2025 Miami Dolphins - Minkah is coming back to South Florida (18 Viewers)

OT Patrick Paul had a very good game, caveat, versus 2nd stringers on defense. He played most of the game. He may be able to fill in for the inevitable few games Armstead will miss.

The IOL is a worry if Aaron Brewer has a hand fracture as Omar Kelly is suggesting - the team is coy about injuries. Driscoll filled in at C, so he has played C, G, and T in the NFL. No snap issues, he might be better than Liam. Checkout his PFF grade in 2021 when he started 9 games, mostly at G, and had a 70.1 PFF grade. Wynn is STILL recovering from the quadriceps injury suffered in mid-season last year. Kion Smith, a swing T who just started getting reps at G, went out with a knee injury early. I think they bring in another vet at G/C.

The Grayson Murphy knee injury could be serious.

Watched some clips this morning (missed the game last night). Definitely looks like he has been working on his technique.

LT - Lamm...back up
LG - Lester Cotton...thought he was 3rd string but watched him on the first drive
C - Liam Eichenberg...and I guess Brewer is injured already
RG - Robert Jones
RT - Austin Jackson

-Armstead not playing, I understand we want to preserve him for the 12-13 games we can get from him
-Brewer is injured
-LG Wynn is on the PUP
-Jones and Jackson are going to be your starting right side of the line

And now we turn to Tua who went 6 for 6 on his only drive with over half his OL being back ups
Moestert actually got 5 carries in this game, only gained 7 yards, that OL did not run block all that well early in the game vs front line defenders.
Tua also was without his 2 biggest weapons at WR, Hill and Waddle didn't suit up and yet he finds River Cracraft on a beautiful TD pass into the back of the end zone

Tua looked agile, Tua looked spry, Tua looked mobile and flicked a pass into the flat with a DL all over him and he just took a step and tossed it right by him
I thought Tua looked terrific and his body language was pretty much all swag in a very positive way
Tua is criminally undervalued in FF so lets keep that one to ourselves around here
I am concerned about the OL, especially run blocking but also worried they will let Tua down

-BTW, all this negative back up QB talk, did anyone see Sky when he was scrambling?
The football hit Braxton Berrios in the hands and chest in the end zone, he should have caught it. Might have made media idiots a little more aware of what he can do.
Get rid of Mike White and pounce on any veteran OL that will be cut or released here soon as the season gets ready to start.

Tua looked terrific...period
:banned:

Chop Chop, Fast Fast
Kamara is a QB assassin
Phillips is cleared to play
Ogbah and Calais Campbell are in the mix
and Bradley Chubb sits on the PUP and will be there for a while longer, rumors that Miami was involved in the Judah trade last week...sounds like Chubb won't be back soon.

-Knowing Grier like we do, he's not done shopping if he had Miami involved in the Judah trade discussions.

Tua looked terrific...period
My biggest takeaway as well. He needs to stay healthy. Other takeaways:

Driscoll gives us depth on the oline, no snap issues last week at C, and made some good run blocks this week, some say he's better than Liam. 2nd rounder Paul overset, gave up a bad sack, he needs the work but has been decent.

Chop was bad setting the edge on run plays, but showed speed on the sack. He plays in passing situations to start. Kamara could be better early in his career, he has a better arsenal of moves.

Cracraft looks like our best option at 3rd WR, but could be injured to start the season. OBJ says he'll be ready, I think he will and is trying to avoid injury. Malik has been up and down, I think 7th rounder Taj who was placed on injured reserve is better.

What happened to River?
I saw Long get injured, walked off under his own power, hope he is ready for the season opener
What happened to Cam Smith? I meant to post that I liked his PD on the fly pattern he was covering near the end zone but he also gave up some YAC w/poor tackling.

@Ministry of Pain the Dolphins under McDaniel are coy to an extreme about injuries. We should find out more later today. Speculation about Brooks is the collarbone, with Cracraft the knee, and Cam the hamstring. Hopefully Cracraft is OK, he's been our best 3rd WR the last 2 years, but has been injury prone. If OBJ plays game 1, we should be OK with WR depth. Ezukanma again flashed on a couple of plays, he's more of a contested catch guy than a separation guy. The TEs and RBs will be more involved on the passing game.

Thank you for teeing me up on my next topic

-Achane is Miami's WR3 in RB(sheep's) clothing...the thought of Hill, Waddle, Achane lined up wide or inside or wherever with Wright in the HB spot and Smith lined up as FB/TE
I can think of a million ways to exploit that and I don't have the training of a Mike McDaniel so I'm sure he can double that number I just ripped off.

I believe Marino could throw for 6,000 in this offense, Tua looked as confident as I've ever seen him, his diet/work out regimen is Top Shelf right now
This is the best offense I've seen in decades, I would say Marino had superior OL but if the one we have now is more focused on pass protection, so be it!

This is a double digit win team, even the younger talent is starting to establish themselves, actual draft picks, not just trade for Hill and Ramsey
I like what I see and I understand preseason is meaningless

McDaniel is starting to settle in as a head coach, still needs a surrounding cast especially on the defensive side but this team is all his now.
BTW: Pouring the most resources on Defense into Edge rushers and Edge setters plus DBs is just smart IMHO

I am prepared to regrade Grier depending on how this all unfolds and I think he is playing with a deep stack now.
If anyone doesn't know, the guy is a savvy/avid poker player I'm told. It shows in a lot of his moves
I'm still forming my opinion but I was ready to let him go a couple seasons ago, and his resume is riddled with bad moves but all would be forgiven with a deep Playoff run.
Is 2024 the year? 40 years since Miami won the AFC

Can we let all 22 starters and the best back ups rest next week?
I don't need to see Tua, a starting OL, anyone of value on the Defensive side, nobody needs to play for their roster life next week

-And can we get a str8 answer on OBJ? i have my doubts right now, honestly I do.
I don't need to see him in a uniform and I'm starting to believe I won't
Will Fuller 2.0?

But everyone else, even Sanders needs the night off.
Let's get this 2024 season off to the races.
Jacksonville is a potential Playoff team and I don't think Dougie P survives if they don't
Jags will play their best ball vs the Phins, will be a great test at home to open the season, Buffalo comes in 4 days later
Still think Miami opens the season strong

Teair Tart...you might think on a team with DL thirst minus Wilkins, Tart stood a good chance of being in the rotation

Mike McDaniel has a terrific explanation and even if Tart was not in great shape, he landed quickly with the LA Chargers...
"Just one of those situations where you can see that it's, from a scheme standpoint, it's not totally a fit," McDaniel said. "And when you know that you have a veteran player that has ambitions, that maybe as a coach and staff we can see it might not fit, we try to be proactive with that so he has the opportunity in the next place to do what we know he wants to do."

-That is why guys around the league want a chance to play here, Coach MM doesn't bad mouth the guy, basically says he can't make the final cut, let him go peacefully.
I like the way he handled this, didn't know it happened until I started catching up on news. I never liked the Tart signing anyways.
5-man fronts at times last night, was difficult to see what the make up was but I saw 5 DBs a lot on the field

Weaver looks pretty good so far.

Edge

Phillips
Chop - 1st round rookie
Ogbah
Kamara - 5th round rookie
Chubb - PUP
Quinton Bell? Not a slam dunk to make it despite looking good early in camp

WR

Hill
Waddle
Malik Washington...Shoe In and could be valuable if he can return kicks
River Crafcraft...love the guy but can never stay healthy, looks like he might start the season on Injured Reserve, not sure how many games that covers
Braxton Berrios...they should cut him and use Malik as a returner
OBJ, seriously? We gotta carry this guy?
Ezukanma , still waiting for this 3rd year WR to show up and make a splash

6 of that 7 on the list they keep? I would think Cracraft won't count until they activate him later in the season

Isaiah Wynn - has not practiced in almost a full year since he was injured Week 7 last year vs Philadelphia - PUP Out 1st 4 weeks
Bradley Chubb - No surprise here as he also starts the season on the PUP and will miss at least 4 weeks/4 games
OBJ - Status unclear but hasn't practiced since he signed his deal
McDaniel said there's no way he goes from 1 practice and then starts playing on Sundays, might be some time before we see him suit up for a Dolphins game.

Interesting 53 man roster. Only 4 WR's with OBJ on the PUP, Cracraft short term IR. Achane splitting out ? Guessing Brooks gets picked up by someone looking for RB depth, not sure I wouldn't have kept him over Wilson but I saw that he might be dealing with concussion issues.

Storm Duck made the team!
-Anthony Walker might get moved to the PUP or I/R still, that would free up a roster spot
Miami released their Long Snapper, we currently don't have one, Ferguson since 2020
Nick Needham looked good in the preseason and they cut him, must be a lot of talent in that Secondary
Jaylen Wright is currently 4th on the depth charts at RB

Miami has an opening for a WR from the waiver wire with a legit shot at getting playing time. Who knows how long OBJ will be out. Malik might surprise, but I think they might get a WR who can separate. Jonnu can also split out.

So I've been away on vacation and just catching up on the news today of the Tua signing and disappointed to not find a @Ministry of Pain rant yet...lol

My thoughts, outside of getting him to play out this final year happily and see where we are at, which was never going to happen, I think they did a pretty decent job on this deal from what I've read. Others got more money (Love) and years (Lawrence), they lower the cap number this year and hopefully use that to resign some other young guys. We have an out after 2026, he was obviously always going to be the QB this year and barring a collapse of epic proportion you were always bringing him back next year even if on the franchise tag while you worked out a deal so in reality you added one more year that you are locked into him with no out. From what I have read even if they don't restructure the last few years to bonuses his salary should still be 22% or below of the expected cap which is about what the QB market is. If he plays well and shows that he can take us on some playoff runs over the next 3 years that deal will get reworked to lower those numbers even more, if he doesn't then we cut bait and start over with a rookie QB contract in 2027. The one thing I would do right away is start accumulating some picks and over the next few seasons and drafts make moves that I had two picks in the first round a for 2027 to use an ammunition if needed.
Thank god we have an out in 2026.

Because we will end up using it IMO.

Fingers crossed @Ministry of Pain and I are totally wrong on him not being a true franchise, Super Bowl caliber QB.

I am excited to see our team again….I have high hopes for our defense this season.

Fins Up!!!

OBJ was DOA. Obviously it was a low risk 1 year deal…..but he is washed.

In other news, the Miami Dolphins extended Mike McDaniel thru 2028
I have been wanting to start a McDaniel thread since he was hired, in hindsight it was a mistake not doing it
Feels a little late but I have some grievances and as I sometimes say, you all don't deserve all the wraith, let some of the SP folks take some of the punches

-Good for him, no Playoff wins, didn't really need to be extended, should have made him earn it this year like you did players such as Christian Wilkins who would still be here if you hadn't taken him all the way out to a 5th year option. Then we could discuss Robert Hunt who should have been done on the 37th Month between Years 3 and 4, Tua as well, you screwed us by having him play Year 4 when you could have had him $35M-$40M per year(I posted about it and was laughed at) at the time, now we pay $52.5M, brilliant

How can Miami afford all this?
I would have rather heard they extended Holland but i guess that will wait until he's a free agent?

Miami lost on Hunt -2nd Rd and Wilkins -1st round and yet they extended Howard all those times as the season started, just giving him more money so that he was the highest paid DB
Seems like foolish money

🤷‍♂️

Extend and restructure players….kick the can down the road

Calais Campbell was put in cuffs along with Tyreek Hill
Police officer has been put on Administrative Leave

The whole thing is mind boggling at the entrance to the stadium where this took place

A gift - lucky to get the W.

Jags could have been up 24-7 with 2 minutes left in the 3rd before the Etienne fumble.

Defense bailed them out in the 2nd half.

Offense needs to get their act together for the Bills Thursday night.

How were Achane's touches, similar to last year? Is Wright still considered the right handcuff with Wilson active?

Fingers crossed @Ministry of Pain and I are totally wrong on him not being a true franchise, Super Bowl caliber QB.

Big win today and he sure is accurate in warm weather, but I’m inclined to agree with both you and MoP. And I’m not being a Jets party pooper; it’s genuinely the way I think about Tua. But really, having a QB that delivers playoffs and success is nothing to sneeze at. The Jets have been without one since the late ‘80s with Favre, Fitzmagic, and Sanchez thrown in there as successful for a total of four years.

Big win today. Should emphasize that a bit. I thought you were cooked when Etienne was running in for the score. I still thought things were perilous when Sanders missed the field goal. Defense tightened for you guys.

I've never been so underwhelmed with a season opening win at home
I do think Jax is a better team than they've been given credit for.

-Jeff Wilson led the team in rushing yds...read that again
Wilson 26 yds, Achane 24, Mostert just 6 carries for 9 yds, Ingold had 8 yds
Achane 7/76 and both WRs managed 100+ yds, that long TD by Hill was mostly ALL Hill
Tua missed him wide open in the 1st Q, Tua looked weak in the 1st Half, nothing of substance and those horrible behind the LOS throws that McDaniel keeps dialing up

This offense did not look good, Tua on pace to get sacked 50 times this season, that seems like a lot.
No push by the OL, they didn't pass protect all that well, Tua 23 of 37 is actually not a very accurate day by his standards
Still managed 338/TD but most of it was short passes turned into bigger gains. Hill-Waddle-Achane was where he threw most of them

20-17, wins are always better than losses
See what happens on a short week with the Bills coming Thursday Night

I 💙 🧡 Calais Campbell for pulling over and immediately seeing Tyreek Hill laid out flat being cuffed and what he said was "excessive force"
I know he's like a 30-yr vet but that's exactly why I love him being here. Wanted to make sure Hill knew he was not alone and the cops cuffed Calais as well

-I'm only speaking about what Hill said "Thankfully I'm Tyreek Hill" and he's obviously speaking about an issue we really cannot go deep on in the Shark Pool, I'm going to leave it right there.
FTR: The officer involved or who initiated the stop has been put on administrative leave, one of the fasted responses I've seen in some time, they did this before Miami won the game.

-I also would like to applaud Mike McDaniel for winning the ****ing football game despite having to deal with this nonsense prior to kick off.
I want to dissect and pick apart the play calling and the performances but you're obtuse to not acknowledge the incident and the incredible response from MM and the coaching staff
How did that defense shut them out in the 2nd Half?

Holland - A Pro Bowl level Safety knocks the ball out on a Jags' TD in the 3rd Q that would have extended the lead to 24-7 and made it very difficult to come back from
Next play Tua floats one out to the left side on a long 20-25 yd out that Hill gets 1 step on 2 defenders as he was double covered and it's 10 out the Gate 80 yd TOUCHDOWN!!!
Pro Bowl Safety creates game saving turnover and the next play Miami uses it's ALL PRO Wide Receiver to cut the lead to 3 and then it was GAME ON!!!

I 💙 🧡 Calais Campbell for showing great leadership and heroism by standing tall in a moment many wilt under
That's a guy I want to go into battle with on Sundays, please stay healthy CC, we need you!

One of the things I always loved about Steve Spurrier is how often he would take a big shot after a turnover. Great play call there.

It has now been reported on the Dan LeBatard Show that Tyreek Hill after being handcuffed behind his back after being laid out flat on his stomach, face down on the asphalt, that after they cuffed Hill that he was struck or hit by at least 1 of the officers there on duty.
That is being reported by "Roy" on the DLS if you watch the show and know who he is

-It just gets sadder for me as more details unfold
There were so many videos, cameras and people around that most of what unfolded was all recorded so the police never had a chance to get ahead of this story and try to cover it up
They can't because the public has already seen the video and I believe that is what prompted the police chief to suspend or put the officer involved on Admin Leave

Trying to just keep up with the actual facts and football so please don't salt n pepper this up.
I'm grateful Hill was mentally and physically still ready to go

I'm shocked this all happened right outside the Hard Rock Stadium

A lot of adversity (and distractions) going into the game. Not easy to deal with as a coach and the rest of the team. They did well considering everything going on and like you said, the Jags are a solid team. Jags will be tough this year.

Week 1 win, much better than a loss. Everyone needed to step up and I think better things to come. So many teams/offenses in week one absolutely crapped the bed. Lots to still improve on but Tua had 300+ yards passing when the avg for the week was like 180.

We just need to keep our weapons healthy (Hill, Waddle, Achane etc). All were banged up in the game and Achane was limping at the end. Hope all is well. Better offensive days ahead.

Yeah it is not a good situation. I won't comment on it as we all know how terrible these can be if something goes wrong and it seemed to be going that route.

I will make a point about what you said earlier - a number of vets came to his side to help and show support. Something the team can rally around and hopefully bring them closer together.

Achane and Mostert missed practice today, doesn't surprise me
Jaylen Wright told a beat writer he expects both to play. Which makes sense to me. This is probably the most important game of the regular season, they have to beat Buffalo, its an all hands on deck game. Lose this, and it may decide the division, and we know Miami doesn't wanna go on the road in the playoffs.

OL Rankings on PFF

Armstead 3rd of 67
Jackson 9th of 67

Eichenberg 7th of 67, that was a big surprise
Brewer 7th of 32
Robert Jones 56th of 67

4 out of the 5 ranked pretty high this week, bookend Tackle spots right now, that allows Tua to lead the league in completions over 20 yds, he had 4 of them on Sunday
