2025 Golden Globe Awards (1 Viewer)

Just a reminder! Red carpet special!

This would be a perfect time for me to use the "smile" reaction button that we now longer have. It's not a "like" nor a "laugh." Just a smile.

Anyway, kinda interested in this because I'm curious where the awards season will go. It seems more wide open than usual. But I'm not interested enough to watch this instead of the Lions-Vikings game.

Rooting for all things Shogun tonight

Wasn't Shogun big in the eighties?

As Killer MIke would say, It's like Tyson in the eighties, dude snap and punch your lights out. Not like Tyson in the nineties if he's losing bite your ear off.

Have a rooting interest for Anora.

Any personal connection or personal connection to the producer's side of things? I remember you had been involved in a project or two.

Enterprise I work for includes a few entertainment companies, including the U.S. distributor of this film. We’ve been involved with the last five Palme d’Or winners. I’m not personally involved in that business though.

Well, here's where I take my sort of jokey thread and leave it to the people genuinely interested in it.

As always, the promos brought a wry smile to my face.

I do like how it makes me realize things existed that I did not know existed. Like, I have a Netflix account and love Wallace and Gromit, but had no idea there was a new Wallace and Gromit movie streaming on Netflix until I was looking at the list of nominees.

Watching Shogun win a bunch of awards is probably about as unexciting as watching Sam Darnold's majestic coach turn back into a pumpkin mobile against the Lions tonight, so you all have that going for you. You didn't miss much.

Although watching stand-up bits by Seth Rogen (I assume it's not Joe Rogan) does sound uniquely like getting your . . . eh, never mind that analogy.

I never thought I’d hear the phrase “knuckles deep” multiple times on an award show.

I literally had no idea it was on last night - I’m losing any grip I had on pop culture.

Same and I used to be a guy who bet on award shows. I've fallen off with keeping up with movies. Still active with music and some tv but the need for me to see a movie when it comes out just isn't there partly due to the lack of quality and ability to stream on demand. I'm finally checking off my 2023 list. Zone of Interest was great now preparing myself for 3+ hours of Flower Moon and The Holdovers.

What are the must sees from 2024?

I thoroughly enjoyed A Complete Unknown (Bob Dylan biopic). Sitting with my Dad after the movie while the credits rolled is one of my all time memories. Hoping they diversify and Chalamet gets the Oscar. Really great performance.
That one is high on my watch list. Hoping I can get to a theatre soon to watch it, or may have to wait until streaming. In addition to loving all things Dylan, a good chunk of the movie was filmed in Cape May, NJ, which I absolutely love and have been multiple times. I follow a number of the Cape May places on social media and was fun to follow along with the filming a bit vicariously.

I know its been discussed before but is there a good explanation for The Substance being in the Musical / Comedy category? The Bear has cleaned up in that category for years and I've assumed its just a strategic decision the producers make but honestly don't know. I'd think there would be some control or guidelines on that. I didn't watch the show last night but have seen several of the nominees and intend to see the Substance but its been described to me as a horror movie.

I would describe it as horror/black comedy/dark satire. I think it makes sense in that category. The Bear I disagree with however. That show is like 90% drama.

Nikki Glaser is pretty good at this hosting thing.

She's definitely had quite the glow up over the past few years and yes she knocked that opening monologue out of the park. Easily my favorite female comedian. Runs circles around Amy Schumer, Whitney Cummings, etc. Here's the monologue if you missed it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9HTM9JBBO4
Saw her in concert in 2023 here in Eugene, great show. Don't go with your parents or kids.

The God shout out bit was really funny. And true.

Mrs and I tried to sit down and watch Shogun, we fell asleep every time
Didn't make it past the 2nd episode
Not sure why

-Golden Globes...yeah
One of the witches from Wicked was on the worst dressed list and rightfully so, just hideous from top to bottom.
The other witch I have no respect for and think she is a lousy pop singer and have felt that way for a very long time
Could not have been two worse people cast in that movie IMHO, saw the Broadway show, no interest in the movie

I do like Jeff Daniels' taste in women ☺️

I watched 2 episodes last night and thought it was excellent. Looking forward to episode 3 tonight. I enjoy political intrigue and maneuvering,

A bit sad that Anora came away empty. By far my favorite movie of the year. I hope The Oscars get it right. Mildly surprised by Conclave winning screenplay. It was great up to a point and then loses it's way. Demi Moore another surprise. She's solid but you could argue she was the worst of the nominees. Overdue for recognition I guess. The Brutalist sweeping Actor, Director and Picture has to bode well for it's chances at the AA but the director's 2nd speech did him no favors IMO. With the big prize still to come probably not a good idea to lecture a swath of the industry.

On another note: For some reason I thought MoP Jr and his wife might enjoy the GGs and told him to enjoy a glass of champagne and don't think hard
They loved the show last night, said it was better than the Oscars and they're on a mission to watch Shogun
Maybe I'll join them and give it another run on the DVR

Is it that you don’t like her pop songs, or that you don’t think she is talented as a singer? I ask because I think her voice and stylistic range is incredible and since she’s singing an already written Broadway score, I would think she would be just fine. Of course, I’m saying that as someone who has not seen the film and is not a regular consumer of Grande’s pop music.

That was hilarious and something I never thought about. Pretty much the opposite of a Texans post game after a win.

I don't like her voice, look, attitude, most of her fan base, the entire genre is pretty terrible.
She's not anyone I would want to spend a dollar on
Others I'm sure think she's grande

I finished the series. It does slow way down in the last 5 episodes. It started so promising. I think they should have done this in 8 episodes instead of 10.

Try "Day of the Jackal" on Peacock, it's pretty good

Have a rooting interest for Anora.
Wifey and I watched this last night, and neither of us got it. With the awards this weekend looks like it's the front runner so perhaps we both missed something.

I have no skin in the game so hope it wins due to your ties, but I found the plot surfacy and repetitive. Eye candy was the savior.

I’d say give it a second shot later if it didn’t click the first time. For me, the great thing about this movie is that it doesn’t deliver its themes in a straightforward way. You’re not being spoon-fed ideas. It’s more about the process of revealing them, and it does that in an incredibly entertaining and engaging way. And on top of that the whole cast is fantastic.
