Surprised of that number, thought it would be less, but as many fans we can get to watch the NFL the better, I love it.

Most popular women jerseys sold....

#1 Troy Pal, wow...even more surprised, but they prolly luv his hair.

#2 P. Manning

#3 Drew Brees

#4 Aaron Rodgers

#5 Tom Brady...Shocked he's not higher with the ladies.

Troy has lady-like hair, but I wouldn't call him a woman. the other 4 do seem feminine for football players.

Honestly, not surprised by any of this. But most women I know are casual fans, the male fans are more serious about it.

Women mainly like the social/party aspect of the weekly football game. If pro football teams played several times a week - thereby making each game far less of an event - they'd like football about as much as they like baseball or basketball.

I can see them buying pink jerseys as they are more stylish, but like the earlier post said you have to define "fan". 40% seems high for real fans. I'd say 10-20% understand and like football.

And most of those are in Wisconsin.

Not surprised at all.

My mom & dad have had Steeler season tix since '71 and my mom is more intense about the games than my dad.

I have a sister who is so into the games that if it's close in the 4th qtr she has to DVR it, turn it off, and watch it after she knows what happened. Yeah, I know, she's nuts.

I have 2 other sisters, 1 probably hasn't watched a football game in 20 years and the other watches if it's a big game and the Steelers are playing (playoffs/SB).

My wife will watch a little during the season when I have the Steelers on, but otherwise is pretty uninterested. Although she will watch the playoffs/SB with me and does enjoy that.

:toilet:And the "girls just aren't real football fans" tone in here is ridiculous. And a little sexist.

Definately not surprised. Many women claim to be fans and claim a favorite team.

Of course, many of them actually watch their team play a complete game only 2 or 3 times a season. A liberal definition of "fan" could easily produce a 40% figure. There are tons of women who are true fans though. My girlfriend is one of them. She even made a mini-Christmas tree for the bedroom with an Eagles theme. :)

We had a SuperBowl party at our home last year with 12 couples. The guys were all watching the game and checking squares. The women were all in the kitchen talking about whatever. Every once in awhile they would come in for a minute ot two. I think only one of them was really interested in the game and that was my wife.

I'm sceptical. I think it depends on how loosely you want to define the term "fan".
Me too. Most were probably polled and heard the word football and thought "yeah I like to watch football once in a while" and said yes, not even knowing what Fantasy Football is. I have been playing this game a long time and I have met one woman who played. This report fails.

Wait, so you're saying you can't be a football fan unless you play fantasy football?

So how come Clay Matthews isn't on this list yet?

Agreed, but NFL is a strong product, it's not hard to believe that many women call themselves football fans.. I'm sure if you looked at how many are fans to the extent we are the % would be a lot different.

Congrats, you married a good woman :goodposting: I know many Women who like football during parties, and like to talk about there team being better, or their favorite player (during those parties or in the weeks leading up to the SB)... But I don't know quite as many who are interested in watching football at home or during the regular season.. Also I know plenty of woman who enjoy going to games..

I think it's a social thing for most of them.

 My buddy calls me up today and asks me to guess who the most popular nfl jersey is among women. I was halfway listening to M&M this morning and Golic was going on and on about how his 16 yo daughter is in love with Clay Matthews because of the long hair.

So naturally I guessed Clay Matthews and his response was much laughter and a series of false accusations towards me.

It's not sexist. Well, I should take that back - for ME it's not sexist. Nobody here is saying a woman cannot be a real football fan, just that the 40% figure is off the mark. And I'll freely admit that this may just be my bias from personal experience, but I've heard way too many first hand accounts from the fairer sex come out of the bathroom and ask something to the effect of "Did they score the goal yet?" or "Why does #29 keep running right into them instead of going around them?" Or another example, I've never had an intelligent converation with a woman about a questionable call on the field during a booth review or clock management inside of 5:00 in the half. Doesn't mean they aren't out there, but no way in hell is it 40%. Now if you define fan as throwing on a jersey and rooting for a team at a party or the sports bar, then yeah I'll buy it. But VERY few women are so rabid they bother to learn the intricacies of the game.

Yeah, unfortunately most of them also understand and like buttered cheeseburgers and frozen custard.

I believe it. All the gals in Pittsburgh (I use that term loosely, its Pittsburgh) are way into the Steelers and even know the offensive linemen and smaller details of the game.

a woman i work with claims to be a huge steelers fan. Of course, she had absolutely no idea who they were playing a few weeks ago in the divisional round. Someone asked her, and her exact quote was "Maybe Seattle?......"

Of course, she had no problem making little comments after Pitt beat the Jets on Sunday.

In my experience, most female "football fans" are pretty similar to this. The game is an event for them and its something to talk about with guys. But most of them only have very topical knowledge.

I'm not really impressed by the idea that guys are better informed when I see them massaging that information into ridiculous claims and theories daily.

40% of Football fans are woman. Shocked or No?

40% are one woman?
I think I found her
Looks like a potential nose tackle in a 3-4. Wide, low to the ground, built for power. I just hope they don't bust her out as a Pouncy replacement in the upcoming. It is possible she could be a two-way player and have some skill at centering as well. I don't know that B.J. Raji could establish a low enough pad level to move her, and it looks like a looong way around her.

I don't know if it's possible for her to snap a ball, but she could easily be a Gilbert Brown clone. At his peak, (or valley?) that guy was impossible to move! Probably upgrade over Casey Hampton in the run defense. Not sure about how well of a pass rush should could muster.
