2025 Detroit Lions: 5-2 Hutch gets contract extension. (39 Viewers)

I just saw a scroll on NFL Network that says MRI confirms hyperextended knee and bone bruise for Sam LaPorta. I haven't seen or heard anything from the locals here.

MCDC said today he’s got an outside shot, Kalif may be a bit further out. Said they’ll know more in 48 hours “but the good news it it looks like days, not weeks.”
Well we know Honest Dan will want the opposing team to know every detail on whether they are playing or not.

He’s pretty straight about injuries

In Coach's presser where he addressed LaPorta he used the same "bad, but not as bad as it looked" on Raymond. Craig Reynolds and DPJ likely share returns Sunday, but if JAMO is a go, its quite the risk/reward proposition to have him handle some returns as LAR Evans has given up the 3rd most return yards this season.
I'm not seeing it unless he has practiced on the return teams, which is highly unlikely imo. In addition, his importance on offense just went way up.

Given his experience, I expect DPJ to return punts

Oh great Dallas on the road again.

Ugh, Rams. Got to think there’s a lot more pressure on Goff than Stafford. Goff is the jilted lover of the two and Lions are the higher seeding and expected to win. I expect Stafford to play loose and fizz bombs all over the place tbh. We are going to have to outshoot them, but also critically eat clock up by using our running game.

Is what it is. Bring it on !!
Lions pass defense has been getting carved up like a Thanksgiving turkey. It’s going to be great TV.
We are going to need the good Goff.

What do you mean, they held Jefferson to only 192 yards, a massive improvement over what Ceedee did to them.

Damn, will that maybe be 3 games in Dallas within a year? Next week looking likely too.

Lions should be better next year, but the path to 12 wins is a lot harder. Of course all the teams we expect to be good, will not be good. Always a few who disappoint.

Both GB and Chicago look to be building something. And now Cousins is saying he may come back to Minnesota. NFCN will definitely be tougher

Damn the Panthers. They’ve really accelerated Chicago’s improvement, the amount of first round talent they have and will accumulate is just crazy

Eh, they're the Bears so they'll probably find a way to screw it up. (Of course, their fans are probably saying the same thing about the Lions)

Green Bay has some great young talent and they have a good QB. Chicago's defense was much improved, and while they have some pieces, still more questions than answers and likely starting a rookie QB. Lions have a great foundation and $61M in cap space (10th most.)

NFC North should have some really good teams next year. We'll see how it plays out but I doubt anyone wins the division by 3 games next year.

GB has turned it around fast after dumping Adams and Rodgers.

They have and just wait until they beat Dallas next weekend :pickle:

So weeks ago, Mrs. Reilly (or Myrna for all you Confederacy of Dunces fans) booked a family vacation at the Flamingo Everglades Lodge for this weekend, all the way at the southern tip of Florida's mainland. Our 13-year-old has been using his phone obsessively ever since he got it, and she really wants this weekend to be about unplugging and enjoying nature. Which I'm totally on board with.

The problem is that the lodge has no TVs, the in-room wifi is by all accounts slow and not great for streaming, and as one glance at a map will tell you, there aren't many sports bars or other venues within an hour's drive. I'm fine with missing the rest of the games this weekend, but I'll be damned if I'm going to miss the first Lions home playoff game in 30 years.

It's looking like my options are some combination of a) pray I can stream on my laptop, b) listen on the radio, c) follow on the ESPN app or d) file for divorce by the end of the week on the grounds of sportsal estrangement

Looking for "rooting interest" TD Props for Sunday, most Lions returns are lower than what was observed most of the season, such as JAMO at only +310 and Brock Wright at only +430. However, DPJ is currently +850, which I have bet and also bet The Detroit D scoring a TD +600. I have also been searching for Skipper or Decker TD props, but nothing yet. Closest I've found, FanDuel has an any O-Lineman TD Prop for the weekend at +2200. The Lions have, at least, paved the road that they may give this a try and I could see MIA giving this a shot too, so I put a bit on this prop.

Of all those, DPJ +850 is probably my favorite. With LaPorta questionable at best, DPJ just might get on RedZone.

Pete Carroll out as Seattle coach. Moving into front office.

That’s good news. Winning coach who the Lions had lots of trouble beating.

Falcons are seeking permission to interview Ben Johnson
Tankathon has them drafting Bo Nix in the 2nd round. Not sure how much he wouldcbe excited by that. Right now they have some talent but not at QB.

I know Ben Johnson has a lot of interest and is viewed as a top Coordinator, but I think AG will end up being a better HC. I just think he’s a better leader of men who can command a room.

True, the best coordinators are not always the best HCs.

The thing is, because BJ is the proverbial hottest girl in the bar this year, he can pretty much pick his spot. Which could mean he walks into a better situation than Glenn

Sam LaPorta (knee) is listed as no practice on the injury report, but he did work on the side as well as individual work after practice.

There may be a small small opportunity that we get Ben Johnson back now. Couple of months ago he was one of the top 2 in vogue choices for an opening, but there are more heavyweight names on the open market than expected. Bellichick, Vrabel, Harbaugh, even Carroll possibly. Dan Quinn is a strong choice that has been touted as well. If BJ is faced with being offered a less well set up HC gig than he may have had in November, he might just choose to stand pat for another year. Its a small chance, particularly if the Falcons is a job he get asked to do, but it is a chance that probably didn’t at all exist a short while ago.

NFL squashes local watch parties. The NFL is worried about a local theatre having a party for 2-300 people?

NOVI, Mich. – Emagine Theatres was forced to cancel the Detroit Lions-Los Angeles Rams playoff viewing party at the request of the National Football League.

The Lions and Rams will kick off this Sunday (Jan. 14) inside Ford Field at 8 p.m. But, viewers will have to watch it at their local establishments or in the comfort of their homes as the NFL has prohibited Emagine Theaters from hosting its planned viewing party at their locations.

MCDC presser
  • LaPorta will run around today, he’s gotten better every day, they’ll know more after practice & then see how he feels in the morning
  • Jacobs is hurt, no transactions until tomorrow
  • Houston looks better but Coach didn’t indicate one way or another if/when he’ll play

Lions placed two players on the AP All-Pro first-team: RT Penei Sewell and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. C Frank Ragnow, TE Sam LaPorta and ST Jalen Reeves-Maybin were second-team.

Lions had two All Pro players in 2017 & 2013. Not sure I remember a time we had 5 among the 1st/2nd team.

Right now watching the Belichick talking with Nick Saban documentary on ESPN.

Saban said it was rare when the front office of an NFL team would contact him directly to discuss one of his players prior to the draft. He mentioned that he would be surprised when an NFL team would draft one of his players who he thought wasn’t good enough for the NFL. He wondered how they could pick that player.

Saban said if contacted he’d discuss the pros and the issues for the player. He said that Belichick was one of the few who would contact him.

Saban said that the combine has become a show now and that everything in college football is becoming commercialized.

I found this information surprising as I would think contacting a player’s coach would be a fundamental step in evaluating a player prior to the draft.

I don't have the links right now, but I definitely remember Brad Holmes mentioning Saban giving good reviews on the 3 Alabama players the Lions drafted the last couple of years.

I don't understand that. Why would the NFL care?

Because if sports were countries, the NFL would be China.

Just did a Google News search and no one seems to have an explanation. So yeah, the most likely explanation is that Goodell didn't feel like he was getting his beak wet
