**49'ers at Rams** (+6.5, 43.5) 4:25 (1 Viewer)

This one's about over.

SF will be lucky to make the playoffs this season with that defense.
Dude SF played without an All Pro Team.. Kittle, Debo, and CMC... I think they will be ok
Not with this defense.

It's OK, we can miss the playoffs this season, get a decent draft pick, lose a bunch of FAs because we have to pay Purdy, reset at several positions, and go into next season as a non favorite to go to the SB.

That is when we will win it.

WOW!
I am in shock at the final score
I thought for sure the Niners were winning this football game
Credit to the Rams

Seattle 3-0
Arizona 1-2
LA Rams 1-2
San Fran 1-2

The Super Bowl hangover is real

Yeah, the 49ers I think have one more year of serious contention. By 2026, they're going to have to move on from some of their vets and hope the replacement players can step up and fill the void. The Eagles are there now.
They were without CMC, Kittle, and Deebo, and clearly have a franchise QB who's only 24, & threw 3 TDs to the WR3, but do go on with your wild theories.

They have to pay said QB so his cap hit will go from ~$1M to upwards of $25M.

Then have a bunch of older guys like Trent Williams (36), George Kittle (31), Samuel (28), and Warner (28) to name a few. All those guys will be 30+ in 2026.

Then a guy like McCaffrey will be 29 and approach (if he won't have already passed) 1,500 carries and 2,100 touches. How much longer can his body hold up (doesn't look like much longer) and how effective can he continue to be.

They have this year and maybe next with this core of vets. Then they have to start cutting bait, either due to cost or age. It's not a wild theory. Father time is undefeated.

As I said above, the Eagles have started their transition losing Kelce and Cox this offseason. They knew it was coming and had replacements ready to go. Will the 49ers?

There is no defending this loss by San Fran. Injuries? Come on. Rams are missing both starting, elite WR's and half their OLine.

Mason has been stellar and they just paid somebody who is supposedly an elite WR.

Yeah, Super Bowl windows are tight.

Moody's miss cost then the game
It didn't help, but more accurately stated, Purdy didn't see Aiyuk 40 yards down field WIDE OPEN for a TD when he did his little 45 second scramble drill - that also was costly, as a TD there would have iced it.
Kinda hard to see everything down the field on every play.

An Aiyuk drop on 3rd down killed a drive that could have put us up 21-0. Bells drop would have put us on the Rams' 25 with a minute left.

Of Purdys 8 incompletions, SIX were drops. Take those drops out and he missed 2 throws all day.

Purdy is the last name that should be named if we're discussing blame.

And Kittle & Deebo might be gone or might restructure. I’ve learned to not question my team on cap - cap goes up every year, and these guys are wizards at finding money to the point that the cap is virtually meaningless.
Then have a bunch of older guys like Trent Williams (36), George Kittle (31), Samuel (28), and Warner (28) to name a few. All those guys will be 30+ in 2026.
And they have a bunch of young guys coming up. And another draft.

Mason sure looks like a solid replacement - and Isaac looked great on the touches he had, so I’m not sure this sinks the team?

Which is why they draft players every year, or sign FAs, obviously.

Sure looks that way, yeah.

Not saying Purdy wasn’t great or that Aiyuk didn’t have a drop.

and while you can’t see everything every play, he HAS to see a wide open WR downfield. It was his 1st read and he missed it.

Not sure why you’d dismiss that or use whataboutism to attempt to deflect from it. It was a sure fire wide open TD on busted coverage and Purdy missed it.

It was absolutely one of the reasons they lose. Not saying it’s the only reason - but it’s as bad or worse than Moody’s MFG when evaluating the outcome of this game, and nowhere near “the last thing”.

A big momentum shift was the Rams' fake punt towards the end of the 2nd. 14-0 at that point, Niners could've put the game out of reach had they gotten the stop, or the ball back from an actual punt. Yes, I know there was still another half to play, but going into the half with potential scores of 21-0, 17-0, or even 14-0, is very different than only being up 14-7.

Not sure why you’d dismiss that or use whataboutism to attempt to deflect from it.
Not doing that at all, I just think its weird that THATS the play you look at for blame. Aiyuk probably would've dropped it anyway, he's one of the biggest reasons we're 1-2 right now.

Ok, so it sounds like you agree with me that this core of players has, maybe, one more season after this of contention.

Sometimes, I think people on these boards argue for the sake of arguing.

I didn’t. I said it was one of the plays.

There are several, among which is coaching that didn’t run the ball enough when they were up 2 scores, and defense, which became a screen door after the punt fake.

The MFG & Purdy’s inability to hit his primary receiver deep for a TD were plays that took points off the board though, so we tend to fixate on those more.

I’m actually more irritated that our vaunted defense coughed up a 50 yard pass to Tutu freaking Atwell at the end.

You weren’t arguing that. You were saying the window of competition is closing.

Way to move the goalposts though.

Im more bitter because Moody is my kicker and cost me 5 points.
That is fair.

I started Aubrey over Moody this week in 2 dynasty leagues where I had that choice.

Here's what I wrote (I bolded the exact argument that you agreed with):

I didn't move any goalposts, you just didn't see the goalposts as they were.

Yeah, 9ers are a solid org and have been making good moves. But their window with this core group of guys is short. They’ll still be in the hunt, but disappointing for them to not get the Lombardi twice when they were head and shoulders tops in the league (minus KC).

Doesn’t mean they will suck- just they’ll come back to the pack, a little more. This season with all the injuries and off-season stuff, they are already coming back to the pack. DET and MIN look like the cream if the NFC right now. SGO, PHI, DAL, NOS, ATL, TBB look like the next tier. Ofc, it is only week 3.

Let’s also take a look at Shanny’s end of game clock management with just over 2 mins remaining:
Pass, pass, pass, 13 seconds of clock burned.

Granted, there was a horrific drop there, but still.
