2025 Detroit Lions: 7-4 Giants HC beats Giants..Thank you! (72 Viewers)

Hope BobbyLayne is alright. Know he had a slight health thing a year or so back. I’ve actually just gone down my friends list on Facebook to try find him but I’m tired and couldn’t see it ( stupidly cant remember his name because it is obviously different !! ). I’ll try look again tomorrow when I’ve more got my wits about me.

The Rams are the example I use when I suggested the Lions trade for Trey. If Holmes is as good as you think he is, he has the ability to replace key players they may not be able to sign due to Trey through the draft. Right? Can we agree the Lions chances of winning a Super Bowl increase with Trey opposite Hutch?
The last thing I'm doing is risking losing pro bowl caliber players AND at the same time high draft picks for a player that MIGHT make a difference. If we did not have a bunch of great players coming up for contract extensions it would be a lot different, not to mention several big contract extensions already signed, almost $1 billion worth so far, all signed in the last 2 years. None of those other teams you mentioned had this circumstance, not even close.

Also, had they traded for a player who has a big contract, you are probably losing 2 of Gibbs, Campbell, LaPorta, and Branch and you're asking Holmes to replace two pro bowl caliber players AND taking high picks away at the same time. You build around your young core; you don't draft them to lose them. All you do is shorten the window and there are no guarantees you win a super bowl.
The Rams did it. Gave up two 1st rounders for Stafford. Won a Super Bowl.
Lost Ramsey. Lost Darnold. Lost Miller.
And here in 2025 the Rams are 7-2 and also have their share of young star players to resign.

Let me ask you this. What's the better scenario for winning a Super Bowl.
Current situation or don't pay Jamo and give up pick 32 for Trey and pay him for two years?
The Rams lost 3 players in their 30's while the Lions have 4 players all 25 and under. The Rams were also an older team and didn't have a bunch of young Pro Bowl caliber players coming up for contract extensions. If the Lions had the Rams' situation, I would pay to trade for an edge. Also, trading for a QB is way different than trading for any other position. If the Lions were a QB away from a legit chance to win a Super Bowl I would do what the Rams did.

I don't think edge is a big enough weakness to trade a high pick for, especially given Taylor Decker's health. I would not be surprised if he retires and that would be as high a priority as you can get. If I thought we were desperate then it might be different.

Football is a violent game and doesn't care about age. See Frank Ragnow. When your window is open you go for it because players leave, get hurt and are never the same, some of them regress., sometimes you can't rebuild the same chemistry. Dan Campbell said it after the NFCC game loss. It is really difficult to get here and we may never get back here. Thinking we have a couple more years of this and then as guys approach 30 we will really go all in is a bad strategy.

When you take that approach and hold on to long going for it then you turn a retool into a 5 to 10 year rebuild.

I DMd him and he just wrote back today. He's fine. Just got a little busy with other stuff and a little burned out on this site (especially the bickering in this thread) and decided he had better things to do. Said he doesn't see himself coming back. Which is a total bummer, but obviously he doesn't owe us anything

Thanks for the update. It's too bad because he was an excellent poster here. But I do understand where he's coming from.

Lions predictably the underdog on the road vs the defending champs. The line has been anywhere from +1.5 to +3 currently at +2.5, total is set at 46.5. Weather should not be too much of a factor, in the high 40s at kickoff with clear skies. I'll update with final injury updates nearer to game time.

I think a shootout favors the Lions, and a low scoring game favors the Eagles with Hurts running ability. Hoping for a 38 - 31 final.

Lions couldn't handle the Vikings pressure up the middle and Gibbs' blocking was inadequate. Lions now have to handle Jalen Carter. Would expect to see more Montgomery in this game as he is usually the better blocker.
Also Glasgow can be overpowered.

Looking forward to this game thought we were headed to these two teams deciding the NFC last year.

Campbell not being given his due yet as an innovative offensive minded coach.

Glad he's ok. Unfortunate that he views the conversations as "bickering". We all want the same thing. We just happen to all have different opinions on how to get there.
No right or wrong answers.

This is going to be a tough game. Night game on the road. Outdoors. Usually a vicious atmosphere.
Good thing is the Lions appear to be fairly healthy. Looking forward to it.

I think Defensive pressure by the Eagles is the key. Adding Jalean Phillips and BG and Nolan coming back, made a huge difference last week. If they can get pressure with a 4-man rush and hold Jah/Monty in check, they can win. Otherwise, I see about 3 different paths to a W for Detroit.

Really geeked for this game! We were robbed of this matchup last year, and this should be a good one.

Won't speak for Bobby, but for me the issue is the same people having the same debate over and over. Between that and not having Bobby's in-depth updates, I find myself visiting this thread less and less, which is a bummer because, assuming very few of us were around to cheer on the actual Booby Layne in '57, this is pretty much the best time to be a Lions fan in any of our lifetimes and it would be neat to be able to share that moment with others

I see this being similar to the GB game. Low scoring and a TO decides it. Also a hook and ladder involving Skipper 😄
At some point in the Dan Campbell Era, we've got to have a play where he throws it, right? I'm thinking line him up at FB and have him throw a pop pass (aka, the Dontari Pope play, though I see from that replay that Poe actually took the wildcat snap)

I want to see Sewell catch a touchdown. Probably not this season with the offensive line issues we are having, but he needs one someday.

I admit to being one of those who like to discuss scenarios, but I don't see the harm in it. It's a discussion board.
I'm enjoying the ride just like everyone else. I just happen to want the team to do whatever it takes to win a ring while I'm still alive.
Some may see that as "bickering", but to me, it's all part of being a passionate fan.

I'm glad he is ok. Think we were all a bit worried.

I don't think it's the problem of any one poster or any specific post -- and to be honest, even if it were, I've so tuned out those discussions that I'm not qualified to say who would be at fault. What I would say is that sometimes, the cumulative effect of a few different posters arguing can be to dominate the discussion with a topic that most of us are uninterested in.

My advice to everyone is to be aware of this dynamic and take a second before you post to ask yourself if your post is contributing anything new or just rehashing the same topic (a good strategy for posting anything online; another good one is, if you feel the need to write an angry response, go take a walk around the block and then reassess if you really need to write it). No post exists in a vaccuum; everything in this thread contributes, in some small way, to the overall tone.

Again, this isn't directed at anyone in particular, and I certainly have no intention of becoming a thread cop. I suspect more and more of us will just vote with our feet

Speaking of Bobby, one thing I really miss about him is that he was perhaps the only person here even nerdier than me on the subject of Lions uniform choices. I noticed they went with white-silver on Sunday, which IIRC is the first time they've rocked that combo since a 2023 win against the Bucs. I really don't think we can rule out superstition as a factor in their decisions about what to wear. They haven't worn the white-blue combo since a road loss to Baltimore in '23, and the blue-silver combo since the Tampa loss last year. So it's possible that the 2-2 record in the Marshmallows this year factored into the decision to switch it up. I wonder if they'll stick with W/S against Philly on Sunday, and also if the Minnesota loss will cause them to abandon the Blueberries for the next home game vs NYG

Sam LaPorta missed practice for the 2nd straight day and the Lions other TE, Brock Wright, is also battling an injury, missing Wednesday's practice and was limited in Thursday's practice. Lions signed TE Anthony Firkser to the practice squad. There is concern but it's hard to say it's just from LaPorta or because both of their top 2 TEs are hurt.

Penei Sewell and Aiden Hutchinson both returned to practice. Kerby Joseph has not practiced this week, nor has Terrion Arnold, who is still in concussion protocol.

To me you've handled yourself very well. I took a time out for myself from this board. You stayed with it.

I like the line about the Lions' secondary being the "Legion of Whom". Hadn't heard that one.

Nice to know Rodriguez will be back on Sunday. As for the others, I'll wait until the final injury report to know how much to worry
I'm mainly worried about Robertson because he practiced Wednesday then was limited Thursday and it's with a hamstring. Those are really tricky.

Secondary ailing + AJ Brown whining = potential trouble. This will be a great test for the Lion’s in a tough environment.
It's going to be rough if our top 3 corners and Joseph are all out. The offense has to step up and I think they can.

This is not like in years past where once a stater goes down we put Vildor out there. The guys coming off the bench have been making plays. We have not been giving up 180 to 220 yards to every good WR we face. Fortunately our LBs and DLs are in pretty good shape. If the offense is clicking, we will just need a few stops and maybe a turnover out of the defense.

Laporta out, Arnold not looking good. I don't like this. Lions really need this game to have a realistic shot at home field in the NFC.

This is the game we all deserved back in late January. I can't remember a regular season game I've been looking forward to more than this one. Probably 2023 Eagles - Niners. Hopefully it doesn't end the same lol. Can't wait! Go Birds!

Terrion Arnold was ruled out. Amik Robertson practiced in full today and said he expects to play.

I wanted to like and be sad at this post at the same time, but didn’t know how.
We held Tampa to 9 points without the same players in the secondary and also without Branch that game. The Eagles offense has not been all that good either. It's going to be a tough game and it will be won or lost at the line of scrimmage.

I am not the least bit worried about this level of injuries. The Lions team focused on their depth and is much improved in that area over last season. Little known guys and even some of the practice squad rookies, the Lions are comfortable with starting. Their defense is far healthier and playing much better than last year. This team is not missing any pieces and is quite capable of winning it all as is. The OL may have some growing to do and they may have to adjust their play calling, but they are a better team right now than the Eagles. But playing in Philly is always a challenge.

Agree, but the Bucs were banged up too. No Godwin, no McMillian, Evans played like a half, Egbuka, was Playing hurt and limited. Bucky and multiple offensive lineman were out.

So obviously no SLP, Kerby and TA really sucks, but I was encouraged to see that all the IR guys except Paschal are questionable (Davenport, Reed, Rodriguez). I’d be shocked if all of them played, but hopefully a couple of them can get on the field (we could really use DJ) and also a good sign going forward

Campbell pretty much said Reed and Davenport won't play. Rodriguez is almost certain to play and I haven't heard much about Paschal.

I'm really hoping the Lions can gut out a win. They need to run the ball effectively to win and they need their stars on defense to play like stars.

EDIT: Paschal was ruled out.

Hey, Lions faithful, what is the projected starting Oline this week? I heard rumors Kayode was gonna start over Rattledge.
Kayode Awosika is starting for the injured left guard Christian Mahogany, as he did last week. Ratledge is still starting at right guard. The line is the same as last week
Thanks! I thought I heard Mahogany was back, but Kayode was gonna start over Tate.

Mahogany will be back sometime around Christmas. Decker and Sewell both missed practice Friday. I expect Sewell to play, but Decker is going to probably 50/50 every game for the rest of the season.

Lions need to bring that same energy the Pistons backups have brought the last couple days. The same energy the Lions secondary brought that Monday Night against Tampa. Bring it to Philly.

The Detroit Lions announced a series of roster moves ahead of their Week 11 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, including placing starting tight end Sam LaPorta on injured reserve, signing interior offensive lineman Michael Niese to the active roster, as well as elevating wide receivers Tom Kennedy and Jackson Meeks. Additionally, they also revealed that they have released defensive lineman Pat O’Connor from injured reserve with an injury settlement.

I have to admit that the injury news is not good. It would be a solid win if they could come out on the good side of this game.

This is the best Detroit Defense we have seen in over a decade. With Dan calling the offense, this is the best team in the NFC.

Total Defense: 7th in the league, allowing 294.0 yards per game.
Sacks: 4th in the league with 30 sacks.
Points Allowed: 11th in opposing points per game (21.5).
Passing Defense: 16th
Rushing Defense: Currently ranked 5th in the league, allowing 87.7 yards per game after a recent improvement.
Turnover Differential: 4th in the NFL with a +6 turnover differential.
Opponent 3rd Down Conversion: Ranks 1st in the league with a 32.49% conversion rate.
Opponent Red Zone Scoring: Ranks 12th with a 54.24% touchdown percentage.

Can't be too stunned about losing to the Eagles, especially the way their D played.
Lions D held their own, despite Philly having a lot of short fields. and missing so many of their DBs.
Goff couldn't get any rhythm, and I'm sure every Detroit sportscaster thinks they'd coach better than Dan after tonight.
Injuries hurt, though Campbell won't use them as an excuse.

Really need to win the next 3 (NYG, GB, DAL) or else things start to look shaky.

The offensive line was terrible. Missed assignments combined with the Eagles defense made it impossible to get into a rhythm. That's where the game was lost.

The play calling was not good enough either. The 2 straight runs into the middle of the line on 3rd and 4th down was bad. With the exception of the terrible fake punt, I didn't have a problem going for it on 4th down. I didn't have a problem with any of them. It's more about execution to me. The 4th and goal from the 4, I'm going for it all day long. Brock Wright was wide open and Goff was rushed and missed him. Poor execution.

Not having LaPorta was really noticeable. But you can't make excuses. Goff didn't play well but it's hard to play when someone is in your face all game long. It's easy to blame Campbell for going for it. It's easy to blame Goff. Obviously that contributed to the issues on offense but everything starts and ends up front. They were really bad.

Lions out gained the Eagles but decisively lost the time of possession. Ragnow retirement has been significant as teams continue to pressure Goff up the middle.
Expect more of the same from other teams who have the personnel to bring it like the Vikes did.

Close game played on the Eagles home field. Making a few of those 4th downs would have been nice. But Eagles said not today.

Jamo continues to be 25% knucklehead.

I am worried about the game coming up against the Giants. They aren't very good, but they play tough, and have a really good defensive line. Plus remember last year when teams had the Lions hangover and went like 3 and 16 after playing the Lions? I think the Eagles might have done that to the Lions.

The Rams, Seahawks, Bucs, Lions and Packers are all going to regret not going after Phillips, especially if the Eagles can fix their offense a little and just be average.
