Good point. Hopefully they have early outs built in.Seems a lot more reasonable than Anzalone'sCominsky resigned! Bringing the gang all back in FA plus some CB help.
2 years, 8.5M, 4.0M guaranteed, another 1.0M incentives
Did we get details on AA yet?
Length, total and average are meaningless. the only important thing is what is GTD at signing, effectively guaranteed, e.g., what's the Cap Space/Dead Cap impact.
Most contracts are backloaded and aren't worth the paper they're printed on.
If Anzalone's is $10M or less GTD and we can get out after a year when he gets surpassed, who cares? Pretty low stakes.
It very well could. We got 2 legit starting corners without breaking the bank. The only question is Moseley's health. They have flexibility now in that they don't necessarily have to spend a first rounder on a corner. It's a deep class and they could take one in the 2nd or 3rd.I wonder if this means Detroit isn’t planning on going CB early?
David Montgomery hmm maybe no Jamaal

Really out of the blue. Good back though - Lions have a scary backfield with Monty/Swift, assuming Swift is still a lion.David Montgomery hmm maybe no Jamaal
Did not see that one coming
Wrong...and it only took a few minutes to hear something.I haven't heard a word about Jamaal Williams or D.J. Chark. I think Williams will sign but I don't know about Chark.
Yep - both broken tackles and elusiveness (missed tackles) - IIRC Monty is among the best at that.I really like the Montgomery signing. He is similar to Jamaal Williams but younger and also is always among the league leaders in broken tackles. Seems like a perfect fit.
I thought they fired Bob Quinn. I guess they forgot to deactivate his keycard.David Montgomery hmm maybe no Jamaal

What?I thought they fired Bob Quinn. I guess they forgot to deactivate his keycard.
I think it’s a bad signing, reminiscent of the previous regime. What?I thought they fired Bob Quinn. I guess they forgot to deactivate his keycard.
Actually I rescind that comment. It’s more Matt Millen-like.I think it’s a bad signing, reminiscent of the previous regime. What?I thought they fired Bob Quinn. I guess they forgot to deactivate his keycard.
I think the exact opposite. I don't see anything bad about it. I guess time will tell.I think it’s a bad signing, reminiscent of the previous regime.
Elite-tier ploy.David Montgomery hmm maybe no Jamaal

Yup. Can’t argue with that.I think the exact opposite. I don't see anything bad about it. I guess time will tell.I think it’s a bad signing, reminiscent of the previous regime.
Agreed. Locker room might be unhappy for a bit .. but Monty has that “Dawg” just like Jamaal had - younger, and more skilled. I love it.I really like the Montgomery signing. He is similar to Jamaal Williams but younger and also is always among the league leaders in broken tackles. Seems like a perfect fit.
It’s a lot guaranteed. One might suspect he’ll have a sizable workload.David Montgomery 3 yr $18M
$11M GTD
I heard on the radio that the Lions were 9-3 when Cominsky played and 0-5 when he didn't.
Younger, better receiver, significant difference for the good in breaking tackles compared to Williams and is a competent pass blocker. YPC similar. This is an upgrade. Another parameter in evaluating the signing is how much $ Williams wanted.I really like the Montgomery signing. He is similar to Jamaal Williams but younger and also is always among the league leaders in broken tackles. Seems like a perfect fit.
Montgomery is going to be the grinder and has a reputation of playing through injuries. The Lions need a homerun back. I do not think they trust Swift and believe they will seek to upgrade from Swift.Really out of the blue. Many players have said that they were not 100% until @two years after their injury. That said I like the Lions having two new competent veteran CBs. If they draft a CB, it allows them to develop him over the year if needed without throwing him into the fire like Okudah. You may be right but I've seen a couple articles that indicate he'll be ready by week 1. I'm sure Holmes did his homework and didn't spend 6 million on a guy that can't help them this year. And there's nothing keeping them from extending him if he works out well.Moseley signing doesn't add up for me primarily because its a one year contract. Takes 8 to 12 months to come back from an ACL tear. He was injured in October last year.
I think Jamaal comes back the way he spoke after the game, unless someone really throws money at him ( unlikely given FA class and deep draft ).
Alternatives …
FA - Monty/Harris or Sanders if they aren’t costing much more than a Jamaal return
Draft - Evans/Chase Brown/Corum/Charbonnet type ?
Highly doubt we are in for one of the very top draft options although have now seen a mock today with Bijan going to us at 18
I think he stays
Yeah that’s how I see it as well. It takes the pressure off but doesn’t remove the option. Most of these guys aren’t signed longterm. It very well could. It is kind of weird. Backs like Walter, Barry, and Emmitt were very effective into their 30's. Now nobody wants anything to do with a back who is 29.2 years younger as a running back, that's like 14 in human years.
Not too long ago, in 2018 in Miami, Frank Gore at age 35 averaged 4.6 ypc and had an 80.3 pff grade on about 10 carries per game. He had great vision between the tackles. Montgomery has a more patient style, but I'm slightly concerned that Herbert looked a little better behind the same line.It is kind of weird. John Cominsky: “I already told them, I told A.G., I’m ready to run through a brick wall for that organization and he said, 'Well, when you run through that brick wall I’m going to be right behind you.'"
I really like the Montgomery signing. He is similar to Jamaal Williams but younger and also is always among the league leaders in broken tackles. Seems like a perfect fit.

Watched highlights and Monty seems like a Williams clone but a little faster and better pass receiver.
Looks like Williams priced himself out of Detroit.
Luke warm on the AA signing. Good team guy but don`t think he would be coveted much by other teams.
I am almost certain this is Swift’s last year in Detroit. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Detroit spend a mid round pick on a pass catching back.seems like a lot for Montgomery compared to the market right now but time will tell. very clear they don't see Swift as the guy which is a bummer but he can still be impactful with limited touches.
what do you guys think about WR at 18? maybe the OSU kid or Quentin Johnson. I could see a fit. ETA: Hyatt from Tenb there maybe?
I’m deeply skeptical that they take a RB in the 1st after signing Monty.Montgomery is going to be the grinder and has a reputation of playing through injuries. The Lions need a homerun back. The signing of two competent veteran CBs gives them the option of going RB or QB in the first round depending on who's there at 6 and 18. Or RB in the second. Based on how Holmes aggressively went after Jameson Williams last year I can see the Lions looking at Bijan or Gibbs. Williams was evaluated by the Lions last year as a home run threat and difference maker.
If the Lions consider any of the RBs in the draft a player comparable to Jameson Williams I think they would make a movie.
I’m not sure that exists at the moment.I still expect them to sign a big bodied X WR before FA ends.

I’m sensing that you’re higher on one of these players above the rest but I can’t quite put my finger on itI’m not sure that exists at the moment.I still expect them to sign a big bodied X WR before FA ends.
