*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: one and done again. (34 Viewers)

Leroy is smart to stay out of this one. Due to this going on for way to long. Latest rumor has Brandon Ayuk renogotiating with the 9ers after meeting with Kyle Shanahan.

Cut Najee, start Ward!
Welcome to the Jonathan Ward experience. Always looks like a stud in preseason, then never gets a shot in the regular season. It was infuriating watching Cardinals games 2-3 year ago in the preseason and seeing Ward look awesome, and then the regular season starts and he's light years behind Chase Edmonds.

Man, it's the first PS game, but after all the talk on how good the practices have been, what a train wreck.

Fields, I jumped the gun on, he didn't look that bad.
Jefferson just isn't a #2. He wasn't bad tonight, but long haul just don't see how he is going to pick up the slack when Pickens gets doubled. I wonder if they will bring in JuJu after his release.
The OL has some young guys on it, but it looked bad, especially on run blocking.
Frazier got to be the starting center from game 1 on.
Harris, just move on from him already.
The pass rush was ok, but secondary was in mid season form, especially with the miss tackles.

Preseason games don’t mean anything, especially the first one.

Yeah why I said it's the first PS game, but after all the talk on how great they looked at camp, it was a disappointment. No way am I jumping off the bridge, but next week is a must win IMO.

Steelers still in play for Aiyuk per Tom Pelissero

Report: Asking price includes a 2nd and 3rd round pick.

They aren't getting him..Pickens is FA after 2025 I believe, his asking price is going to be high.

and it begins...

On the Nightly Sports Call on KDKA, so guy calls and wants to know why we would pay Justin Fields when Kyle Allen is better.

I assume you are kidding. A PS game is a must win 🤣 🤣 🤣

Season is over. Pack it up fellas :P

Joe, be honest do you really want to start 0-2, preseason or not?

So apparently, Aiyuk turned down 32M a year from New England.. So either he doesn't want to go to New England or thinks he is worth more than he really is.

I think he now resigns with the 49ers.

Sack issue is probably going to be a theme with either QB. OLine isn't going to hold up long and having 2 of the slowest QB getting the ball out is not a great combination. Hopefully Fields or Russ can pick up the decision making tempo.

Fields going 5/6 under pressure was very nice. Passes looked good. Very disappointing about those 2 fumbled snaps. Would suck if that is the reason Fields ends up losing out to Russ as starter. Other than that, Fields has been impressive.
Guessing we will see Russ start next week. so we shall see how Russ handles things.:towelwave:

Only pre season, but it was a lesson for others to see that Fields hasn't changed. His flaws are still what they always have been. Slow to process and react if the first read is covered and lack of pocket awareness being the biggest of them all.

Not sure what to think on Aiyuk stuff. My guy probably is not close enough to it and it also seems ever changing. What I find interesting is all reports are that the Steelers are unwilling to part with any players, but what I heard had Daniels and/or Austin available. Unless perhaps that was what SF was asking for and not what we offered. Who knows.

But Steelers have been serious and engaged on this since the Spring.

I think most likely scenario is he stays too. Khan will not over pay.

I would think JuJu is coming home too. But not based on anything I heard.

JuJu Smith has lost a step. So even though I'd like to see him come home. I'd be ok with him going elsewhere. Except for Kansas City who's already stacked.

Brandon Ayuk drama just appears to be player and agent drumming up interest while the 9'ers waiting for the right offer for a Brandon who's a key player for the 9'ers who can help the 9'ers win the Super Bowl. I've been saying all along Brandon stays.

I 100% don’t care. It means nothing,

This isn't a team that's one $30M receiver away from winning the Super Bowl.

And this just in, water is wet. Don’t recall ANYONE here saying that.

I love Aiyuk and 100% he makes the team better plus some insurance in case Pickens is out with injury. Makes the offense better and should translate to improved time of possession and more first downs. Points too.

I’m sick of watching that vile excuse for an offense last few seasons. An elite WR who blocks well is an ideal fit. CMC massive TD run week 1 vs Steelers sprung from Aiyuk’s key block running up the left sideline. I was there. Think he also caught 2TD that game and made a huge difference.

If Aiyuk was a steeler that day instead of SF, we still would have lost. But maybe it wouldn’t have been a blowout before halftime.

I think you are underestimating the effect of an elite WR. Adding an elite WR to the team would make this at least an above average O, but I think top 10. The D should be top 5. That is good enough to be in the mix for a SB

I am starting to think the Steelers were never serious players for Aiiyuk. They might have asked about him but the price tag he wanted was too high??

You really should have prefaced the bolded sentence above with "I think"; there's no guarantee adding Aiyuk makes this a top 10 offense.
It's not a statement of fact. That's just like, your opinion man.

That said, I like Aiyuk, but keep in mind, the Steelers aren't stealing this guy. There will have to be a significant financial commitment as well as handing over assets (draft capital and/or players). This also doesn't change the QB situation. Wilson might have some gas left in the tank. Fields may prove to be a revelation with a change of scenery. But this is by no means set in stone.
Oh, and we'd be bringing him in to learn the system in - at best - mid August.

Could Aiyuk be that last missing piece (regardless of what pieces we may need to send to SFO to complete the deal) to make this a Super Bowl team?
Anything's possible. But a whole hell of a lot would have to happen to make it so.

I guess this is just a longer way of saying: This isn't a team that's one $30M receiver away from winning the Super Bowl.

This D is not top 5.. Maybe top 5 getting to the QB, but they still have issues in the secondary and the tackling is poor.

Right now, this is probably a 6-11 to a 9-8 team, maybe they will win 10 games, but the second half of their schedule is such a killer.

No one knows if they will even want George back in 2026. He acts like a child. If he grows up, he can ask for and get $30M somewhere. Also, by then, Roman Wilson will be developed enough to know if he is a WR2 to Aiyuk WR1, and that would be fine.

If Aiyuk is with the team and attending team meetings, I am certain he is going to stay with SF.. I wonder now how serious a move to Pittsburgh or any other team was.

Agreed. When the Browns were involved I thought there was a chance they might over pay him and the 49ers. There was never a chance the Steelers were going to do that.
