2025 Miami Dolphins - Minkah is coming back to South Florida (45 Viewers)

3rd rd pick & Hunter Long.
That seems dirt cheap

3rd Rd pick? We get him locked and loaded for 2 full years with X lined up opposite him, Fangio calling the defense, Grier's not playing games right now
I hate Chris Grier from a Draft stand point but I admire that he is aware of that and just trades the picks to get what he wants.
LG and RT, what is the plan? Get that ironed out Grier!
Its a great move by Miami. Again, Ramey (much like X) are likely a little north of their prime but healthy they can definitely ball and can certainly battle the WRs in the AFC East. So, I guess Miami's next mission is a RT and some linebackers and a safety.

You can argue that you always would like the "cheaper" up and coming CB, but other than the guys at the top of the draft it usually takes a year or 2 before corners become "trustworthy"
We still have #51 to groom a young DB, wouldn't mind Deonte Banks, think it's Maryland.
Lot of Edge guys likely to be on the board at that time and let's not forget Tight End.

What was Hunter Long doing while he was here? To get anything or add him into a trade, good for Miami.

Once again Grier just going all in.

Guaranteed salary for the next 2 yrs - just please don’t extend him.

Now get us a MLB.
Let's restructure Jerome Baker first and I would also like to see what Channing Tindall does after a few Fangio camps, he was a 3rd Rd pick that felt like a steal at the time, did nothing his rookie year but maybe the former DC ignored him and didn't develop him properly.

Something will happen at LB, someone gets cut from another team, maybe the Draft something falls in our lap. Would not overspend at that position.
Yes teams are going to look at Miami and figure out we want them to throw the ball, but how many teams are built to truly run the football continuously?
Miami has a chance with Holland-Ramsey-Howard to create a turnover on almost any throw, I expect short fields for Tua and company.

The writing is on the wall that it is 2023 or bust. All these guys we have restructured plus ramsey plus Tua being guaranteed means that if we crap the bed in 2023 then it will be a tear down. If we get close then 2024 is "run it back". 2025 and 2026 is gonna be interesting bc all of this is going to come due but as long as the cap keeps going up Miami can ride the wave.

Their salary cap. i always like looking at next year to see who might be gone by then. Like to look at that dead money/cap savings.

I smiled when I noticed that if they cut Wddle (I know they are not), they would save $23

QB-Tua Tagovailoa: You can hear everyone collectively take a deep breath at once but we really need to discuss this and I'm prepared to lay out a plan that makes sense and hopefully will not ruin the relationship with Tua. 1st of all, you have to know both Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert are likely going to get lengthy high dollar per year extensions almost at the stroke of midnight on their 1st day eligible to sign. Tua was taken in the same draft class one spot ahead of Herbert at No 5.

-Tua was practically breaking records at times in a Miami Dolphins uniform, he was being praised by media and NFL pundits all over the country and social media platforms everywhere. How many times did our friend @TripleThreat post up a link with a terrific breakdown of some amazing plays Miami was running with Tua-Tyreek-Waddle, it was the best thing we've seen since the Marks Bros and Dandy Dan. I say all that because many of you would have me believe that Miami can just ask Tua to take the field for $4M next season, that's what he is owed or left from his 4yr/$30M rookie deal. i want to make sure we have all this up for full perspective because sometimes things sound great in a vacuum but let's be honest about how amazing he looked at times this year. Go back to 8-3. You're asking him to play for $4m with no guarantees and he is going to watch both of those QB secure $250M each, that's going to start to enter the equation at some point. And what about Hurts in Philly? The market is going to be sky high,

-My only solution to please as many as possible is that Miami does press the 5th year Option which is about $25M-$30M and I think it's guaranteed. Tua is estimated to have a market value of almost $40M so you also have to show him what a deal would look like in the Spring of '24 if he can survive and play some concussion free football in 2023. The 5th year option disappears and he gets a contract more in line with the other 2 guys I mentioned. And if all that makes you squeamish than you better start thinking trade with somebody and making a run at Carr in Vegas. The Raiders damaged his market by benching him or telling him to stay home the last 2 weeks of the season...with everything Carr did in '21 keeping things together, there was Gruden and the Bama WR that killed someone in a DUI crash, it won't cost what some think to acquire him and he might be more flexible with starting a new contract then some think.

Skylar Thompson appears like a possible back up but I would not bank a lot on him becoming the starter here or being able to replace what Tua has done should he be called upon in.2023. I like Thompson but he isn't ready to start for the Miami Dolphins yet.

@SoBeDad
Think you are referring to some of this
;)

Devante Parker turned into Jalen Ramsey. Neat.
And let's discuss the Fangio aspect in all of this.
Wasn't he pretty good at having some of the best tandems at DB.
Howard and Ramsey must have gotten the seal of approval from him.
Any chance they move Howard now? I doubt it but the thought crossed my mind they could still become players on Draft Day if they want to move a guy or two and free up cap space.

When it comes to Linebackers, Miami needs a coverage LB, a guy that can cover the RBs and short routes just beyond the LOS.
Baker fails in that regard but I think he is just fine at stopping the run. They have not restructured his deal but it easily can be done.
I think Miami will sign a guy that might have some scratching their heads at first but likely fits into Fangio's system.
With the trade for Ramsey, i'm going to try to just enjoy the upcoming moves, once again Miami is off to the races.
Tyreek Hill last year, Ramsey this year, incredible amount of talent and upgrades they have brought in here.

How does Alexander Mattison at RB sound to this bunch?
expensive considering what McD has used in the position in the past.
He has a market value of a little over $2M right now, not saying he won't be offered a significant amount more but how much more?
Is he worth $4M a year as the potential lead RB?
I consider Ahmed fighting for a roster spot
I've heard Jeff Wilson is a shoe in to come back, mixed emotions.
We traded for him so yeah bring him back but his availability week to week is a concern.
We need 1-2 reliable RBs going into camp. I don't see it right now.

This leaves Dolphins with a second round pick (51) and a third round pick (84) in first two days of draft. The 77th pick dealt to Rams was New England third-rounder acquired for DeVante Parker... Long's departure leaves 2 TEs under contract (Smythe and Tanner Conner).

2023 Draft capital by team visualized

(if you blow up the bar chart each pick is represented)

Dolphins are 32nd
And the Lions have 2 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd, and a 3rd before Miami even has their first selection. Miami has been good at getting UDFA contributors in the secondary, Kahou (69.8 pff), Needham (Achilles in 2022, ouch), and McKinley (69 pff). But the lack of draft choices will hurt them in 2024 and beyond. A reminder that Miami DID have a 2023 1st rounder taken away due to owner Ross' arrogance and ignorance.

Speaking of the Lions, tankathon has them taking 4 defensive players with their first 5 picks, with TE Mayer at 1.18. Would you consider a qb (Levis) at 1.06? Or a trade up. Or Hooker later?

My bad: Miami has pick 2.20.

Show of hands, how many Phinsfans saw Ramsey coming?
Incredible start to the off season, better than anything you could have dreamed of
Mimosas are on me

This guy is looking for a trade when free agency starts at RB
Can you imagine? Very cap friendly deal in '23, he would likely want an extension upon the trade

We’re not taking a TE early lol but 4 defensive players + Steve Avila would be an awesome first two days. Personally I’d like 2 DL and 2 DB, our scheme doesn’t fit taking an off ball LB; we could get a Dorian Williams / Ventrell Miller type Day 3. We had 6 significant rookie contributors last year and I think that’s the floor - 6 of the 8 picks on D, + a ready to step in G and a blocking TE like Zach Kunitz / Josh Whyle in the 6th.

Who knows on QB? Holmes said “It’s a lot easier to get worse at quarterback than it is to get better. We have a quarterback, he went to the Pro bowl, we can win the division with Jared. For us to take a QB it would have to Jake sense.”

They’re on the cusp of taking the North and competing for a top seed. Is Goff the kind of guy who can win a Super Bowl. IDK, but that draft capital should be invested the D line or the outside Corners - they played the 4th most press man snaps last year, everything is predicated on getting pressure. We need multiple upgrades at DB as well as an Edge or a Kancey / Benton DI.

You take a QB the your-job-is-on-the-line clock starts ticking, and you just passed up a chance to make a good team better. If it turns out you only got a Mitch Trubisky or Daniel Jones, guess what - nobody gets to stick around to pick another QB. You best not miss.

The Lions win a couple more games, including the 31-27 loss to Miami, with a better D. And don't forget about Jameson. Hill & Waddle combined for 20 catches and almost 300 yards in that loss. The Lions are aiming for long-term success, while Miami has a 1, maybe 2-year window.

Paying a lot of money when you have Skylar on the roster
Mike White 2 yr deal to backup
heard he was the target yesterday at 1P.
This is one of the reasons our 1,000+ subscribers on OnlyFins tend to be pretty happy with paying us a measly three dollars. Join up and find out for yourselves.

there's a snapshot worth looking at.

Mike White 2 yr deal to backup
Let’s hope he and Skylar never take a regular season snap in 2023.
Yes, if Tua gets hurt, we're in trouble. I'm still high on Skylar as a decent backup and occasional filler. In the playoff game at BUF, there were several critical drops including the long pass to Waddle early in the game. We need to spend our limited FA $$ elsewhere, including safety and LB. The contract for White must have a low cap hit.

I get it. Mike white isn't that sexy, but he can throw the rock. Dolphins have to be "cheap": somewhere and with Tua on the rookie deal Skylar, White, and likely another QB (Whether a draft pick (doubltful) or an UDFA (likely)) will be on the roster fro training camp. If something happens to Tua during camp, the phins will likely mortgage the future for someone for this run (remember, we have all our "important" picks for 2024 and beyond)

I like Skylar too. Like I think he can be a high quality backup. And yeah we had a lead on Buffalo at the start of the 4th quarter.....with Skylar....with the drops.

But Tua.....this is it. This is the year he has to put all the injury noise behind him. If not we are starting over in 2024. In no way do I think any extension is coming until the conclusion of 2023 at the earliest. He has to play every game. Period. If he goes down again......we gotta move on. We just do.

Linebacker David Long is signing a two-year, $11M deal with the #Dolphins, per source.

Guessing this the first step in the LBer overhaul.

Goodbye Jerome Baker.
14th out of 81 rated Linebackers PFF
6th Rd pick. by Tennessee, played college ball at WVU
Started 21 games the last 2 seasons, 4 Interceptions, 11 Passes Defended or knocked down over the last 2 years, his specialty is coverage and rarely sacks the QB
Sounds like what we needed

Fangio like LBers that can cover. Long fits that - Baker does not.

This is just the prequel of the LB overhaul IMO - other than Tindell.. I can’t be the only Dolphins fan that last year noticed Baker & Robert’s couldn’t cover a RB, TE or running QB out of the backfield if their lives depended on it?

CB ✅
Backup QB ✅
ILB
OL
TE
RB
ILB just got a jolt in the arm
I just want to be clear, not down on the Long signing at all, just don't think Baker is horrible
I also want to be clear, I saw the same plays where Baker is going the opposite way of the guy he should be covering, his awareness in Madden is like under 50 vs passes.
But he is good vs the run and the stats would point to that. I don't want to send him packing yet.
$28.5Million guaranteed when he was extended
I do want to rework some of that base salary which last I checked was over $8M and he is a $12.5M cap hit in '23, would like him to convert.
