Okay going into the draft I figured Packers would use first couple of picks on the defensive front.
Kenny Clark was a shell of himself last year, was abysmal as a run stopper, and played way too many snaps. At this point in his career his snaps should be drastically reduced to keep him fresh, with a focus of being on the field on passing downs, and rotated on obvious run downs. DeVonte Wyatt was also a very bad run defender.
Lukas Van Ness has been an utter bust. Horrible as a rusher and he was supposed to at the very least be able to set the edge on run downs. That hasn’t worked out at all.
The Packers decided not to address this issue in free agency. The weakest part of this team by far.
First pick spent on a receiver who “may” have run a 4.29 40 but does not play at sub 4.3 speed. And then they decide to go with an OL despite spending a first on Jordan Morgan last year. And the fact that the O Line is pretty solid as Zach Tom is the likely player who will need to be re-signed. Total head scratcher. Then they take another speedy receiver with questionable hands and production in the 3rd. Make it make sense.

Looking for this one, glad to see it pop up.
Agree the defensive front is sub par. For all the high end draft capital spent here there's very little to show for it. A pass rush is pretty much non existent. Really hoped this would be addressed in FA and the first 3 rounds of the draft and was disappointed it didn't happen.
Corner was another area of need and injury rumors or not Wiil Johnson would have made me giddy, or any others in the next tier. Particularly i would have liked Shavon Revel in the second if Will Johnson scared them off.
I don't hate the Golden pick. It's an area of need and I think he can turn into a WR1 with a little luck. A gadget/return guy in the third i didn't like and adding OL depth in the second with their needs on D was a mystery pick to me.
Add to the fact that it certainly doesn't sound like Alexander is coming back and i can't understand totally punting on D with the first 3 picks.
Picking up Isaiah Simmons seems like a good move. Kick the tires and see what's there. Wasn't that long ago he was a top 10 pick and sometimes a change in scenery can jumpstart a stagnant career. Can't see any downside.

All that said, this offense looks pretty good on paper and outside of catastrophic injury they should be able to keep up with anyone in a shoot out. They want to run the ball too, which i love and Jacobs is a total stud. Getting Lloyd back healthy hopefully adds a dynamic change of pace guy to the mix aswell. Defense is a work in progress, but the offense has the potential to be as good as any in the league.

Any thoughts on Musgrave this year? Pretty high pick at 42 overall in 2023 and we've yet to see him do much of anything yet due to injury.
Also that receiver room is getting pretty crowded, we've had to have seen the last of Watson in a packers jersey?

It is obvious Musgrave has talent but he really had some horrible drops last year coupled with mental mistakes. If he can stay healthy I wouldn’t be surprised if has a nice season as a receiver. Hasn’t really progressed as a blocker though.
I feel like Watson is a slow healer so wouldn’t be surprised if he misses entire season. He assuredly won’t be back in 2026.

After many decades of following this team I don't have any expectations from the rookies to make any impact at all. The first few picks only make sense when you consider the rookie contracts that are expiring in the next two years. I'm looking at the guys from 2022 and 2023 to step up. The two first round defenders from Georgia ('22), LVN, Musgrave, Reed and Wicks from '23 and Jordan Morgan from last year. None of these guys has earned a second contract yet but all still have great potential.
Overall I think the team (sadly) took a step back last season and that has to be corrected or it's time for new coaches and management. Mark Murphy is retiring this summer. We can expect Ed Policy to continue with the same approach and culture since he's been with the team for so long, but no one should be surprised if he decides to bring in his own people next year if the team doesn't improve.

I think Golden can step in and make a difference this year. How big is the question to me. With his speed he can take the top off the defensive like Watson did when healthy. The offense needs that and wasn't as good without the threat imo.
I agree with the guys you mentioned from the 22 and 23 classes. This is the year they'll need to step up. Walker is decent, but lacks awareness. Wyatt feels rotational at best. Van Ness is just big, doesn't offer much else from what we've seen. Wicks can be pretty good, but the most important part of the position is catching the ball, doesn't matter if you're always open if you drop it. Reed is solid. Musgrave is a mystery with all the injuries. Get two or more to take a step forward and they're on to something.
They were definitely stagnant last year compared to the year before, maybe it was regression, but i think they just maintained and didn't necessarily get worse (Love's injury issues hampered him a good part of the season). There's too much talent and high draft capital on D to be as average as they are. I don't have high hopes for improvement here unless they can generate a pass rush. If they take a step back this year and miss the playoffs changes might be inevitable like you say. On paper this team should be a contender. If Alexander stays with the team, is motivated and healthy I see that as a bonus that I'm not counting on, but would be a solid upgrade to the D.

Packers picked up Devonte Wyatt's 5th year option. Still waiting on Walker.

Per Rob Demovsky Packers are not picking up Walker's 5th year option. He's an ok LB, but I'm not seeing a ton of upside unless his football IQ improves a lot this year. I'd like to see him this year before deciding on anything, but maybe they've seen enough to want to keep him long term
