That's a nice combo ROS. I have Dallas and am nervous about playing them vs KC next week if last night was an indication that Mahomes is back.Whew. Glad I didn’t overreact to Denver game and drop cowboys. Just goes to show you football is random and even good defenses and players can have down games.
played them over patriots. 22 points, couldn’t be happier to ride both of them ROS.
Damn. I would definitely love a shot to pickup panthers. Agree kc matchup doesn’t look as good but it was a division matchup and I think historically mahomes and chiefs figured out the raiders defense and always kill them. Different in non division games. Not sure how capable Dallas is in mimicking the other teams that crushed kc with cover 2 shell but I’d probably still ride them if I didn’t have a better option. That's a nice combo ROS. Meanwhile, here's a #protip, especially if you're playing in Yahoo (where you can drop bench guys who have already played). Pick up SF in advance of MNF and skip waivers so you can have them for the Jax matchup next week. Niners haven't been great, but Jax is still about as close to an auto-start as you can get. As of now, leaning toward starting them over Dallas this week. May also consider Carolina vs WFT if they clear waivers.
Don't disagree but to be fair. Those last 3 are division matchups so they can be more unpredictable. Especially if NYG start getting healthy and have their full offense towards end of year. May be a team that comes out of nowhere to be monsters in December. And Washington manhandled TB last week.Time to grab the PHI D.
NO, @NYG, @NYJ, bye, WASH, NYG, @WASH
Not sure I think this D is that great, but those are some sweet matchups. Been searching for a playoff D and PHI could be it.
Patrick Mahomes has won an MVP, two AFC Championships and one Super Bowl.
Russell Wilson has been to eight Pro Bowls, has won two NFC titles and one Super Bowl championship.
And Kyler Murray is considered one of the NFL’s brightest young stars and is among the frontrunners for MVP.
These are the three quarterbacks the Green Bay Packers have faced the last three weeks. And together they’ve combined for a whopping one touchdown, four interceptions and a passer rating of 59.7.
Green Bay’s defense — long considered the unit that prevented greatness in Titletown — is now carrying the Packers. The latest example came Sunday when Green Bay blanked Seattle, 17-0,marking the first time since Sept. 18, 2011 the Seahawks were shutout.
“This defense has been opportunistic and been really, really stout the last three or four weeks, so it’s fun seeing them play with so much confidence,” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “I’m not going to say that we’re a defensive football team just yet, but we’ve definitely been playing like that the last few weeks.”
Boy, have they ever.
When the schedule was released in April, this three-game stretch against elite quarterbacks from Arizona, Kansas City and Seattle jumped out. Not only have the Packers survived it, they’ve put the rest of the league on notice that they have a championship-level defense for the first time since their 2010 Super Bowl season.
In fact, Green Bay now ranks No. 3 in total defense, allowing just 309.9 yards per game. That’s their best mark since the 2010 team allowed 309.1 yards per game.
The Packers are also ranked third in scoring defense, allowing just 18.0 points per game. Again, that’s Green Bay’s best mark since 2010, when it allowed just 15.0 points per game.
With the quarterbacking duo of Brett Favre and Rodgers leading the Packers since 1992, Green Bay’s offense has typically drawn all of the attention. This season, though, it’s the defense that’s stealing the headlines.
“This is a week by week thing,” safety Adrian Amos said. “We have to go out there next week and play very well against another great team. And that’s when we can say it, at the end of the year. You can’t say you’re the best in the middle of the season. We gotta say it at the end of the year.”
Early on this season, the thought of Green Bay’s defense ranking with the NFL’s elite was laughable.
The Packers were dreadful in a 38-3 loss to New Orleans in Week 1. And new defensive coordinator Joe Barry — who failed in that role in both Washington and Detroit — was under heat.
In the nine games since, though, the Packers are allowing just 15.7 points per game. And the defense is the biggest reason Green Bay is currently 8-2 and sitting atop the NFC.
“We got guys all over the place,” cornerback Kevin King said. “That’s the thing about this team. We have some great personnel guys who got some very quality, elite players on this team, starters and two deep, three deep, all the way down. We got great players who are ready, come in and get this job done. Really go out there and do what they’re supposed to do.”
Green Bay’s last three games has certainly put this unit on the map. Here are the highlights:
• Arizona — The Packers intercepted Murray twice, didn't allow a touchdown pass and held the speedy quarterback to just 21 rushing yards on six attempts (3.5).
• Kansas City — Green Bay held Mahomes to just 4.49 yards per attempt, the lowest of his career. Mahomes also threw for just 166 yards, his fewest in a game that he finished since he became the starter in 2018.
• Seattle — Wilson completed just 50.0% of his throws and averaged only 4.0 yards per attempt. Wilson also threw two interceptions and no touchdowns.
“I mean, the last three games, playing against three stud quarterbacks holding Arizona to 21 (points), Pat (Mahomes) and the Chiefs to 13 and then shutting out Russell (Wilson) and the Seahawks,” Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “It's an amazing three-game stretch.”
Things won’t get any easier. Five of Green Bay’s final seven games (Minnesota twice, Baltimore, Los Angeles Rams, Cleveland) are against offenses that rank in the top-12 in football.
But who would have thought the Packers would slow the Cardinals, Chiefs and Seahawks to a crawl? And who would have thought Green Bay’s defense would be discussed among the best in football?
“We’re just focused on being the best defense that the Green Bay Packers can be,” King said. “That’s trying to be better than what we play last week and the week before that. If we do that every week, then I’m not too worried about what other defenses are doing. If a team is playing better than we playing, that’s fine. We’re still getting dubs.”
Tampa Bay's defense couldn't get necessary stops
It wasn't a wretched performance by the Bucs' defense as they only gave up 4.5 yards per play and limited Washington to 17 points on non-turnover generated drives, but the unit ultimately killed the team's chances at a comeback by failing to make necessary stops.
Things started off poorly when Washington converted on six of its seven third-down attempts, and was able to convert a second-quarter fourth down attempt after the only third down miss to that point. Three plays later, quarterback Taylor Heinicke connected with receiver DeAndre Carter for a 20-yard touchdown.
Washington finished having converted on 11-of-19 (58%) third-down attempts and 2-of-2 on fourth down. For context, Kansas City entered the weekend ranking No. 1 in the league on third down by converting 52.4% of the time.
The most embarrassing part of the game for Tampa Bay's defense beyond the miserable showing on conversion downs, though, was the unit's final drive on the field.
After the Bucs got the score within four points, Washington got the ball back with 10:55 left in regulation. The Football Team would proceed to burn 10:26 off the clock across 19 plays, traveling 80 yards, converting four-of-five third downs, and scoring on a 4th and goal one-yard rushing attempt by Antonio Gibson. It was the longest drive by time of possession in the NFL this year.
It wasn't as though Washington created a bunch of chunk plays, though. The longest gain of the drive was 16 yards via a Terry McLaurin screen. No other play went over seven yards - Washington simply inched its way down the field and Tampa Bay could do nothing about it.
Washington owned a 10-point lead with 0:31 left on the clock after Gibson's score, and the Bucs were out of timeouts. The game was over.
ProFootballTalk reports Von Miller (ankle) is "good to go" for Week 10 against the 49ers.
Miller joined the Rams via trade two weeks ago but was unable to suit up last week due to an ankle issue. He opened this week of practices as a DNP but was upgraded to a limited participant by Friday. Miller has 4.5 sacks in seven games this year and will add another dimension to an already terrifying LA defense.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Minkah Fitzpatrick (COVID-19) is unlikely to play in Week 11 against the Chargers.
Tomlin was pessimistic about Fitzpatrick's Week 11 availability a day after the team placed their stud safety on the COVID-19 list. He could conceivably play this week if he has two negative COVID tests 24 hours apart since he is vaccinated against the virus. His absence would be a boon for Justin Herbert and the LA offense.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports Titans LB Bud Dupree (abdomen) is "day-to-day."
Fowler adds that Dupree could "miss some time" since he's still undergoing testing to determine the severity of his injury and a hard timetable. The Titans still avoided the worst after Dupree was injured in Week 10 and immediately ruled out. He was replaced by fellow former Steelers linebacker Ola Adeniyi.

I love the Dolphins D down the stretch. Especially this week.
Chargers placed DE Joey Bosa on the reserve/COVID list.
Interior run-stuffer Jerry Tillery will join him on the list. It's bad news for the availability of both on Sunday night as few players have been able to turn around for their upcoming game when testing positive mid-week, Tuesday included. Bosa is reportedly unvaccinated – which gives him a chance to play on Sunday if he does not test positive before then – while Tillery did get the vaccine and is likely out for Week 11. Their statuses ahead of Sunday Night Football are with monitoring.

You like Miami better than Carolina?I have NE & TB but put in a claim to swap out the Bucs & Fins.
Yes. With a bye in week 13. If you can afford to carry 2 defenses, the Colts are at the Texans in week 13. You might have to pick up the Colts in week 12. The Colts have TB & BUF in weeks 11 and 12.I believe Tennessee has some good matchups down the stretch and is a decent streaming option.
Without Henry and Julio, I have concerns about the defense having to do more. Their pass rush pressure rate is below average. But as you say, the schedule is good down the stretch.JohnnyU said:I believe Tennessee has some good matchups down the stretch and is a decent streaming option.
I think it's close but Flacco starting for Jets this weekend definitely bumps Miami upjobarules said:You like Miami better than Carolina?

Flacco still throws a good deep ball. But his mobility is poor. If he has time, Miami's CBS can be beat. I think it's a wash.Disagree. Probably in the minority.
Miami would have been a significantly better play if M. White was starting. Guy was a one trick pony constantly checking down to WRs. Once Ds figured that out and forced him to throw...disaster.
Flacco competent. Wouldn't be surprised if it's the best the NYJ offense has looked.
Certainly possible. Obviously, the Jets are making the decision because they think it makes their offense better.Disagree. Probably in the minority.

this week Fins, ROS Panthersjobarules said:You like Miami better than Carolina?
I disagree with this. If you're not starting Panthers this week there is no reason to roster them. The next 3 weeks they have 2 decent matchups but a bye week mixed in. In the playoff weeks their schedule is BRUTAL and they are unusable.this week Fins, ROS Panthers
anyway ended up with Carolina (dropped Bucs) & when I saw this morning no one grabbed Miami I dropped my WR5 purely for the block
so now I have three DSTs (lol) with a good matchup Week 11
it’s a mortal lock I’ll pick the wrong one

Currently Im rostering MIA & TB. I like the fact I can start 2 defenses vs the Jets in the playoffs (week 15 & 17)
Jobarules says it well. Panthers have a terrible schedule after this week. They've been solid, sure, but you're inviting a lot of pain if you're relying on them to get decent points against top offenses to close out the season.this week Fins, ROS Panthers

What are people with Dallas doing in moderately short bench leagues that can't really justify holding a second defense? Have them in both leagues where we have a D/ST slot, one where I'm two games above the playoff bubble I think I just roll this week and gamble but the other is a tight must win game between 6-4 teams
DAL at KC at first seems like a tough match up. I would not drop them even against KC just because someone is giving them a lower point rank this week. DAL is one of the best. If one did have room and lucky enough to pick of TEN, well, I'd play TEN this week. Don't sweat the DAL D.I can't imagine there's that many single defenses that you would ever be comfortable holding every week besides the Bills. You will always have weeks where you don't feel as strong. That being said, if you have the option to switch cowboys for Titans, then I don't think that's a bad move. But when you do that, you're going to have to drop them during their bye.
If you have to win this week and there's a better defense this week then I think it's a moot point. You said you can't recover if you lose this week so you got to worry about next week later. However, it's not a given the cowboys will do terrible this week as other teams have shut down KC so I don't give them up to start someone like the Jets...
Risk is a necessary thing. You drop cowboys, are you comfortable streaming for the rest of the year? That's potentially what will happen. You feel good this week but worse every week after. Or you feel good next week but then go through this exercise again. You choose a single defense to get off the carousel.

yeah. If these weren’t defenses we would treat top 5 defenses same as stud players. You’d never drop them even if matchup is bad. But because they are defenses people see them as inherently less valuable. And that’s why this thread is great every year because I’ll happily plop 10-15 percent faab on a stud d that will give me 10-20 points a week over a flavor of the week that probably won’t make a difference long term.Team Smokin' said:DAL at KC at first seems like a tough match up. From a manager who has played the weekly waiver wire steaming game for kickers and defenses for many years, parts of years, all year, to now looking to find one of those top 5 or top 3 defenses and kickers to get them through their early byes helps too. One lessen position to have to juggle players. Sometimes my teams can hold 2 solid defenses for a week or two.yeah. If these weren’t defenses we would treat top 5 defenses same as stud players.
