2025 Miami Dolphins - Minkah is coming back to South Florida (2 Viewers)

Brooks is a Jeff Wilson type at 6-1, 235, powerback if you want to look at it that way.
Would lover to keep him, Gaskin is still pedestrian to me, let him go.

Mostert-Achane-Wilson-Brooks-Ahmed and the last 1 or 2 might have to be on the practice squad and subject to be being plucked any time.

Keep Mostert, Wilson, Achane, and Chris Brooks. Brooks has good athleticism for a big guy, and would be our power back. He would likely be plucked by another team, while it's less likely for Ahmed or Gaskins who have a higher salary, is that right? We'd could save over $2 mil in salary cap, which could be rolled over, if both Ahmed and Gaskin are cut - they're both JAGs who occasionally have big plays.

Jonathan Taylor rumors swirling again but I don't see it happening.
no real path for it to happen. All the hype is from his agent who is a Dolphins fan
I don't see it either as the bell cow back doesn't seem to fit the coaches mindset and you aren't giving up picks and paying Taylor if he isn't going to get 60-70% of the snaps. That said it makes more sense then overpaying an older Dalvin Cooks which they seemed to be in on and you can never discount the fact our owner likes to make some noise. The real questions are is Taylor really healthy and just milking it because of the dispute with ownership and what would it take to get done? Would a 3rd round pick and send them back Mostert work?

Elijah Higgins has looked good. Some YAC, which Gesicki never showed, and football intelligence coming back to the ball. Lots of competition at TE behind Smythe, who is the only sure TE to make the team, per the position coach. Even UDFA Julian Hill looked good last week.

I think barry posted if you get taylor you have to wave bye bye to Wilkins...Can't get both nder the cap...
In that case I'm keeping Wilkins.
Wilkins has been everything you'd want him to be... on and off the field. I'm a huge fan

I think Gaskin goes and Brooks goes to the PS.
I'd cut Gaskin and Ahmed. Brooks has more size and power and is cheaper. I think he'd be scooped up off the PS. He's look good 2 weeks in a row.

I wouldn't be surprised if he picks up a little something and ends up/gets stashed away on the Short term IR. Would you?

Rumor mill on fire this afternoon

-Trade is a done deal, the extension is the part being worked out right now.
-I'm kind of shocked if this actually happens, Miami is not a power running team so I don't see the immediate uptick for JT, certainly he's better than anyone we have right now and would cause complete chaos for opposing defenses, sounds good in theory, wouldn't mind Tua throwing a little less. If Miami does get a lead, be nice to run the football and some clock. It would be advantageous to have a running game in case of road playoff games in colder weather than may are used to in South Florida.

Lot of smoke this afternoon, only a matter of time before Schefter makes the big announcement be it the Phins or some other team.
Miami has watched Zeke and Cook sign with division rivals, it would be something if they upgrade to a Top 3-5 at the position.

IMHO, Miami's shot is dependent on Tua taking as little punishment as possible. What looked to me, months ago, as one of the most stable QB rooms in the League, is now suspect due to White's reportedly poor off-season.

The AFC is stacked. No contender can afford a misstep.

JT would go a long way towards keeping defenses honest, and the dogs off Tua, for sure.

So if its going to happen I would think today or tomorrow are the days. I believe the 53 man roster gets set on Tuesday correct? Not that you couldn't do it after that but I would think both teams would want it done by then.

I don't agree with trade from a cap POV. And the loss of cheap drafted players. But it could happen. If Miami keeps Achane, I assume Mostert might might be traded to IND.

>>Jonathan Taylor update: Talks continue and, as expected, this will go down to the wire. One tidbit: I believe there to be a second team involved beyond the Dolphins, which would certainly change the dynamics.<<

Have not read this thread the last few days but did we all play the guessing game yet on the other team that seems to be involved?

The team that actually makes the most sense to me is Washington but I've heard zero on their involvement. On the other hand a team that he makes far less sense, that historically does not commit a ton of draft capital or money to RB's and still has what I view as a high quality deep RB room has shown interest. That team is the Eagles. I don't know if their interest was just kicking tires or serious enough to be labeled the "other team".

Conclusion for me is I got no idea who the other team might be.

I'd just add this. I told anyone who would listen that concerns over Barkely and Jacobs were unfounded. They'd report, etc, etc. Thought a chance they might show up so late they were limited first week or two were the only issues. This one is different. I am 100% for taking the gamble on JT and entered several leagues last week mainly in hopes of getting him at a nice discount. But unlike the other two he's super risky to me because if he's not traded I think things get ugly for the Colts, JT and his fantasy owners.

What's everyone's gut on who will be the #2 QB? I drafted Hill and Waddell and want to pick that guy up. I assumed it would be White but am reading that Skyler is still in the mix.

I expect grier and company to settle:solve two issues in the next 2 days: JT and Wilkins. Wilkins is asking for crazy money and while he is an elite DT, he isn't a sack producing DT, so this likely gets solved by incentives or it doesn't and then I have no idea what happens (Getting Seiler with a home discount may mean the phins move on from Wilkins and try to extract some value to offset the JT move Dolphins need a True Nose Guard for some of Fangio's sets so it may be interesting)

JT continues to be a luxury, but I think Miami may cave a little here...

Colts to league. He’s super duper valuable and we want a first.
Colts to JT. You’ are good but not that valuable to us so we’re not giving you a fat deal.

Grier has a history that he sticks to his price. Wouldnt be surprised either way if there is a second team or if the second team is fabricated to raise the stakes.

Hard to say. Thompson has a better command of the offense but crapped the bed on Saturday. I think he would get the first shot if Tua went down, but he'd have a short leash.

If Miami misses the playoffs in 2023, Grier is gone and the rebuild will begin with almost no draft capital. Grier dug himself a big hole by not hitting on any of his three 1st round draft picks in 2020. Compare that to what the Jets have done, they missed on Wilson, but hit on others. And Rodgers and Dalvin didn't cost any draft capital, unlike Tyreek and Ramsey and Chubb.

I think the Dolphins keep both on the 53.

Trade talks for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor have continued and are expected to go down to the wire by the deadline on Tuesday. In addition to the Miami Dolphins, ESPN's Stephen Holder believes there's a second team involved, which could certainly change the dynamics. Final roster decisions are due on Tuesday, so if the Colts don't trade Taylor, it's possible they keep him on the Physically Unable to Perform list if he chooses not to report to the team. Also coming off offseason surgery on his ankle, Taylor's fantasy stock has fallen considerably and his current ADP is now at 19.7 overall. A trade to the Dolphins would be best for his fantasy value, but a trade before Tuesday isn't guaranteed because of Indy's high asking price.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller

Put this in the holy sh!t category.

The Dolphins averaged 165.7 rushing yards in the preseason, and 5.65 yards per carry. That ranks Miami third best in the NFL, and is 53.7 yards more than the preseason average for all 32 teams.

When you're playing against future Hy-Vee baggers and car salesman, I'm not sure how much value to put on that.

Miami worked on the run game a lot this preseason and I think MM wants to run the ball a ton. Not sure how this dovetails into the RB interests they have vs what they have on the roster, but I expect a more "fancy" rushing attack from Miami this year

Same, I definitely expect more commitment

Maybe they should offer Tyler Herro and a 2042 1st round pick.

I hate that teams are doing this
-We won't pay you, seek a trade
-Now we want top dollar or top draft picks even though we won't pay you

It sure feels like there is an invisible ceiling that nobody wants to talk about

So what are you saying/?
JT would improve that number or we don't need him?

It's not this group's fault that Lillard wants to wear a Heat jersey,
And not to mention this is the SP/NFL chat and you're speaking NBA'knees, might as well be speaking Greek
-Just summon me when Lillard is traded to Miaimi, it's inevitable

I think tyler and Jovic are now off the table. You can have Mario Chalmers and the Ghost of Glen rice.

Interesting stats and hope that the off season rhetoric about commitment to the run comes true.

JT if healthy is an upgrade for sure… fits the speed metric and played with ingold at Wisconsin.
At 24 should have plenty of yards left in him. only concern is price tag.

This is what @Marcel_LJ had to say about where things stand with Christian Wilkins’ contract:

“It’s no big secret that Wilkins has an offer on the table from the Dolphins and I’m almost confident enough to call it a final offer from Miami. The ballpark is right in line with what the other DL have been paid. It’s not Ed Oliver money, it’s right in line with Jeffery Simmons and Dexter Lawerence. I think it’s a situation where his (Wilkins) team wants to set the market.”

For reference, Simmons’ contract was 4 years $94M and Lawerence’s contract was 4 years $90M

What would a team be willing to trade for Wilkins?
Maybe he's not as important in Fangio's defense as everyone might think.
He's a very talented DT, but it all has to fit under a certain umbrella.

Setting the market is something like 4yr/$100M+ and that's going to be too rich for the Phins...but the cap rises to over $256M next year, $287M year after that.
Can't go into the season with him just sitting on the sidelines.

Per Barry Jackson
Dan Feeney was traded for a 6th Rd pick to the Bears
$3.1 M guaranteed and was not in rotation for any of the starting spots so they shipped him out.
$2M signing bonus back on March 16th, that is a dead cap hit, not a lot of savings on this one

Think he was a free agent signing in the off season

With cap issues in 2024, we need some 6th and 7th rounders to succeed. Like Jason Sanders in 2018. Gaskin in 2019. Blake Ferguson in 2020. Skylar in 2022. And it looks like TE Elijah Higgins in 2023. Sanders was 1st team all-pro in 2020.
