2025 Miami Dolphins - Week 4; when winning is really losing and the Cheetah is broken. (8 Viewers)

On twitter, Fangio being criticized for not adjusting during the game. Why leave Kodou on Diggs with no safety help. Why not switch X to Diggs. If the defense doesn't pick it up the next 2 weeks vs NYG and CAR, Fangio will lose the locker room. He has had some good defenses when he had players who put pressure on the QB. And some bad defenses in several years when he didn't have good pressure guys. I haven't been impressed. This doesn't sound like a vote of confidence from X:

>>It’s a mentality that yeah I want to go against the best," Howard said. "Let me make my money on the top guy. You pay me this money to go do what I do.

"That’s my whole mindset but it’s a new defense and new scheme. I have to control the stuff that I’ve got to control.”

Miami is in its first season under veteran defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.<<

@SwampDawg

-What do we put on the thread title this week?
-I think we should just focus on the Giants, but maybe something involving going from 70 to 20 on offense, some irony winning 70-20 then losing 48-20

I leave it in your hands, you always make us grin in here.

My thoughts on yesterday

Bad OL play pass blocking
Bad OL play run blocking, not all of them
Poor tackling
Poor tackling
Poor tackling

-On the flip side I thought Tua Tags looked great, he was not the reason Miami lost the game. Miami was scoring at will early in the game answering Buffalo on their 1st few drives.
But in the end could not keep up with Buffalo
-It's sad and it looked a lot like that 44-34 game @ Buffalo in the '90-'91 season as Buffalo started 4 Super Bowl in a row run and also looked a little like when Miami was "turning things around" and we got waxed and let them score 50+ a few years back, it was embarrassing.

But I don't blame Tua at all. He'll be fine next week vs the Giants, almost no doubt in my mind we are going to hurt these teams the next 2 weeks

Well, 4 weeks in and we are 3-1. Our offense is dynamic, and even witht he drubbing yesterday, when we were down 3 scores I thought we could still come back. That does mean something.

Now, this D is not that good. Miami, for all of its issues the past 2+ years with boundry corners has still not solved the issue. Now, we maybe snake bit at the position bc of injuries, and Diggs makes lots of good corners look bad, but Kouhu had a target on his back whenever the Bills needed a win. Add that to a non-existant pass rush (again, Allen is nuts) and sheesh. I would start any skill players at this point vs the Denver or Miami defense. Maybe Fangio's system takes time.

Anyhow, we were toe to toe with them until Armstead got hurt, and Eich was no help at center. The bills timed up some good blitzes when Hill went in motion, and much like the blocked kick, it seems we may have a few offensive "tells" that the team is going to have to wok on.

Silver lining is this: This game didn't really matter. Sure taking a 2 game lead on the Bills early in the season is cool and all, but we are likely to face them three times this year (as we did last year) so I'll take winning games 2 and 3 (when our D should be better and after the injuries they sufferred in this game theirs should be worse).

Finally: How are they able to bring in effective Linebackers and we can't? Also, Achane basically makes us understand Miami's reticence to overspend on a "name" RB.

-100% agree with your 1st entry/thought, I also thought we might mount a comeback when we opened with a TD in the 2nd Half but was thoroughly unimpressed trying to hit a 2-pt conversion right there, we didn't score a single point after that.

And i think I agree with the vibe of this whole post, the game meant nothing to me ether, we'll see them last game of the season, let's see where both teams are in December.
Good post Gator, much needed aloe-plant this morning/today to hal these wounds quickly

I hope the Giants and Panthers at home next couple weeks allow them to get their momentum again before they travel to Philly which i think Miami is going to win that game, I really do.
Forget week 1, Buffalo is the hottest team in football last 3 weeks, better they peak early than later if you ask me.

Linebackers are a problem, agreed and Achane is the steal of the draft right now, excellent work int he red zone, they couldn't get their hands on him.

-It's one game, not many of us were boasting we would win up there, on to the NY Giants

When is Conner Williams back? That's the bigger loss than Armstead mostlikely, more because Eich is just awful.
I saw a post asking how Miami managed to land the only bad ND OL player from the past few years.

Overall it was ugly on D and OL like MOP said. Quick return to earth after the fun times last Sunday. But it's better this happens in week 4 than at the end of the year I guess.

Eichenberg has been getting worse per PFF. 50.8 as a rookie, 39.8 in 2022, and now 24.4 in 2023 as a center. They've tried him at 3 positions. There's good news on the oline, Austin Jackson has been improving, he's now up to 61.7 pff grade.

I wonder if Robert Jones can play center. He's coming off IR soon.

I know many detest the PFF ratings and rankings, it's a mystery to me how they determine it all
But Tua is ranked #1 out of 34 QBs with an 88.3

Get off his BACK!!!
He might be the best thing about this team and all resources should be poured into his ability to succeed, Tua is going to be long term what determines if we turn the corner or not.
If you have your starting QB and he's a Top 5 level talent in the NFL, you are now cooking with gas and can turn the team around almost every off season.
Couple new OL and a new skill position weapon should be introduced into the offense and summer camps every year form now on.

And his arm is lively, he just needs to make sure he continues to work in rhythm and fire the ball out quickly. He will from time to time make a mistake, we're all human, right?
And he puts the ball into tight windows with incredible touch that makes it easy for WRs to catch the ball

Where is Jaylen Waddle, I'm starting to sour a little on him and not totally sure we want a BIG 2nd contract with him until he is winning some games for us with clutch catches.
He's fast and a lot of other things but he seems to be missing right now. Hate to think of this team if we didn't have Hill as our WR1 right now.

>>FYI: On his weekly WSVN-Fox 7 segment, Drew Rosenhaus said RB Jeff Wilson Jr. is healthy and ready to return off IR (pending team deciding to do so; he's eligible) and center Connor Williams "should be back in the near future, whether it's next week or the week after that."<<

I appreciate the information but I feel like Jeff Wilson is goign to have very little impact when he can suit up for Miami.
It's nice to have depth but the Achane has left the station

Again, I know many will groan and roll their eyes but believe it or not Austin Jackson is moving into the $10M per year range meaning if he were a Free Agent tomorrow, it's likely a team would offer him something like 3yrs/$30M+ which is hard to believe when we declined his 5th year option. Apparently Right Tackle is his sweet spot for now.

Andrew Van Ginkel is up to 8th!
Out of 109 LBs they rank and rate over at Chris Collinsworth's site.
I've posted this before but you all know he has a big stake in the company and it's one of the reasons they flash those rankings and ratings across the NBC broadcast
I don't believe the NFL does that on Fox or CBS at 1:00 but I might be wrong about that

-I need more Van Ginkel!

I remember the Manning-era Colts had a safety named Bob Sanders who was really good but always injured. Bill Simmons had a line about how we should stop saying he was out with an injury since that was the default status, and it was only worth commenting when he was actually healthy. I feel like we're reaching that point with Armstead

I will be focused tonight on the Giants defense more so than the offense
They don't have a weapon like the Bills at WR and their QB is nothing like Josh Allen

The Giants will try and compete tonight against Seattle, could be a close game although the Seahawks thus far seem to be the better team.
Short turnaround for New York as they travel to Hard Rock this coming Sunday for a 1:00 Sauna vs Miami

Good MNF for us to study our next opponent and then compare what we saw tonight to what we will see on Sunday
I expect Miami to bounce back ferociously next Sunday, old Phins might squeak out a 22-20 game, I think Miami will hit the GAS!

Was reading some people on Twitter talking about the Dolphins struggling in short yardage situations this season, and that Wilson Jr. is who they need in those spots. Any Dolphins fans here that can confirm or deny the short yardage struggles, is that a thing?

Omar Kelly on Twitter said:
THIS PLAY, and this shortcoming (converting 3rd and short, or 4th and short) is why Jeff Wilson needs to come off IR this week.

Dolphins have been a disaster converting these plays.

Shotgun? Word?!

Wilson on IR isn't the reason for Miami's short yardage struggles. Mostert is about the same size after gaining muscle in the off-season and Chris Brooks who weighs 235 lbs and was a tackle breaking machine in pre-season and game 3 also plays special teams. The oline without Connor Willams and questionable play-calling are reasons. Wilson might get activated from IR this week but he might not be a game day active over Brooks.

Still disappointed in Liam and the OL.
still disappointed in Vic …

I’ll go back and read post game posts later
Anyone surprised Miami is a 9.5 point early favorite
I'm gonna watch tonight but...
60-0 effort/defeat thru their 1st 6 quarters of football in '23-Giants

Miami, Hard Rock, 1:00, what do you need to see?
Are we playing Buffalo again this week?
Bounce back, revenge, 50-0 Phins...ok 50-3, they allow the Giants to kick a field goal with time running out

"Da Phins"

Bounceback, but the Giants cover. They have some speed at TE and WR with Hyatt. Daniel Jones, which one shows up? Barkley could be back. I don't trust our defense. 31-27 Miami.

It's no coincidence that the one SB the Manning-era Colts won was the year that Sanders was healthy the whole time.

So who is gong to tackle Saquon Barkley?

and please don’t say Baker - cause we all know that’s not happening.
Is it a coincidence that multiple players did better in 2022. Not yet sold on Fangio.
You have to ask yourself 2 questions:

1) does it take a while to learn this Defense?
2) This defense is predicated on getting pressure with the front 4. I don't see that. Even against the Chargers, we needed two blitzes at the end to win it. We may be more of a "cover zero" team than we think.

You could have reached back into Dolphins history and drawn the parallel to John Offerdahl.

Fangio - BUST (We have plenty of talent and the worst D in the NFL)

Chubb - BUST (His jersey number is darn close to his value)

Liam - BUST (great move trading away Dan Feeney for a ham sandwich)

Armstead - DONE (Dude needs to retire)

Wilkins/Raekwon - INVISIBLE (At least we didnt extend and overpay Wilkins)

Yet another season where we get tickled and teased, only to plummet back down to earth to get pummelled and humiliated.

Such is the life of a Dolphins fan.

I remember Offerdahl as a player, though not his injury history. Then I moved to Florida in 2015 and discovered his chain of quick-casual restaurants, which I love. Unfortunately, the one in Downtown Miami closed a few years back and now the only locations are in Broward

Armstead at LT is gonna be gone for a number of weeks according to Mike McDaniel

-Did you all watch the Giants at all last night? Thoroughly unimpressed, they can play a little defense but they have no offense right now
Saquon could be back and that will change things but we should look pretty good at home this week

I'll be disappointed if Miami somehow squanders this opportunity to start perhaps 4-1, 5-1 over the next couple weeks

Daniel Jones and Bryce Young are the next 2 QBs to face Miami

If Miami's D continues to play like dudu, it is hard to know what to expect, but very few teams have a front 4 like the Bills and basically they took advantage of Eich at center. So, other than the Philly game upcoming there is no front 4 that I expect to handle miami like the bills did. The Chiefs game after that is another solid front 4 so we shall see.

Man Frank the Tank went off on the Dolphins this week. Entertaining

The Patriots who we play again in about a month lost Judon for just about the remainder of the season and also rookie Christian Gonzalez who i was super high on coming out, he dislocated shoulder and I have no idea what recovery time is for something like that
