2025 Miami Dolphins - Minkah is coming back to South Florida (1 Viewer)

"Kohou's story is something out of a Hollywood script. The Texas A&M-Commerce standout made the leap from NCAA Division II to the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and worked his way onto the final 53-man roster, where he quickly enjoyed a spike in playing time in the regular season."

"Whatever Miami saw in Kohou was clearly prescient. The unlikely contributor quickly blossomed into a very reliable and productive slot corner for the Dolphins in his first season, finishing with the fourth-lowest targeted EPA (-10.1) among all slot corners when playing zone coverage. In all coverage scenarios, Kohou was remarkably effective, staying in the hip pocket of intended targets often enough to post a tight-window percentage near 28. He ends up so high on this list because of his overall targeted EPA (-25), which was the third-best mark of any defender in the league despite his accompanying ballhawk rate of just 9.8 percent."

-I guess we need to slot him in as a starting DB, Nickelback at worst. That pushes Needham down in playing time and also will prevent Cam Smith from getting on the field early in the year. I am hoping Smith learns the first 8-9 weeks and can contribute a lot in passing situations the 2nd Half of the season.

-Instead of the offense, I'm more excited about the Defense in '23, Fang, Edge/OLBs, Playmakers in the Secondary everywhere, upgrades inside at LB. Short fields for the offense is my prediction. And Miami might also take a few to the house on score on defense, special teams will be strong as well IMHO.

Edge spot is getting crowded already, found this fantasy trade idea but it's actually not a terrible idea and if it were offered I would pull the trigger for Miami.
Ogbah has a cap hit of like $17M and that's ridiculous when Wilkins is on his 5th year $10M salary, they've got to part ways with Ogbah somehow.

That pushes Needham down in playing time
Needham tore his achilles in mid Oct. I'm not sure we can expect him to be the Needham of old until the later half of the year.
Also by all accounts DB Trill Williams was lighting it up last year before his knee injury in the first preseason game.

talk of Ramsey playing lots of multiple and periodically moving inside to slot.

and yes MoB, I agree the excitement around the defense is real.

Christian Wilkins...it's going to be a problem.
If they were close in dollars I think Wilkins would be signed already.
I doubt he will take the field for his 5th year option.
I've been wrong before. not quite as often when it comes to Miami

3.5 sacks...Sieler had 3.5 sacks as well
100 Tackles for a DT is basically unheard of and that's what Wilkins did. So don't say he only had 3.5 sacks, he was all over the field, period.
Best DT I've seen in a Miami uniform since Tim Bowens and that includes the 2 or 3 years we had Suh

Looks like some in National media want to make sure they are on record. I expect more folks to get behind Miami as the season starts to unfold.
Tough start to the season and tough schedule down the stretch

I think this is the best Miami Dolphins team I have seen assembled since...
It's a mix of '83-'85 Offense and late 90s Defense with Thomas, Taylor, Surtain and Madison
So it's something MoP has never seen and that feels exciting

Both Wilkins and Sieler were top 4 in snaps, something like 84% for Wilkins. They both rank high in run stops behind the LOS. Wilkins will make ~10 mil this year, year 5. He's just short of pro-bowl status, cause the draft he was in, 2019, had some great DTS, like Bosa, Q Williams, D Lawrence, J Simmons. Not sure what'll happen, but we need him.

happened on a collision with Tyreek Hill
I was so excited about this Defense with him in there
That said, Cornerback is one Miami's deepest positions, they drafted Smith and also have Needham back, he's behind Kader KoWho that nobody has ever heard of outside of Miami.

Howard-Ramsey-Kohou-Needham-Smith and there's another couple guys coming off injuries, the Secondary as a whole was loaded up with playmakers
It would be tragic if they lose him for a significant amount of time.
Grabbing at his knee while on the ground is not a good sign

Nothing to say about Ramsey so far. Again, walked for a bit on it then sat down. They they grabbed the cart. Hopefully nothing but unlike last year Miami has a ton of Depth at the position.

Edit to add: and a D coordinator that isn't going to put the corners on an island all game.

Ramsey OUT 6-8 weeks minimum!!!
Some reports say the more likely scenario is around December
My God, what luck since Stephen Ross checked back in as owner of the team
They were like 8-3 and finished 9-9 with that loss up in Buffalo, let's keep it real
They've opted not to further upgrade the OL this off season.
Mad Geniuses running things over there
I'm surprised we didn't lose Hill as well.

Saw a snipit of a Barry Jackson article mentioning that TE Coach Embree has pulled EZE aside to give him pointers... but hasnt attended any TE meetings. Sherfield had a similar type roll last year as a blocking receiver.

"I’ll be back on that field stronger than ever… in due time!
This SO minor for God’s child!
I trust fully & know He got me! Im forever grateful to worship His name! I know my brothers gone hold it down until I’m back tho!"

-It's hard to feel much when he never played a game for the team he's on.
-Byron Jones was made the highest paid Cornerback at the time 3 years ago, and he was injured and couldn't stay on the field
Here we go again...

"End of season push"

-Sounds much more like December than October, terrific way to start the '23 campaign
-Flores was 19-15 his last 2 seasons and was fired after a complete rebuild the season prior to that...
-Coach M&M is 9-9 so far and laid an egg at midfield of the Playoffs last year late when Miami had a legit chance to win that football game
with Skyler Thompson, our 7th Rd QB under center

I was wondering why the Ramsey thing hasn't bothered me that much, and its because "WE DIDN'T HAVE HIM LAST YEAR EITHER". So, Miami loses its key player acquisition of the offseason, but not our best get. That is our D coordinator. The good news is instead of being caught flat footed here, Miami drafted a CB and has a bunch of guys who played well at the position coming back from injury as well. On top of that, if we are going to be a playoff team, having a guy like him come back for the playoff push will be a bonus.

I will say, this likely kills the Cook to Miami stuff. Phins are going to need the cap money they have in case the injury bug keeps biting.

It sucks, but its like missing the lottery by one number. You hadn't won anything yet anyway.

Even without Ramsey, the defensive backfield should be much better compared to last year: Jones and Needham back from injury, Cam Smith in the building, and Kohou you would think is improved in y2. Add in a full season of Chubb plus Fangio calling shots and it's still a defense good enough to make the playoffs IF the offense doesn't lose Tua and crater again.
With Ramsey, they had potential for a truly shut down defense that might carry them to the playoffs even if the offense struggles. That's no longer the case.

I don't know what the other 31 NFL Teams are reporting from their training camps but the Miami Dolphins 2023 training camp isn't exactly going well according to beat writers and those who sit in almost daily,,,what exactly does this mean or what am I referencing?

Flipper Anderson, Chosen Anderson, whatever his name is, just cut him already, cut him a check for his $152,000 in dead cap space and send him on his way
Hill-Waddle-Berrios-Cracraft-Cedric Wilson and maybe Ez-E although we aren't hearing good things about him either.
The 1st 2 WRs on the depth charts are light years ahead of the others, and I already figured Berrios and Cracraft are going to likely fill the 3rd and 4th spots, with the other 2 taking 2 and 4 DBs with them everywhere they go, rest of the field should be wide open.

Channing Tindall? I wanted to hear he was tearing up camp, not even close
Cam Smith? Rookie taken just outside the Top 50, star Cornerback goes down, he should have a clear path for reps and playing time...sounding more like he's not ready for primetime if you follow most of the daily camp reports.
Liam Eichenberg is losing his starting spot to Isaiah Wynn who is only 27 years old, former Georgia Bulldog.
Austin Jackson is still our current starting Right Tackle and several writers are pointing to guys that could be brought in

I thought Ogbah would do well with Fangio now the Head Coach, sorry DC...let's see what i can snip from recent camp reports
Defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah - "I initially felt and said Vic Fangio’s defense would benefit Ogbah the most, and must now admit I was completely wrong in that assessment. Couldn’t have been more wrong about anything regarding this team because Ogbah has looked like a fish out of water in his new role as a standup pass rusher. He’s had one solid day in nine practices, and seemingly lacks the fluidity to thrive as a standup outside linebacker. It will be interesting to see if the Dolphins allow Ogbah to put his hand in the dirt the rest of training camp. If I were General Manager Chris Grier, I’d be shopping Ogbah to a traditional 4-3 team searching for a starting defensive end."

-That sounds terrible and we owe Ogbah some money, $17M cap hit, $21M in Dead Money if they parted ways, they are stuck with him in 2023, nobody is taking on his contract right now and the Dolphins are trying to make Ogbah an OLB/Edge vs his normal 4-3 DE hand in the dirt role. This is not going to end well. What a waste of resources right now. All done when the former Head Coach was here.

I heard he just had a good practice. I read a practice report from like two days ago.

I roster this guy in IDP. He was a project coming out of school, and I'm not holding my breath. Will he survive my roster cut? That is the question everybody should be asking. LOL. He doesn't lack speed, that's for sure, but when the beat reporters are "surprised" that you're making plays, then it can't bode well for how you've performed the rest of the time.

MoP who are you reading? Sources matter. I say this because I don't trust the eyes of some of the best writers
The part in quote for Ogbah...that's Omar flippin' Kelly who I have never liked BUT...many of y'all have quoted him over the years so I used him today to make a splash and start ringing the bell that Miami might not be doing as well as many think.

Not hearing great things about the offense but maybe that's because the defense has been better
I do hear the DL especially in the middle looks mighty stout despite them making a couple roster moves at DT.

2nd on Omar's list was Liam Eichenberg, who he describes right now as quicksand, getting worse by the day

Adam Beasley and Matt Infante
Adam is at camp every day, not sure how you all feel about him, used to be with Miami Herald.

Cook...$5M, not sure where Adam pulls that number but it seems like this is the amount of money Miami is willing to spend and Cook wants more.

Omar is omar... I take him with a grain of salt.
The reason I asked was contrary to that Tindall stuff. I've read and heard some positives on Tindall considering he took all of 9 snaps on defense last year ... it's progress. IIRC David Long should be ahead of him, tho expecting 17 from him is a stretch
Liam on the other hand, yikes. ... I expected soo much more by now. Not quite a bust but definitely a disappointment

That podcast I listen to that I'm sure some think I've mentioned too many times has media credentials and does a daily recap ~ 30 min podcast on the camp day. They are football people, the guy calls out route trees, goes play by play, gives thoughts etc... The pod crossover with Kyle Crabbs was pretty informative... worth the time, IMO. https://www.podbean.com/ew/pb-qa9ed-146de44

Lots of buzz about Noah picking up this D, Achane may just get a significant share, Wilkins having a tremendous camp, and lots of experimenting on offense.

I can't contain my excitement for a real weapon at RB
We saw Reggie Bush and Ricky Williams at times, hoping this is the start of a fun 3-4 year run with Achane
Fact is Coach Mike has been friends with him apparently or a fan of his for quite a while.

Achane and Waddle are friends from way back

Mike White is awful
Skyler wasn't much better but at least he has a desire to throw the ball down the field here and there.
Offense was moving when he was under Center but...he threw 2 interceptions

yeah, he's a journeyman for a reason.

the good from the other night isn't much.
The rookies looked good
We found our backup center.
the LBs played well.
The O line played decently, and decently is an improvement.

We may have found a replacement for Gesicki in Elijah Higgins, the guy from Stanford converted from WR to TE. Maybe a better route runner with more separation than Gesicki.

Competition at LG, Wynn might be better than Eichenberg. Robert Jones also looked good at RG, we're building oline depth.

I think Skylar is better than White.

Some under the radar observations. David Long is a big improvement at LB, both in coverage and big play run stops like he had yesterday. Health has been a concern in the past. We have a bunch of experienced DBs ready in the absence of Jalen Ramsay for half the season, and Cam Smith for perhaps a week or 2. At dline, udfa DT Brandon Pili made some plays. Is he our cheap backup DT?

The RB room has depth, they've looked good 2 games in a row, perhaps the new oline coach from Denver has made a difference. Pass blocking (and the center snap) is a concern until Armstead returns. Either Gaskin, who had a 90+ pff grade in game 1, or Ahmed who excelled in game 2 as a runner and receiver, could be cut. Unless Achane goes on an injury list. And unfa Chris Brooks looks like our best power back, plus he can catch, I doubt if he makes it past waivers. Dalvin who?

At WR, Cedric Wilson showed something last night, and we have no cap savings if we cut him and his big contract. The order IMO is Hill, Waddle, Berrios, Cracraft/Chosen/Ezukanma, Wilson, Sanders. Who gets cut or traded to Detroit!

LG Contender Robert Jones, out 8 weeks -MCL sprain

Eichenberg sat out most of last week with an undisclosed injury he''s bee n nursing
Wynn is going to be our starting LG for better or worse Week 1
