2025 Detroit Lions: 5-2 Lions beat Bucs with 4th string secondary. (35 Viewers)

Lions were the best team in the NFL last year. I have no doubt about it. The D just got brutalized with injuries. Eagles don't win if they had the same level of injuries either.

I disagree teams that turns the ball over five times in a playoff game rarely wins and you guys act like there wasn't a handful of of other teams that weren't 15 -2 and 14 and 3 in the league.
The playoff game plays out very differently if the Lions weren't missing a dozen defensive players

You don't know that and you don't know if they beat an Eagles team that was dominant. You just want to believe that.
We do know the game would have played out different if Hutch, McNeil, Carlton Davis were playing. Doesn’t mean a guarantee the Lions won but the game would have looked different. And of course I don’t know the Lions beat the Eagles either. It’s obviously all my opinion. I mean we don’t now for sure that the 2024 Eagles could have beat the Titans. They didn’t play, maybe the Titans would have had their number. We don’t know.

Yeah, but they didn't play because one team was didn't make the postseason, so there is no scenario where the Titans beat the Eagles, or the Lions or the Commanders or the Chiefs. It is very disingenuous to even use that as an example. Injuries happen and we don't know if that game plays out differently, Buffalo ran up and down on the Lions and at the start of the game they were only missing Hutch, the Lions turned it over five times against the Texans and only won because the Texans had a horrible offense.

Why do Lion fans do this? If anyone disagrees with the organization at all then your rebuttal the worst possible situation will happen.

Can't manipulate the salary cap or we will become the Saints, except dozens of teams do it that aren't the Saints.

Can't trade our picks or we will be the Browns, except the Rams and 49ers have done it and here they are still in the superbowl mix.

Can't take players that aren't boyscouts or we will become the Raiders, except the Eagles and Chiefs do it and win super bowls.

Can't sign any big free agents or we will be the Jets and lose our players, but other teams let good players walk and replace them and still compete.

The Lions have a great front office, if they are so awesome you should trust them to take swings on free agents and suspect guys and if it doesn't work they will figure it out.

The Eagles drafted Jalen Reagor over Justin Jefferson, then they said opps and drafted Smith and traded for Brown, the Chiefs told Tyreek to find a trade when he wanted too much money, the Rams didn't have a first round pick for like six years, won a super bowl had a down year and now are back, the 49ers traded three firsts for a qb that never started an entire season for them and they still went to two superbowls, the Broncos traded a ton for Russell Wilson and now they are back in the mix.

I didn’t say playoffs, just meant head to head. If the Falcons could beat the Eagles why not the Titans? Anything can happen in a single game. The best team can beat the worst team. A team can turn the ball over 5 times and still win. I have my opinion. Obviously it’s subjective and there is no way to prove any hypothetical NFL scenario out.

Current line of -10.5 and total of 49.5 suggests something around a 30-20 win for the Lions. It "should" be an easy Lions win but a couple specific matchups are not favorable. Decker may miss the game or be less than 100%, going against Trey Henderson on the blind side. Aldo Chase and Tee vs a banged up CB group. I don't think either will be enough for Cinci to win but it could keep the game closer than I would prefer.

I agree with this, I know the Bengals have looked very bad, but even bad teams don't play poorly every week in the NFL. This feels like an pretty easy win, but not embarrassing like the Bengals have been the last two weeks.

I don't accept criticism well of this organization because I absolutely love what they are doing and 100 percent support the culture and the vision they have for the team. I love our entire offense. I love most of our defense. Our special teams play is great. I love how they are coached. I love their aggressiveness and toughness. If my child came home with a 98 on his test, I am not going to scold him or even question them for not doing enough. Brad Holmes has done more than enough to earn the trust of fans. This team is absolutely good enough to win Super Bowls.

The Raiders season is falling apart yet again. I’ve always rooted for the Lions as my “2nd team” but it’s time for me to follow them more closely to really enjoy the ride this year. I do have Goff on one of my superflex dynasty rosters, so there’s that. ;)
Thanks for having me over. Your place looks great.
Um…😢

GO LIONS!!!

Love what this team is doing. Exact opposite of the last 2+ decades of the Raiders experience. Both fan bases have tons of misery over the past few decades, so I’m glad your team is on a consistently positive trajectory.

Light it up today against a team the lions should demolish.

Eagles did not look like the beat team in football today.

Okay, the Lions looked like one of the worst teams in football week one. None of these teams are machines. No one is going undefeated, the team that wins the the superbowl is going to be the healthiest and most complete team at the end of the year. I think depth is going to play a huge role in that and I don't like ours.

At no point did I feel nervous. Even when Chase started running rampant. It’s such a weird feeling to now possess. When they responded by grinding up the entire field as a reply it was like this is now the norm and I expected it. Years ago I would have been having kittens.

They need to sort out Jamo though. 8 odd targets last week, yes 2 drops but the rest wasn’t on him, felt like they should have got him right today and they didn’t even attempt to. One target, one carry ? No redzone looks which he was getting last year ?

Weird one

I never felt nervous, but was very thankful Joe Burrow was not playing.

One thing I am nervous about is the secondary getting depleted with injuries again.

Not being negative, but what we thought was a tough schedule really hasn't been.

They lost to GB
They beat an average Chicago team
Beat what looks to be a horrible Baltimore team. Though I'll still say it was a good win on the road on Monday night.
Beat an average Browns team
Beat a team that looks lost without Burrow.
Now they get KC on a short week.

Very well could be 5-1 before hosting Tampa and then the bye.

Think the Tampa game will be tough along with @ Wash, @ Philly and @ LAR.
Obviously the Turkey Day game vs GB is huge.

The good news is, they appear to be as good as any team in the NFC and even Buffalo looked vulnerable last night.

In the NFL every team is vulnerable week to week. Philly and Buffalo lose, also injuries impact teams week to week.

NFL is a tough league to win week in and week out.

What team does like their depth? If a guy is good enough to be a good starter in the NFL, he is going to want to be paid like a good starter. And the salary cap does not allow for backups to be paid starting salaries. You can't have a team with all-pros starting, then have quality starters behind them on the bench. There is not enough money in a cap to allow for that. We have very high quality players at every level of the defense. Any team in the NFL is going to be hurting if they lose key players. You are putting obscene expectations on the Lions to be able to cover every possivle scenario of injuries.

The Lions were betting favorites to win the Super Bowl last season for the first time in franchise history. They currently only trail the Bills and Eagles. I am ecstatic with just how damn good this team is.

We know, you love them like your kids. You already told us.

When we have a parade for being the best odds to win a super bowl let me know and I will be there.

I am not talking about depth throughout every position, but just like most Lions fans just assume the absolute worst or craziest most hyperbolic possibility.

No disrespect intended but Arnold has only proved to be a very average CB so far. It is a loss only because he knows the system.

I would say it is a loss because he needs more reps and still can get better, but I think you are being very generous to say average. I think he has been below average all season.
That is correct, according to PFF Arnold is in the bottom tier of CBs ratings per game.

Coming out of college the rap on Arnold was he is too grabby and handsy. They let them play like that in the SEC for the most part. Arnold has a bad habit of grabbing the WRs jersey right away. Needs to practice with mitten's on.

Think Vildor is available?
I think players like Vildor were why the Lions signed experienced corners for depth. In the past, the backup corners were players with little to no experience. Now we have players like Rock Ya-Sin, Avonte Maddox, and the recently signed Tre Flowers. Obviously they are backups for a reason but they all have been multi-year starters in this league, so if nothing else the moment won't be too big for them.

PFF is a good indicator, but rarely tells the whole story. Terrion has been progressing nicely. Chase was shut down before before Terrion left the game. He frustrates the heck out of opppsing receivers. The Lions are second in the NFL sacks, and a good part of that is sticky man to man coverage. The penalties stick out like a sore thumb, but he also broke up several passes and had an interception taken away from him by Kirby. He is a valuable piece and will be a very solid CB.

I treat them like I am an actual fan. You continually crap on them because this new regime didn't win a Super Bowl in their first four years after taking over the most pathetic team in the entire league and don't follow your short-sighted peanut-gallery advise. If you don't appreciate the incredible turn around and the extremely high-quality of football they are now playing week after week, I am not sure what to tell you. Yes, I am a huge fan of what they have accomplished so far and know this is just the start.

Not sure how many times this needed to be stated. You can absolutely be an "actual fan", enjoy the ride and still be critical of your team.
Personally, I have mentioned numerous times how great Brad and DC have done at turning this team around.
That doesn't mean I have to agree with everything they do or don't do.

I've also said BUILDING a team and winning a Super Bowl are two different things.
There are teams who are content just being really good and those who want to win a ring.
I want my Lions to win a ring. Right now they seem content just being really good.

This thread lately has been either you're 100% behind Brad and all his moves or you're not a fan. That's ridiculous.

For truly good teams, the schedule is never as hard as it appears. Most NFL teams don't end up as good as their hype.
Kind of like the Lions last year. None of their wins seem as impressive in retrospect in part because the teams looked so bad in losing to the Lions (Minnesota being the prime example). Also, they lost to Buffalo and didn't get a chance to play Philly. But ultimately you can only beat the teams that are in front of you, and as long as they keep doing that things should turn out OK.

So what does the CB room look like for the next few weeks? Amik and Rock on the perimeter, Maddox in the slot? I seem to recall Branch playing in the slot a bunch as a rookie; would they go back to that? The worry when you start moving too many pieces around is that you're forcing the D to play left-handed.

My semi-informed opinion is that those guys should be able to hold up OK, but the lack of depth, especially with Rakestraw and Dorsey already out, is very concerning.

Early line is KC -1.5, just 2 points lower from last night's game vs Jaguars. Of course KC is going from the road to home but it does look a little odd.

I don't know if last night's result makes me worried because there's no way Mahomes lets his team fall to 2-4 or not worried because KC is a bad enough team that they could easily be 2-4

I hope they don't move Branch. It seemed like last year when he had to move was when he stopped getting picks (where are they this year? ).

I would go get somebody, but I am not Brad.

I mean, they obviouslly have to get somebody, but no idea if that means whoever is on the FA market or an actual trade. I don't typically love those midseason trades; feels like they rarely work out (though I suppose ZSmith was a good one last year)

After second opinion, Terrion Arnold is now expected to return from shoulder injury

Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has received some good news on his shoulder injury.

While it was initially thought that Arnold could be out for the season, multiple reports note that a second opinion revealed Arnold’s shoulder injury is not as bad as initially feared.

Arnold is now expected to return this season, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter noting that he could return as soon as later in October.

Head coach Dan Campbell had said on Monday that Arnold would be out for “a long time” before the cornerback received a second opinion.

The No. 24 pick of the 2024 draft, Arnold has recorded four passes defensed in five games so far this season. As a rookie, he tallied 10 passes defensed, a fumble recovery, and 60 total tackles.

In back-to-back weeks:
Cleveland moved on from Joe Flacco after his performance vs. Detroit
Cincinnati traded for Joe Flacco after Browning struggled again for 3 quarters vs. the Lions.

That is reaching. Both quarterbacks were awful the entire time.

If they had made this trade a week ago the Lions might have beaten Flacco two weeks in a row. But now he has a chance to repeat his only win this year vs the Packers.

Starting safety Brian Branch was limited in practice and is getting an MRI on his ankle. The other starting safety, Kerby Joseph (knee) did not practice for the second straight day. He missed 2 days last week, had a limited practice last week and still played so hopefully he will again this week. Number 3 safety Avonte Maddox (hamstring) was limited in practice today. Starting cornerback Terrion Arnold is not expected to.play and the other starting cornerback D.J. Reed is on IR.
