*** 2025 Pittsburgh Steelers: Elliot out for several weeks, sign Peppers (8 Viewers)

Big big win. Great performance by Rodgers. Effing Chris Boswell with the game ball.

But I have some concerns. The defense looked pretty awful. I’m willing to see if they can adjust. I’m more concerned by the offensive line. Did you see some of the hits that Rodgers took? No way he stays healthy.

O line looks bad. Can’t run the ball, can’t pass block.

Defense looked pathetic. Austin and/or Tomlin need to go IMO.

Rodgers did a great job distributing the ball.

Boswell saved Tomlins *** today. At least for this week. The Jets are the type of team the Steelers have to beat.

He did, but its not like the Jets front 7 are garbage.

The defense, outside of two/maybe three plays, was pretty tuuurible. Not spying Fields on that fourth down that he walked into the end zone was ludacris. Tomlin was playing it like they were facing Joe ****ing Flacco. I have much greater concerns for the defense after one game than I do for the offensive line ( which also absolutely must get better. Particularly Jones, who got whipped on at least 3 or 4 plays pass blocking).

Special teams doesn't make a play to get a turnover (and another play early to avoid one) and they very likely lose this game because of their "vaunted" defense.

I hope they figure out the D and oline, because both weaknesses can't continue if they want to win consistently.
Yup the win today was nothing more than a facade. The defense, O line and running game were all really bad today. If they can't fix any of those facets of the game, we will be lucky to get to .500 this year.

They really needed a new O-Line coach and DC this offseason. Brod Jones looks like a bust still. Only week 1, and no Harmon hurt the Dline/runD for sure. But the trenches are a problem. ARod throws a nice ball, makes good decisions, and I love the different angles he can throw from and get the ball everywhere.

They needed it 3-4 seasons ago. 🫩.

Yes. I rewatched the game focusing just on the offensive/defensive lineman last night. Both the tackles got turnstile'd or blown off the snap way too often. Interior dudes werent blameless either.

On the DL, Heyward was basically invisible most of the game too. Maybe now he can focus on football? They were rotating in the likes of Daniel Ekuale etc etc a fair amount, and the Jets deliberately went after those guys with the running backs (although Loudermilk did make a good play on that 2-point attempt). Harmon's injury probably really hurt them there.

Rodgers looked good when he had time, and some of the off platform throws were impressive. However, it was prerty clear that he does not want to move much and when he was forced he looked exactly like most expected.

He threw a couple of passes stepping in the bucket because he thought (accurately) he was going to get murdered, and was very lucky they weren't intercepted.

We all know he's Tomlin-level allergic to interceptions and turnovers, but I am afraid we're going to see more of them from him this year because of him bailing out to save his life more than he had to earlier in his career

I mentioned in the Jets thread about facing the QB they rejected and the Steelers had this same situation.

(Side note - I'm sure I'll be corrected but I can't recall this situation before where a game had both starting QBs facing their former team in Week 1)

Was a compelling storyline for sure.

Have a close friend message me. Maybe half kidding...

Maybe Arthur Smith IS an offensive genius... as long as he a QB who can execute his playbook?

Enjoyed seeing a QB consistently hit receivers in stride. Especially great to leverage Calvin Austin's ability to separate deep. Cal was effective and started drawing PI.

I'm with the masses for OL play. Broderick Turnstyle Jones is going to get Rodgers killed. At a minimum the team needs to provide support on the left more often.

Russell beat the Jets last year. But mainly due to turnovers. Russell is cooked its just a matter of week(s) before he is benched.

Broderick was abysmal. NYJ defensive line is pretty good. Broderick must turn it around, give better effort or he will be benched by the bye week.

Justin Fields looked pretty good. But then he shows in flashes.

Aaron played a great game. Over compensated for the line and lack of run game. I just hope that the line doesn't get him hurt.

Steelers defense huge disappointment. Continued gashing from last year.

Oh in case you didn't know Joe has a man crush on Aaron Rodger's. Sorry Joe I had to lol

One thing is for sure: they would not have won this game with Russell Wilson

Or Fields. not that he couldn't make the plays, necessarily, but Tomlin would never have permitted some of those plays to be called with him at QB, let alone allow him to check plays at the line.

Another thing I am choosing to take as a positive from watching the game the second time to check out line play: They pretty much abandoned the run game when they realized it wasn't going to work. Not sure if that was also a by-product of Rodgers' presence, but it was necessary/welcome.

What are the odds that would have happened at any other time the past 5 or 6 years? 3%? Less? We have seen probably 50 games where Tomlin would have happily continued to ram some mid RB1 into the teeth of a defense in similar circumstances. Had they chose to do that again yesterday, there was probably a only an incredibly slim chance they'd have cracked 24 points.

Yes Tomlin would of significantly restricted Fields and placed Kryptonite in his pockets.

Keep in mind Aaron appeared to be able to audible...... Right or did I miss something. In the past it was frowned upon

Jet's are powerful on both lines - in retrospect results not that crazy.

Rogers arm talent and game mgmt - pretty stellar and the endless WR2 talk - sure I guess. That offense looks legit and can score on anyone.

That's the last 38 point O/U line for sure.

Love the optimism and I somewhat agree but the running game and pass protection, particularly from the left tackle position, must improve substantially or Mr. Rodgers won't make it pass midseason.

The oline will get tested this week vs the Seahawks. They were all over Purdy for 57.9% pressure on his dropbacks, which is a crazy stat. Leonard Williams is one to watch on that front since he is a disruptive force.

You have to imagine that the O line will improve over time given the potential young talent. The running backs on the other hand is going to be a problem all year. Maybe they can make a trade.

Can they trade for an entire Defense?

We could petition the league to let him wear a red jersey?

Pretty annoying if we bust on 2 first round tackles. Did they do anything right?
