2024 Outlook for Ravens RBs - The King Henry era is here! (1 Viewer)

All the people saying "pot gets you 16" and beating your girlfriend "gets you 2" need to put down the pipe and see that there is more to it than that. One guy is getting busted every few months breaking the rules and the other guy got busted the first time breaking the rules. Obviously if they both got busted for the first time and got these sentences then there would be a problem. I do agree that 2 games is weak though. But Gordon deserves 16 as well.

I dont think his suspension was long enough. I can see why the nfl was lenient on rice and harsh on gordon. Its not the acts its the arrest history.

That said. I think we can expect rices adp to rise but if it doesnt he will be a steal at his price

In terms of "breaking the rules," could you provide a ratio? For example, 'x' failed drug tests for weed = beating a woman with 'y' punches? 2 to 1? 3 to 2?

If Gordon "deserves" 16 games, let's call it for 4 offenses. If Rice deserves more than 2, let's call it 4. In that instance, a single failed drug test is equal to a single domestic violence beating.

:grad:

2 games? Lol. Nice message from the league here
Yep, pot gets you 16 and assault gets you 2. What kind of message is that Goodell?
I think this logic is convoluted. First time pot offense = NOTHING. Two games for first offense >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>NOTHING

So I smoke weed often, does that make me a worse person than a guy who beats his wife? I think Gordon should be suspended, but how do you suspend him more for smoking weed? This should be interesting.
Because Ray Rice doesn't ave priors of beating a woman every 6-8 months. THe penalty to Gordon is every bit as much about unheeded warnings and progression as it is the actual offense.

You have to think they're going to want to push back hard against the narrative that the NFL cares more about players smoking weed than beating up women. If I've heard that 100 times, Goodell must have heard it a million.

And that press conference was a bad look for the NFL. So I wouldn't be surprised to see him lose half a season for this.
Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. Apparently Goodell is completely comfortable with that narrative.

The NFL has sent a strong message. Smoke weed and get 4 games, KO your spouse or girlfriend and get 2 games. Hopefully the Ravens as an organization will do the right thing will tack on at least 2 more games.

My God. This is a full blown FFA weed debate thread. :porked: Can we get back to the implications of fantasy football?
Any time you bring up Gordon it becomes a weed debate. No matter if you're online, at work, talking to your grandmother, etc. It's ridiculous.

I'm with you though and it shouldn't be. The guy broke the rules repeatedly. Even if the rule is as dumb as saying you can't wear baseball caps and you decide to ignore the rules and wear baseball caps over and over, you should be suspended for a year. It has nothing to do with pot.

As far as Rice, I agree it should be longer as the offense is more serious. But then again, guys that are acquitted of murder even though a lot of evidence points to being guilty are allowed to play football and in fact are heralded as being a hero and a man that every player should look up to.

That's life. Some guys get lucky and get away with things and some don't. Don't break the rules and you'll be fine. If you decide to break the rules, especially repeatedly, then you should deal with the consequences no matter how fair or unfair they are.

Easy to see who all the "seller's remorse" owners are.

Come on guys, it's fair and its not bad on the NFL. It is in line with Big Ben's issues a few years ago as a FIRST time offender vs. a knucklehead who is getting tagged for dope every 6-8 months. Gordon's issue is about repeat offenses and that is the only reason this is a "16 game ban for dope".

When i heard the news i came on here looking for the 50 page thread from fantasy football's View.

You guys must've slept in today

The one where there were no police charges even filed and Big Ben got a 6 game suspension (later reduced to 4)?

Yeah, 2 games for going Tyson on your wife in public -- not in line with that.

Bottom line this is a big win for Rice owners.

A 4+ game suspension would have made it tough for the Ravens to plug Rice back in as the starter if Pierce or any of the back up RB's showed anything. Now if Rice shows anything near his old form Pierce will be a 2 week placeholder to start the season.

Just because a report isn't filed does not mean an act didn't occur. Many rapes and domestic abuse cases go unreported for many reasons.

So, boil it down to what it is: The NFL did their due diligence and talked to all parties involved and decided in both cases what they believe really went down. They also had the benefit of actually talking to Ray's wife which may have shed a lot of context to this situation.

In the end, Ben gets 6 (reduced to 4) in what was widely perceived as rape or sexual assault with a very young woman and Ray got two for hitting his wife in public and it getting out to the public.

Is Rape/sexual assault on a girl you had no business being around worse than a spat with your fiancé (wife) that gets physical? Court of public opinion says yes.

Repeated drug abuse, despite multiple warnings with no signs of reeling it in worse than one incident in 7 years of a non-drug related matter? Public opinion says yes.

This decision is reflected correctly because regardless of our personal opinions (and I have already stated in this thread once that what Ray did is generally deplorable), the reality of it all is that people (the general public) can, on some level, accept that couples fight and one might get out hand one time, but they make no excuses for drugs, rape, etc.

And not so good for Pierce buyers, where i was one. I figured 4 at the worst but now I'm searching to see who owns Rice and put some feelers offers out there. 2 games doesn't seem like enough time or Pierce to possibly establish himself and get comfortable in a feature role. This suspension only negatively impacts Pierce.

Good grief. I want to believe this is all schtick, but I know better.

The CBA governs exactly what happens to a player for failing drug tests. Goodell has no discretion and it doesn't matter what he wants to do or doesn't want to do.

Off-field incidents are governed mostly by precedent and, as far as I can tell from looking at recent suspensions under Goodell, the Rice suspension is in line with what's come before.

there was a report filed and this wasn't unreported. The police looked at the evidence and decided it was not sufficient to even charge him with anything.

I think you may want to recheck the exit polls on that one.

Tyrelle Pryor got 5 games for getting a free tattoo in college. This is in line?

Why? Because he punched someone who punched him first? Or are you sexist and you feel that way because it was a girl he punched back? Would you feel differently if Rice was in an argument with some guy and the guy hit him so Rice hit him back? Either the sexes are equal in this country or they aren't.

The NFL was working with the NCAA to make sure guys who were suspended couldn't just jump to the NFL in the supplemental draft and avoid the punishment. I disagree with that too, but it's not really relevant here.

If you want inconsistency, here's a better one:

The couple had been arguing before just before 1 p.m. when Tibbott locked herself in a bedroom, the police said.

While Tibbott was trying to call 911, [James] Harrison broke down the door, took her cell phone and broke it in half, according to police. Tibbott said Harrison then hit her across the face with an open hand and knocked off her glasses.

Police said Tibbott had "red marks" on her left cheek. She had called them after the alleged assault, saying she was afraid of Harrison.

Harrison drove from the house in a Hummer and was pulled over minutes later by Franklin Park police. Police said Harrison corroborated her account of the incident, according to several Pittsburgh-area media outlets.
No suspension.

It's very relevant. Hitting your wife=2 games. Free tattoos=5 games.

I agree. Goodell shoulda suspended Harrison and he's a coward for not doing it.

So if we're keeping score, open handed slapping your girlfriend and she doesn't lose consciousness it's 0 games. Knock your wife out cold and have her take the blame it's 2 games. Get some free tattoos in college it's 5 games. Goodell is a joke. A complete joke.

You saying it this way 100 times won't make it any more true. There's no NFL policy against getting free tattoos. In fact, I'll bet lots of players are sporting gratis tatts.

The NFL suspended Pryor because its defacto minor league, the NCAA, stood to lose power if the NFL let Pryor skip out of the NCAA's suspension by entering the supplemental draft and they didn't want to facilitate that. Again, I think that's a poor decision but it really doesn't have much to do with the Rice case.

Dude knocked out a woman then dragged her out of the elevator. I do not give a #### what his prior history looked like. It should have been the entire season.

They are not equal. It is ridiculous to assume so. You have to have context. This is not an interview for a job.

So Goodell should have the power to look at what happened in the years before he became Commissioner, throw that precedent out the window, and fine a player $4,000,000?

I thought the knock was Goodell had too much power, but now I'm finding that it's he has too little. Go figure.

Let's get back on topic. Nothing debated here will change anything. He is suspended for 2 games. How does that impacyy his fantasy value? Is he still an RB2? Which tier does he fall in? Who would you take before and after him?

Pierce's value takes a hit here obviously. Only two games until Rice returns, and they are tough divisional matchup against Cincy and Pittsburgh.

As an owner still bullish on a healthy Pierce being used to good effect in Kubiak's zone scheme, but was hoping for a 4-6 game window to get him some rhythm in the offense and really evaluate him.

You can't be serious. A 100 lb woman vs an NFL running back? You think that is a fair fight?

All he had to do was walk away instead he punched her so hard she was knocked out. And then he drags her around, trying to get her out of the casino so he wouldn't get caught.

Rice is a thug just like a lot of NFL players (James Harrison included)

I bought Rice for the first time ever in two startups this year where he fell to RB25 and RB36. I expected that he'd miss 4-6 games and figure other people were avoiding him for the same reason. So his ADP will probably start bumping up again -- probably even more in redraft.

Disgraceful job by the league.
I don't know about you guys, but screw Fantasy Football for this guy.He is on my personal do not draft list, and I suggest a worldwide boycott.

I used to be a big fan, but he is on my hate and do not draft ever again list.

He should have been banned for one year by the league.

Outrageous.

As long as we are only looking at one penalty in comparison to another, this is a great point.

Rapelisburger is the one to get pissed at here, and is the one who should be facing the year long suspension (at minimum)

Disgrace what the league did with this. Even worse the posters here discussing profit margins on a wife beater and trying to minimize the brutality of this act. Says a lot about each one of you who are doing this.
