Freeman promoted to the active roster, Baltimore will apparently rotate Murray, Freeman, and Williams for the foreseeable future. Le'Veon Bell also remains buried on the team's practice squad.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Ravens could "roll with the hot hand" for their backfield in Week 2 against the Chiefs.

He noted that Ty'Son Williams, Devonta Freeman, and Latavius Murray "should all see carries." The addition of Freeman turns this backfield into a trio and could make all three backs useless for fantasy purposes. Murray and Williams split the carries in Week 1. Williams totaled 65 yards and a touchdown on nine carries and looked like the more explosive back of the two in his debut. However, he also missed a crucial pass-block late in the game that resulted in a Lamar Jackson fumble. Williams is a risky but viable FLEX option this week while Freeman and Murray can be left on the bench for now.

Dang, Le'veon Bell still not on the gameday roster? (Asking, not telling)

Don't worry, Bell speculators. Once I cut him from my squads, more Ravens RBs will get hurt  and Bell will turn into peak Marshall Faulk.

I don't think they are using the same practice field are they?  😜

Ty'Son Williams rushed 13 times for 77 yards and caught two passes for 16 yards in the Ravens' Week 2 win over the Chiefs.

Williams got the start for the second straight week. The Ravens rotated all three of their running backs, but Williams led the backfield, playing 49% of snaps over Latavius Murray and Devonta Freeman. Williams was the most effective of the three, averaging 5.9 YPC. He saw some red-zone work, but fumbled a goal-line carry into Devin Duvernay’s hands for a TD.  The Ravens’ three-back committee is going to be tough to predict on a week-to-week basis, but Williams is the touch favorite going into Week 3 against the Lions.

Tonight provided clarity. Williams is the the speed and cut runner, Murray is out there for the hard yards running straight into the line. They combine well.

Paging @The Frankman - can you please add the information that you pulled from the FF Reddit here?
It's not that I found any legit info, it's tons of people self-verifying that Ty'Son is going to start, play 100% of the snaps and is going to run for 150 yards and 3 TDs; It's insane.

All I was trying to say is that there is a chance Williams will occupy Bell's role.

Ah yes - I went back and read what you posted:

This is a legitimate chance Ty'Son is active to fulfill the Justice Hill role (3rd RB who gets 10-15% of the snaps) as opposed to the lead RB/2020 Ingram/Dobbins role (>60% of the snaps) or the backup RB/finisher (25-30% of snaps). That is all.

In a largely catchup mode game script:

PFF: Immediate fantasy football takeaways from NFL Week 5 Monday Night Football

Murray: 36/73 snaps (49%), 6 carries, ran 16 routes and targeted 3 times

Freeman: 20/73 (27%), 1 carry, ran 16 routes and targeted 3 times

Williams: 15/73 (21%), 4 carries, ran 11 routes and targeted 2 times

Numbers are skewed due to the game script so they had to abandon the run, but Murray the lead back in the Ingram/Dobbins role, Freeman and Williams pretty much combined the Gus Edwards/Justice Hill role (1B and 1C). It's pretty much what I thought it would be... FF Reddit is melting down as we speak doe.

To be honest, Freeman looked the best RB out there yesterday. He had some pep in his step. With Latavius limping off he might actually be worth an add this week.
Freeman looked quick to and through the hole, Bell his usual slow steps.  Any updates on Murray?
