*** 2025 Pittsburgh Steelers: Irish eyes are smiling. 3-1 going into the bye (7 Viewers)

Love the thread title.

Look I don’t like 4th quarter either but come on you guys. Let’s give the Steelers a little love. Overall they played great. And as for Tomlin, if you don’t think he had something to do with the defensive adjustments that resulted in constant penetration of the Vikes Oline and young guys in the secondary making one inspired play after another, then you’re fooling yourself. THAT is how you should evaluate a coach and not a few conservative decisions in the 4th quarter that I could argue for or against. We’re lucky we have him.

Steelers 3-1 going into the bye so I’m happy.

I thought the gameplan was fine and the 18 point lead going into the 4th quarter backs that up.

Tomlin’s screwup was not taking the field goal. You gotta go up by two TDs there though the failure still put the ball inside the 2.

To me the long pass that led to the TD looked more like a blown coverage than a problem with the defense scheme so the game was a lot scarier than it should have been.

I’m sure others will complain but I’ll take the win

His mismanagement of timeouts (shocker) screwed them on that 4th down late. Why call a ****ing TO on an onsider? Your hands team was out there. You icing the K?

They were down 3 starting OL. He BETTER figure out how to take advantage.

A win is certainly a win, but he 100% "Tomlin'd" his way into a one score game from a three score game.

I thought it was odd too but I assumed they had the wrong personnel or saw something they didn’t like.

I don’t think he called a TO just for the fun of it but I hadn’t considered he did it cause he wanted to do something dumb.

Rodgers with another strong performance. Defense took advantage of OL shakeup by the Vikings. All around best game of the year for the Steelers.

Love to see the team playing better and it’s fun watching the offense again.

Cleveland up next after the bye. Tough D to crack. Won’t be as easy to move the ball.

The kicker was already running up to the ball when they called the time out. It felt like it was in the air when they actually awarded it to him.

Not sure what they could have seen they didn't like at that point, so to me it felt like he was trying to get cute. And predictably the ball went right to Roman Wilson who caught it like a Gold Glove shortstop.

They burned the time out and the Vikings did the exact same thing with the exact same result. It benefited them in no way, unless they had 13 men on the field which I assume would have been flagged the moment the kicker moved forward. All he really did was give the Vikings a second chance to maybe have somebody muff the ball.

With his history of mismanagement of timeouts and clock, I just don't give him any free passes on that kind of nonsense. I am more than comfortable being "that guy" for calling him out in a game they won. They need to button up that kind of crap, because if it was any quarterback other than Carson Wentz there's a better than average chance that they would have been going to overtime, at minimum

Usually I agree with you but in this case it seems like a minor issue. The decision to not kick the field goal was far more egregious in my opinion

Heavy sigh......still not ready to get back on the bandwagon ;)
We have been down this road before. There is no reason to get super excited just yet. It was a decent win but the good teams on the schedule are coming. We will find out a lot more about this team in a few weeks. Beating a team led by Carson Wentz doesn’t do much for me.

The Browns game has Boswell with 3-4 FGs written all over it.

1st three Steelers games, they averaged 3 yards per carry on the ground. Yesterday they averaged 4.5 yards. That is a decisive winning factor. Offensive line improvement…and Gainwell.

Warren fantasy owners will hate this but Tomlin should give serious consideration to a 50/50 split.

Ramsey and Austin reported to be out multiple weeks. Should get Porter Jr and Highsmith back after the bye, but not sure they need Highsmith that much. They should be looking to trade him and Friermuth for a WR2. Does Tenn really need Ridley? Does NOLA really need Olave? Wouldnt they rather have a pick and a good player in return?
Steeler fans will probably say Friermuth needs to be a one helmet guy tho.

Will happily accept 3-1 at the bye... but ffs there is so much wrong with what happened in that 4th qtr.
Lbh you're going to complain about Tomlin no matter what he does.

Only when its warranted.

He just frequently provides opportunities. 🤓
It's OK - we're used to it.

and you're not wrong

But that sure did look like a much improved team. I would guess the all-22 shows much improved play from both lines. We looked like an NFL team for the first time in a long while

The Ramsey injury seems like Karma doing its thing. How ironic that he faked an injury and then it actually happens to him later in the game.

Rodgers with 8 TD passes in 4 games. Fields had 5 in 6 games last year. Wilson added 16 in 11 games. 21 total, which Rodgers could (key word) surpass a few games past mid season.

The run blocking was absolutely better this week. And against a legit front 7.

Not sure if it was because they leveraged the "heavy" lineup more, or if it was Gainwell's vision, or better playcalling, or they've got 4 games playing together now (since they didn't work as a full unit pretty much the entire PS) or what. Probably a little bit of each.

Hopefully, they can build off it and keep improving. They will have a much, much easier time of it on O if they can establish even a vanilla-level rush offense since Rodgers is still very, very good off play action.

Re-watched the game yesterday cuz I was bored. When Highsmith gets healthy again, they reeeeally need to find a way to put all three of he, Watt, and Herbig on the field at the same time more often.

Herbie was schooling freakin' Darrisaw on some of his reps (and actually was setting the edge when called upon without getting totally trucked). Dude just plays like his hair is on fire.

Not saying one of them should be playing ILB/DE full-time, or anything, but they need to come up with packages to get them all out there at once more frequently. Good things should happen if they do.

Herbig leads the league with a 37% pass rush win rate in the 62 plays tracked.

I agree he should be on the field more.

Gainwell broke a bunch of ankles in the hole - a place where Warren tries to truck people. The important part there being that there were holes to run through. We'll take it, and Rogers doesn't need a year to throw the ball, just something reasonable.

Highsmith and JPJ in excahnge for Ramsey *should* be OK to get past Clevelend and Cinncy and if the stars align we might be healthy enough to have a decent home showing against the Pack.

Watching the now benched Russ and at some point benched Fields.....

I now think the Steelers are going to win the AFC North. Not because they’re a great team (they might be a good team; we just don’t know yet) but because everybody else sucks. Baltimore is collapsing, the Bengals are awful without Burrow, and Cleveland has a good D but no offense. I think you have to favor the Steelers, don’t you?

IF the Steelers beat the Browns next week and Bengals lose to Packers which they should,. and a Lamar-less Ravens team loses to the Rams which they should, they will have I believe the largest division lead in football. 3-4 games

Disaster happens to a lot teams with back up caliber quarterback play.

Baltimore is going to get healthy and their schedule gets considerably easier. A 1-4 start is not a death sentence for a team like the Ravens.

The Steelers have an opportunity to get a nice lead in the division but it all starts with the Browns game. Win it and the momentum keeps going,. Lose at home to the Browns and we are in the muck with the rest of the division

It's a big game.

Cleveland has their QB (for now) and judkins is a stud. And 2 really good TE which we are weak at.

It's our trap game, some injuries linger, our O is .....sketchy at best......and Rogers ain't seen Garrett yet.

I think the OL will win or lose the game. The D might get to Dillon - but I would not hang my hat on that.

Feels like a Boswell win

Gabriel had a nice debut performance but I think our defense will give him all he can handle.

I do agree that but our o-line against Cleveland’s front 7 is a major concern.

The story line will be the aging HoFer vs the rookie QB but it will likely be a low scoring game that will be determined by turnovers.

Yeah, this is a classic "playing down to the competition" kinda gimmick this week. Hopefully, they avoid it.

Not ready to feel like they should win the division yet, but it's slanting toward "it's going to be pretty disappointing if they don't" given how the Ravens(and even the Bengals) have imploded due to injuries.

The Browns defense is pretty legit, and injuries could easily derail the Steelers too, so they need to be mindful of that. Rodgers could get murdered this week, so it will be interesting to see if they try and go heavy again to mitigate their rush/improve their own run game for a second week in a row. If they do choose to work it in, I really hope they start throwing it a bit more to Washington to keep teams more honest when that package shows up in-game.

I would expect Dillon will be in for a pretty long day if they keep dialing up the blitzes the way they have been the past couple of weeks. Opportunities for turnovers should be plentiful.
