2024 Philadelphia Eagles - First one was for the fans. This one was for the team. Next one is for the legacy. (26 Viewers)

Getting that record would put him on a better track for a HOF legacy. I kind of think they owed it to the Line and the fans who showed up yesterday. Injury always looms in the NFL. A chance at history doesn't.
With the current 17 game schedule (and 18 likely to soon follow) Saquon’s record total would have been passed before he even hit his HOF eligibility year.

It takes more than just volume of carries. You need to average over 5.5 ypc. Only 3 RBs did that this season (Henry, Barkley and Gibbs).
The 6 other 2k RBs got within less than a 100 yards (closer than Saquon) to breaking the record in the same (or less) 16 games.

A 17th, and maybe 18th game, increases the odds of it getting broken, assuming we all agree Saquon would have been pulled after getting the record and probably only bested it by a few yards.

Also, YPC isn’t a constant because total carries are a big variable. A back that gets 24 carries/game (Saquon had 22/game) only needs 4.8 YPC in an 18 game season (8 RBs did that this year) or 5.1 in 17 games.

Bottom-line, it’s a more reachable record because of the increase in games. Unlike other records like an undefeated season, which gets less reachable. That was threatened once in the last 52 years, and a 17th (and maybe 18th) game just keep decreasing the chance it ever happens again.

Only 58 times in the history of the NFL has a player gotten 350 rushing attempts. Only 1 player in the last 5 seasons has gotten more than 350 carries. It's hard to get that many carries. You need to stay healthy, you need to have a feature back that gets the carries, you need a coach that calls for rushes at that level. Only 6 RBs played 17 games this season. It's not that easy. But, if you're lucky enough to have all that fall your way, you need to average a high YPC.

Is health a determining factor in winning the Super Bowl?
Would you rather have injuries players or not?

I can’t believe I actually had to ask that question.

The mental gymnastics, even after seeing players get hurt yesterday, is just wild to me. Every single Lions coach, player and fan would want their starters back.

You're totally missing the point. Playing players doesn't guarantee injury. Having all your players available doesn't guarantee winning.

No one is talking guarantees.

Players playing increases risk of injury. Simply playing is adding wear and tear.

Having all your starters increases your chances of winning.

Nick's presser going on currently. Expectedly wouldn't comment on Jalen' playing status for this coming weekend, but he also wouldn't even comment on whether he's in the building. I'm beginning to get a little sweaty on this Jalen situation.

Eh, he is Captain Gamesmanship here. The rules for clearing a concussed player are so vague, like if they don't want to even try to pass thru it, I don't think they have to until injury reports are due. Couple that with how good Tanner McKee has looked, I believe this is a play to make the Packers at least waste a little time looking at McKee film.

That's generally my feeling as well. Still concerned.

During the game yesterday, the announcers said Hurts was at the walkthrough on Saturday, but no one local reported it. Apparently, Sirianni grudgingly admitted that after the game. He's playing the ridiculous hide the injury game. Maybe it gives a slight advantage, but I have my doubts.

Point is, I think Hurts will be fine to play and would have yesterday if it was a meaningful game. IMO, of course.

Per ESPN, the New Orleans Saints have reportedly requested an interview with Eagles Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore for their head coaching job.

If there was a team I'd wish he'd interview with if we had to give him one, this is a team. In Cap shambles, not a ton of great youth/talent to work with on offense.

If I was the packers I wouldn't spend a second on it. If you get McKee it's a bonus.

Tyrese Hill wants out if Mia. Go work your magic Howie.
Want nothing to do with Tyreek. People have a problem with AJ who is a model citizen at WR. What do you think will happen if we get Tyreek here?

A hell of a lot of TDs. AJs had issues since college. He’d had been a top 10 pick but dropped do to issues in college.
You don't think Tyreek would be in Jalens ear the first time he doesn't go his way enough?

If Jalen can’t take WRs demanding the ball then maybe he’s not cut out to be an NFL QB. QBs always have to deal with WRs demanding the ball.
Yeah…that Mahomes and Reid guy couldn’t deal with him either. Those two aren’t cut out to be a QB or HC….

Jesus man 😂 You’re our Finkle and Hurts is your Marino 😂

The team wasn’t going to Pay Hill. It had nothing to do with behavior. This is like some type of reverse history per Forbes

“The major reason for the trade was that the Chiefs were not willing to meet Hill's asking price, and he ended up signing a four-year, $120 million contract with Miami. That average annual salary of $30 million still ranks as an NFL high among NFL wide receivers.Nov 5, 2023”

They can pound sand. Hopefully Moore sees he has a good thing going here. I could definately see Lurie firing Nick if we lose Sunday or don’t reach the conference championship after last year though

If I were looking for a HC job, the Saints would be at the bottom of my list. They are 2 years away from being 2 years away.
What do they even have that screams if want to coach that team. I definately think Carr is under appreciated as a player and QB overall but Kamara is on his last wheels and outside of Olave no one on Offense. Can barely tell you who defensively I’d even take right now from them unless you put their roster in front of me.

They also have a Sh** ton of overpaid past their prime players hogging massive cap space and a few of them make little sense to trade or cut right now. Almost no trade assets either

I don't believe this at all. If this WERE true, we'd have had more then one guy come somewhere remotely close since they went to 17

This was only the 4th season of 17 games, and if Barkley had played a 17th game, most agree there would already be a new record. And Henry was even closer than Barkley just 5 short years ago in only a 16 game season.

Every single-season “accumulation” record set in a 14 game season was eventually broken in a 16 game season. And they were all pretty much reset by a material percentage:

Passing Yards: 16 game record is 35% more than 14 game.

Passing TDs: 53% more.

Receiving Yards: 12% more.

Rushing TDS: 47% more.

Barkley would have realistically beat the record by 5, maybe 10 yards? Then they would have pulled him with 2,115. That’s essentially equaling the record in one more game.

If there’s an 18th game added before 2035 (Barkley plays 5 more years plus 5 years retirement for HOF eligibility), it’s significantly more likely someone would get within striking distance like 7 others already did in 16 (or 14) games, and get 2,116 or 2,120 to beat Saquon.

It’s definitely a tough record to shatter, but giving players 12.5% more games to reset it by just a dozen or so yards (which is only 1%) is reasonably realistic.

That's why I said they're two years away from being two years away. It's going to take 2 years to get out of cap hell. If they draft well over those two years they'll be two more drafts away from being good (assuming they continue to draft and sign good players).

For all the offseason talk about Nick Sirianni as the "CEO coach" — there were 7 teams that won 12+ games in the NFL this season. Only 2 of those 7 (KC, MIN) have coaches who call plays on offense or defense.

Among active coaches with the highest win %: 5 of the top 8 don't call calls on offense/defense.

How many HC's call plays?

Quite a few from what I understand. In our division alone everyone does except Nick and Quinn (I don’t think he does anymore but could be wrong).

Season prediction contest results are in and congrats to @jon007 on a pretty accurate prognostication! Runner-up @dude made it close, as it went down to the 2nd tie breaker:

jon007: 14-3, with 11 of 17 weekly wins/losses correct, and 477 total points scored predicted, which was only 14 off the actual

dude: 14-3, with 11 of 17 weekly wins/losses correct, and 408 total points scored predicted

Honorable mention to @Ruffrodys05 for a 16-1 prediction that was only 2 easy dropped passes away from actually happening.

I know it’s early in the week but there’s some chirping at the Novacare Center that Hurts could miss Sundays game. No word on how close he is to clearing or not but there’s at least something going on making people worried he may not go Sunday and it’s why they kept Pickett out of the game (or at least as QB2) so he wouldn’t get injured either.

He should be cleared on Wednesday when he’s first eligible to when they practice.

Nick isn't getting firing unless he slept with Lurie's daughter. He'd probably get a pass if he slept with his wife.

Not good, just burnt a second rounder on Hurts in a playoff league. Even if Hurts being out wasn't a death sentence, having to burn two flex spots on both Eagles backups would be.

Not eligible to practice today?

No. He can’t clear protocol until they practice and they won’t practice until Wednesday.

Lurie is all about winning. He was ready to fire Schwartz after the SB as he was embarassed by the defenses performance outside of the BG sack/fumble

Could be just precautionary or gamesmanship but yeah it’s early in that leg week too.

i will say this. if hurts is for some reason not ready to go on wed for practice, i really hope they just hold him out. that means it was a fairly serious one and i dont want to see him going full tua on us in this next game. if he needs longer to heal up than let him do it.

If he's not practicing tomorrow, I'll worry. That said, I'm not worried.
Media/haters: Jalen Hurts is a system QB, Jalen Hurts is a running back

Media/haters also: What are the Eagles going to do if Jalen Hurts isn't cleared from the concussion protocol before the playoff game?
You hear ‘haters’ voices in your head, don’t you?

He lives rent free in that tiny head of yours doesn’t he, troll? 😂. It’s 2025 and here you are still 😂

All men in my family were born in Baltimore.
All men in my family's generation are all early 1990s converted Cowboys fans.
Other than me.
I'm on a group text with these guys.
You can guess how the conversations go.

Looks like the Jags plan to as well
The league really needs to do move these past the SB. It makes no sense to allow this during the most important games of the year.
Yeah I don't understand why they do it like this, at all.
Yea. Take Detroit. Greatest season of their franchise history. Best OC they've ever had is out doing a string of interviews instead of locking in on winning a super bowl for a franchise that never has.

There's plenty of time after the bowl to do this. Whiny loser owners want the head start though.

kinda depends on the coach. i would finish my job and worry about getting another one later. esp if you are a hot name. they will wait for you. there is no rush

But the mid level guys can't wait if the owners want to move now.

true

The Eagles have waived QB Ian Book. I think this is a sign that Hurts is good to go.
Saw that. We're good.

Made the mistake of putting on talk radio for a minute today. They even had Ike Reese worried Jalen wouldn't play. The hole topic was who should start, Pickett or McKee.
