2025 Buffalo Bills (2 Viewers)

Josh Allen reminds me of a bigger Tony Romo. Absolutely amazing some games, and also leaves you scratching your head in others.

I suspect you guys will be fine.
Jets are done
Miami is being way over hyped
New England is a 6-8 win team

Brutal loss - better days ahead.

It's only week 1, there basically is no pre-season anymore so lots of bad football was played this week. Josh Allen is still one of the best in the league, but this game just reinforces how fans can never be super confident in winning a title- he can implode at any moment.

This is the first Bills season in quite a while that I just haven't been especially invested in. As a fan, I have to openly admit that it's really just vibes, but I can't shake the feeling that this team got into a serious funk down the stretch last year and I'm deeply skeptical that they really snapped out of it. I don't pretend to know what the deal with Diggs and Allen is and I'm inclined to think that it's overblown, but look. It is not normal for a very successful defensive coordinator to just take a leave of absence and have the HC fill in. That's a red flag. I don't know exactly what the problem is, but it indicates the existence of a problem. I am not sold at all on Dorsey nothing I saw last night moved my priors on that one.

Plus, this team needs an infusion of new talent and hasn't gotten it. I don't think Tre White is ever going to be the same player he was pre-injury (he's still fine, just not elite), and we still don't have a dependable starter across from him after years of trying. Hyde and Poyer are both getting rather long in the tooth. We didn't really replace Edmunds, like at all. Spencer Brown is not getting it done and we don't have an answer there. We are going to need to replace Morse and probably Dawkins in the near future. Obviously I'm not talking about a rebuild or anything like that, just that the Bills are at that point where a lot of the key role players who got them here probably aren't going to be capable of keeping them here because they're getting old and/or because the new guys have mostly not helped out.

This probably sounds like I'm overreacting to Week 1, but I was a little doubtful of the idea that the Bills were just going to take the field this year and everything was going to be fine. Whatever their deal was last year is still there.

It's only one game.

If you would have told me the Chiefs, Bills, and Bengals would be 0 for opening week I would have laughed. These three teams will be fighting at the end for that #1 seed as usual. Maybe throw Miami into that mix, but they are one Tua hit away from a .500 season.

It sucks for sure. But they will be fine. They are too good not to be.

You know it's funny, you articulated the thoughts better than I did, but this is exactly how i feel and just posted in the panic meter thread

There has just been something off.

What a week for the Bills. Oof
I remember back in the 1990s, when I was living in central Indiana and had to follow the Bills by reading stuff like USA Today and Sports Illustrated. I sometimes thought about how cool it would be to live in the region and see your team covered in your hometown paper and local news.

Now I have professional journalists and YouTube content creators pushing fake controversies into my timeline.

I'd prefer to go back to just watching the games and not having any ****ing idea what's going on elsewhere.

I hope the major takeaway for Josh is that they can win by trusting the defense and taking what the opposing defense gives them.

Defenses more and more are playing a 2 high safety look versus the better QBs, especially ones like Mahomes and Allen that like to make chunk plays outside of structure. Teams play them to limit the big play and force them to take smaller gains on longer drives and hope they get greedy and make a mistake. That’s exactly what Josh has done over and over in those situations. Yesterday against a pretty lousy team he simply took the short easy gains over and over and over again and it lead to lots of points.

He still got to make a couple of unreal throws for TDs, but he didn’t need to launch ridiculous passes downfield to double covered receivers.

Now the trick is to show he has the patience to do this when he is pressured/rattled.

It still amazes me that every team in the league doesn’t use this offensive strategy when it has won so many superbowls.

Since the opening drive TD against the Raiders
6 INTs
2 Fumble Recoveries
1 Turnover on Downs
6 Punts
2 FGs
2 end of first halves

The Bills have a more complete team than Miami, a better defense. Miami's defense has been shredded on the ground by LAC, and in the air by Mac Jones and Russell Wilson. If Fangio can limit Allen and the Bills, I'll be a believer. I'm not sold on him and the defense yet.

Tough to see the Bills shutting down Miami's offense. The game being at 1 PM means maybe we won't get way-too-overhyped hero-ball Josh Allen though. It's a pick'em.

I'll admit though, while I'm not sold on Terrel Bernard over Tremaine Edmunds, he has been very good through 3 games. I think he still has a lot to learn and will get exposed a bit as the season goes on, but he's clearly showing more playmaking ability than Edmunds ever did. I might be a little biased, seeing such a small MLB compared to the hulking monster that was Edmunds....but maybe that's where NFL defenses are going, for speed and coverage instead of run-stopping big fellas. I'm hoping I'm wrong and that Bernard keeps up this play throughout the season....sky's the limit for a 2nd year player and he's been good. There's nowhere to go but up for a guy who barely played last year and missed the entire preseason. Surely has to be AFC defensive player of the week.

In 3 games Terrell Bernard has as many sacks and INTs as Tremaine Edmunds ever had in an entire season.

As good as Buffalo’s front 4 have been, Bernard, Milano and the secondary are the keys for this upcoming game. The front 4 don’t matter against Tua unless the back 7 can make him go through his reads. McDaniel is such a genius and Miami’s receivers so explosive that Tua’s first read is open a huge percentage of time. He’s a fast processor too. So expecting the front 4 to get to him without the back 7 doing an excellent job is probably a losing strategy.

My biggest concern is the lack of speed by Hyde and Poyer. They are still savvy vets, but they have taken some bad angles the last year+ because they’ve lost some speed, so Miami’s speed could be a serious issue.

After this game there is stretch of games against so-so teams. I wonder if they will give Von a couple more games off than the mandatory 4.
Didn’t he say something about possibly not being ready after the 4 weeks? Which is strange because he also said he was cleared? And also said he was trying to get back as soon as possible.

The Bill's defense seems better than last year. But the Miami offense, with a better run game and a better oline coach and Achane is also better. The individual numbers don't show it, but LG Wynn and RT Austin Jackson are improvements over 2022. I hope C Connor Williams is healthy. MIA @ BUF is the game of the week.

My thoughts:

-The Tre White injury is devastating. He was back to being an elite corner. That INT he made last week was unreal. He was back to being the fun upbeat guy that brought energy to the team. His loss is huge both from an on field perspective and from an emotional perspective. Crazy that the foursome of White, Hyde, Poyer and Miller still will have never played a single snap together.

-This is Elam’s chance. We all know Jackson will be the starter now, but they desperately need Elam to take a leap. He has elite athleticism and could be a shutdown guy which is something Jackson will never be. It’s now or never.

-The O-line play has been tremendous since week 1. Dawkins has been great and the guard play has been really good. Torrence has been such a difference maker at RG. Even Brown has held his own. A good offensive line is a game changer for this offense for what it does for the run game and for what it does for Josh’s game. You can see his trust in them right now. They have gone up against some elite pass rushers and DTs the last few weeks and pretty well shut them down.

-Diggs is HIM.

-Leonard Floyd has been tremendous and Groot has been wrecking house. Even Epenesa has been playing really well.

-Oliver and Jones are both making life for offenses really tough. They’ve been great in both the run and pass game.

-Bernard has been so good. He’s in control of the defense and all over the place. Everybody said that the Bills wouldn’t be able to shut down the middle of the field like Edmunds did but he’s doing exactly that and more. His instinctual play and quick processing is allowing Milano and Taron to play faster and looser

-The talent at the RB position has been a big upgrade. The Bills have true short yardage threats there but also have guys who can rip off big gains.

-Kincaid opens things up just by being there and being a threat. IMO, we’ll continue to see more of him as the season progresses. Be forced safeties to have to play a bit closer to the LOS.

-Josh Allen is MVP so far. When he slows down and doesn’t try to be Superman, the offense is near unbeatable

Two more:

-Moving on from Frazier and McDermott taking over the defense was the right call. The defensive playcallling has been fantastic

-Dorsey may be coming into his own a bit. The play calling and game plans have been pretty good. Less deep shots and getting rid of the screens has been nice. Still a few too many runs up the middle on first down, but they’re running well enough that it’s worked enough to keep them out of 2nd and long. And he seems to be keeping defenses off balance.

According to PFF, the Bills are currently the best pass blockers in the league. Credit to Beane for getting it figured out because it’s made a big difference.

As an outsider looking in, to me this is the Bills year to get it done. The Chiefs receivers are going to be a hindrance all year, and while the defense is a lot better a team like the Bills can still carve them up.

Your defense is better than the Dolphins, so I think you guys have the advantage there. The Bengals look terrible to be honest. And the only other threat in the AFC is the Ravens.

As an old AFC guy if my Chiefs can't get it done I'd rather it be you guys. It's time to win it though. And despite the injuries, with Von Miller coming back, you guys are the best overall AFC team.

Just one man's thoughts.

Mat Waldman has some nice analysis of the Bills defense

I know the Bears won, but that game last night was a reminder that I’m glad the Bills didn’t pay Edmunds a ton of money only for him to be invisible all game and hear about how he “affects the game in non-stat ways but trust me he’s really really good.”

Rousseau out with a foot injury. Not great. Hopefully they can get that healed up with him sitting just this week. Would be great if Miller can go this week and at least help pitch in a bit.

Waldman is a film junkie but he commits absolute boners that show he's just not quite thinking straight. Like saying the next matchup between the Bills and Dolphins will likely come in the playoffs. No, dummy, divisional opponents play each other home and away. There's still a game to be played in Miami during the regular season.

Anyway, that's neither here nor there for this thread, but he always has slips like that where you just shake your head.

I'm following him because he's from the U and the Dolphins chose Phillips over him in the 2021 draft. After a slower start to his career than Phillips, Rousseau has caught up and I'm wondering if the Dolphins made the right choice. Grier almost always picks the more athletic guy for upside (except Tua over Herbert), but it doesn't always pan out. TBD, both are injured in 2023.

I just can’t anymore. Guy punch after guy punch. Don’t even care about the loss. But McDermott after the game said that it doesn’t look good for Milano or Jones. Guessing both are done for the season. IMO, that’s basically a wrap on Super Bowl chances. Josh Allen makes them fun to watch most weeks, but I’m feeling like I won’t have a problem finding other things to do on Sundays now either.

Remember a few years ago when they were one of the least injured teams. Those were the days…

A lot of focus will be on Milano but Jones was crushing it this season too.

The way the guys were playing, the Bills basically lost a Pro Bowler for the season at all 3 levels of the defense in the last 7 days.

The Bills have a bunch of depth, but you simply can’t replace guys like that. If one of them gets hurt you can do things to try to mitigate it, but losing 3 guys like that guts a defense.

10 days ago everyone was excited to add Von Miller to THAT defense, and now it’s going to be bandaiding and scrapping just to scrape by. Brutal

I hope to revisit these negative posts and have you guys regret it. I still believe McDermott will get the D to do “enough”. The offense will have to win a lot of games for us but with Allen it’s possible.

I hope that’s the case but highly doubt it. Unless Kincaid becomes a difference maker offensively that they hoped or gabe Davis becomes a legitimate every game contributor I don’t see the bills doing anything to make a real run.

Milano fractured his leg AND likely tore his ACL.
I make it no secret, one of my fav LBs in the NFL, wish Miami had a Milano
I hope you all don't think the season is over, I saw what you all did last week, let's see where we are Week 17/18 but I understand your frustration as a fan base

Don't get down, plenty o' teams would trade places with the Bills and move forward from there.

Is there a different Josh Norman or did we really just sign the same guy who was terrible for us 3 years ago and is now 35 years old?

Last year it was Brown and Beasley off the street. Beane needs to loosen the damn purse strings and give up some assets to shore things up via trade.

Bringing back these old guys out of semi-retirement is a joke.

This isn't as bad as people think. The Bills have been favorites (or at least contenders) to win it all for a few years, and they always come up short.

They're still talented. Maybe the pressure will be off and they'll relax in the playoffs if nobody thinks they're going anywhere. I could see them beating anyone in January. Maybe a humbling regular season is what they need.

If you haven’t seen the “highlights” of Elam you might not want to look them up.

Just brutal.

Easy to see why he was inactive. That is a very bad miss on a first rounder from only one year ago. Once Jax realized they could just target him in the 4th quarter it was lights out.

Might be too late to trade him now, but it might to time to salvage something in hopes that another team thinks they can turn him around. Ideally in a package deal bringing a better CB back.

I think I’ve said this before. But I really believe Beanne was going to take a CB with that 1st no matter what. I think he wanted McDuffy and once KC traded up in front of us he settled (or panicked) for Elam. He never even fit our scheme. It was a bad pick from the get.

Donte Jackson a viable option? I’m not familiar with his game and his fit with our D. Just know Panthers announced he’s available for trade.

Season's over. I mean, sure I'll tune in for the inevitable wildcard game, but really this is going to end up being a wasted season, just like last year.
Boy was I wrong about this. That wildcard game is not at all inevitable and is actually looking pretty unlikely at the moment.

I don't know what the deal is with this team, but it's more than just the injuries. I'm inclined to say that unless things turn around dramatically, Dorsey must go and McDermott has to bring in a legit DC, and if he won't agree to that then we need to start talking about our HC. This is obviously a coaching thing and it's on both sides of the ball.
