**Dallas at Philadelphia**(-8.5, 48.5) 8:20 NFL Kickoff on NBC (5 Viewers)

That would have been a spectacular catch. Cmon.
Yea but I mean…..that’s what he gets all that money for. Hit his hands at the end of the game. You need that.
I agree, the biggest moment, a pretty good throw from Dak, CD Lamb was open and had a step and the ball went thru his arms, he decided he needed to jump and perhaps that was true
You don't get those play calls often, 4th and 3 and they send him on a fly and throw it to him, excellent play call, the ball was there

Sure it would have been a clutch catch but that is why they pay Lamb all that money
AJBrown really got a chance to showcase his skills last night.

Terrific opening night game thread, lot of Philly-Dallas fighting the first 5 pages but the entire Shark Pool got in on the action last night, I thought this place was a lot of fun during the game
To be able to post about a specific play in the middle of the game and actually get instant feedback on what you saw is still a terrific experience after 25 years around here

Thanks @Joe Bryant

Hell of a showing by Dallas. They aren't gonna be the laughingstock people thought, this feels like a wildcard contender.
All they need is each teams defensive player to self eject before a single play from scrimmage each game and they might go 7-10!
Don't be ridiculous, Eagles D without Carter is still a very good defense, just not the juggernaut of last season. This was a very good showing by Dallas. They shut down the pass game, and they shut down Barkley. I wasn't expecting either to happen.
It’s not. We didn’t get any pass rush all right long. Dallas is not a good team. The Eagles defense as is is not good. I’d say above average. We let Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams (both who look like 4.7-4.8 40 guys) get 100 yards.

A W is a W though.

This won’t fly vs Pat Mahomes next week.
MIght be a bit too early for this conclusion. There were four or five just missed plays against Dak, plays where DAk fired the pass with guys all around him or swinging at his arm and JUST missing. Have to believe if Carter had been in there a couple of those would have gotten home, and the run game wouldn't have been as successful. The pass rush didn't get good numbers, but it was far from non existent

I looked this up, since 1959 the great State of Pennsylvania has averaged a whopping 2 deaths per year by lightning strikes...
Now look I don't want to get everyone up in a tiff about it but last night delaying the game an hour was ridiculous, really over the top and the radar didn't look that bad

The chances of someone dying while driving on the roads coming to the game and traveling home has to be much higher than anyone getting struck by lightning.
We're going overboard on something that doesn't usually happen. In all of the college and NFL games and sporting events outside, how many folks have been killed or struck by lightning?
I just don't recall reading very many stories about it. I live in Florida and we have a lot of Thunder/Lightning storms, pretty sure we have the most and we don't overreact the way i saw the officials or whoever makes the call last night

BTW Mike Tirico was priming the audience up for it instead of calling the football game in the 2nd Half, he couldn't stop talking about some rain clouds off to the West
The whole thing feels scripted as does the entire NBC broadcast and their team of folks, they have to be the worst. Amazon is much better in the usual TNF slot
I don't care for the way NBC does Sunday Night football, it's like they don't even watch the games prior to coming on the air and I'm sure some of them DON'T, they're too bust writing or memorizing their script for the night as to what the network and producers want them to say

I’ll just ask this rhetorical question as an answer to why the weather delay happened.

What kind of civil lawsuit payout do you think would be feasible if, God forbid, someone in the stadium was struck by lightning or otherwise adversely affected by weather and the league did not take every possible precaution?

Pardon my run-on sentence.

I think the disclaimer on the ticket states that the purchaser assumes all risks and liabilities when attending the event.

Carter collapses the pocket in the QBs face so he can't step up he has to step back or to the side which is straight into the edge rushers. That type of pressure was virtually non-existent last night. In the first half, Dak had all day, which exposed the Eagles CB2 position, but in the first couple pages of the thread I thought Dallas would be able to move the ball, it wasn't really a surprise to me. Fangio adjusted to get more pressure which helped. As I said in my post above, the weather delay just grinded both offenses to a halt. I'm not making any proclamations about any of the units after last night. Nothing either defense did anything prior to the weather delay that gave any indication that they'd be able to stop the other teams offense.

It's just ridiculous and if they really cared about human lives they wouldn't invite 70,000+ to come drink and then pile into their cars to get home afterwards

I hear you but there is no logic, it's groupthink

Yeah, I get that. I’m not a lawyer and didn’t stay in a Holiday Inn Express last nite, but I have to imagine a lawyer could finnagle a large payout in a civil suit.

Not to mention, the players and team personnel or the Broadcast team/film crews/producers aren’t bound by that “contractual language”.

Also, not to mention, if the NFL didn’t take any precautions and something happened, it would tarnish the shield.

It's a negligence standard. The NFL, the team and the stadium operators have a duty of care to protect spectators from reasonable harm.

All your posts have been laced with humor on this topic, good job

Also, with respect to the Jalen Hurts QB discussion that went on for a few pages at the beginning. Last night was a perfect encapsulation of why Jalen is such a good QB. He can make the throws he needs to, he can kill you with his legs, and he just has a poise about him. He's a winner.
How many throws did he have over 20 yards or even 10 yards? He made all the throws asked of him but I was not a fan of the game call. This is from a guy that fell asleep in the fourth quarter.

That's not really relevant IMO. He made the throws he needed to.

Philly was very fortunate. The good news is this looks like a quick rebuild with 4 1st-rounders in 26/27 and possible playoff contention in year 1 of Schotty (we’ll see in the coming weeks). Whole different vibe with our run D, too. Wonder why?

Turns out ol’ “senile” Jerruh may know a thing or two about a thing or two.
Did we watch the same game?

Where the Eagles had 110 yards in penalties?
Bailed the Cowboys out many times on 3rd down with taunting/RTQB/unnecessary roughing calls?

Same game where our top 5/10 DT got kicked out before a single play from scrimmage?

I’m not sure what this game did to make a single Cowboys think “Jerry did this right”

CD dropped a few balls sure.

Dak averaged 5.5 Yards per attempt.

Might be good passing average for a running back and all but a “real” QB? I dunno
I bet we watched the same game. I think it's reasonable to say the Eagles were fortunate. It's not a particularly unusual opinion.

My biggest takeaway is you guys don't look to be as good as last season or we're a helluva lot better. I'm almost certain of the latter...we'll see about the former.

Lots to be determined yet, but I really like a lot of the moves we've made this offseason, including the Micah trade. I might have to start wearing some shades in a year or two.

Good luck this season.
You better hope it’s not the bolded. Jerry’s 3D chess to get Arch Manning would completely backfire!😂

If you want to see some of those throws check out the Super Bowl highlights. Last night all he needed to do was beat the Cowboys. Mission accomplished.

I can't wait for the week 1 overreaction thread.

So many anomalies occurred in last nights games, to try and draw conclusions is crazy.

Its also a common sense standard - putting aside death and lawyers and small-print waivers and lawsuits. Its best to take cover during a lighting storm.

a pretty good throw from Dak
That was a 100 mph fastball with zero touch.

Y’all being hypercritical on that one.

The long bomb he dropped before that was on lamb. Go back and watch this one again. That was not by any definition “a pretty good throw by Dak”.
The 4th and 3 at the end of the game? I thought the pass was pretty good and it was a tight window he was throwing it into
I've seen Lamb and other WRs make that catch

I watched receivers drop balls from Dak throughout the game
If you say it was a fast ball, you're probably right
I still thought it was a decent throw, some QBs won't even attempt that pass

I went from a 3-point dog to an eight point favorite in my FF matchup because of AJ Brown, so I have no problem with how it played out. But the Eagles could drop a few more games than last year with a different play caller. Again not my concern.

Lamb should have caught that but it was a perfect throw by Dak. Lamb was being grabbed and held - not necessarily quite enough to get a PI but enough to slow Lamb down a step that he had to dive.

I thought Daks worst pass last night was the first one to Ferguson in the end zone. Had he put more into the throw Ferg would have had a better shot.

From Dan Casey:

Excellent Situational Football from the Cowboys
- Complete the Slant- WR get down
- Run the ball to the hash- Hand Ball to CENTER
- Center sets ball, ref touches ball
- Spike & Kick FG

The Cowboys looking like a buttoned-up, well-coached team last night was my takeaway.

I know it was just one game. And Schottenheimer may well be the idiot everyone says, and Jones the senile bafoon people think he is for picking him.

But one team last night looked well-coached and ready. The other did not.

As a Cowboys fan I have to agree completely. All of that earlier talk was just noise to me. He takes what the defense gives him and makes plays when he needs too. Unlike Romo and Dak, who both looked great until the pressure was on. Someone earlier tried to compare stats for Hurts and Aikman. Not possible because play styles are different and rules are different now. But both perform in the clutch.

Yes, smooth operation by the Cowboys last night. And honestly, I think that was the biggest surprise and biggest factor in keeping them close (they shoulda won).

The Boys were uncharacteristically smooth managing the clock, which I’ve always thought was a weakness in Dak’s game.

Philly looked undisciplined and reactive, rather than setting the tone in the game. That’ll change, or they’ll be an easy out in the playoffs.

From Dan Casey:

Excellent Situational Football from the Cowboys
- Complete the Slant- WR get down
- Run the ball to the hash- Hand Ball to CENTER
- Center sets ball, ref touches ball
- Spike & Kick FG

The Cowboys looking like a buttoned-up, well-coached team last night was my takeaway.

I know it was just one game. And Schottenheimer may well be the idiot everyone says, and Jones the senile bafoon people think he is for picking him.

Agree. Philly D let Dallas get in their heads, showed their youth last night. Need to grow up and play with more discipline.

And I thnk they will. It's easy to make the case this was a great thing for Eagles. Still got the win but a good wake up call.

Dak playing chess last night. Carter playing checkers.

Defending Dak's classlessness isn't a good look.

Nothing to defend.
Dak spit on the ground and gave a guy like Carter enough rope to do something so ridiculously stupid to get himself ejected.
Both players acted very classless. Jalen more so.
Dak played Carter like a fiddle, that's gamesmanship. Carter being a dope and responding like he did is just dumb, plain and simple.

He definitely did. I wonder if its something Dak will try to do all season long with other teams.

Depends if the other team has known dope or not.

I kind of doubt he'd do it again. That's one of those things you save for someone special.

You might be right. Probably won't be worth to try it again when they play the Eagles in November

It takes a special kind of personality to spit on someone with refs right there and cameras at every angle. Not necessarily stupid (or just stupid) but rash, immature and lacking in impulse control.

Now that this tape is out and the narrative for the week is going to focus on this incident above and beyond other stories until the next thing happens, even the most incendiary hotheads will rein themselves in and keep from reacting like that.

This was lightning in a bottle. Dak wasn’t trying to get Carter ejected, but he had to be thrilled that he got so deep under his skin.

If Dak is still healthy for that game, Jalen will be playing like Charles Jefferson from Ridgemont High.

Also, with respect to the Jalen Hurts QB discussion that went on for a few pages at the beginning. Last night was a perfect encapsulation of why Jalen is such a good QB. He can make the throws he needs to, he can kill you with his legs, and he just has a poise about him. He's a winner.
I am sure some here dislike Nick Wright, but I agree with his take on Hurts, which is basically the bolded:

Is he a great passer? No.

Is he a great QB? Yes.

I think some people forget that while he might not be Lamar Jackson, running is a big part of Hurts' game (even if you do not count the tush pushes).

But then you go look at stats and other than volume passing numbers, the efficiencies look like this:

From last year

Comp % 8th
YPA 4th
QB Rating 5th

For Comparison, and I know he got injured, but before injury this is where Dak (the presumed better "passer")

Comp %: 22nd
YPA: 24th
QB Raing: 27th

Even look at the stats last night, other than more passing yards, Jalen Hurts had a better passing metric than all of Dak's

Its an interesting narrative that I guess will never die until he tosses 30+ TDs and even then you get critics that go "SUPERTEAM DUH" to excuse the success

The one thing I was really upset was I REALLY wanted to see Tyler Booker vs JC98

Guess we wait

You didn't see the video? He didnt spit on the ground, He looked Carter in the face, spit in his direction, then gave a cheezy grin and nodded. He absolutely taunted Carter. Not excusing Carters response...ejection was proper/warranted, but it should have never gone that far. Lost a ton of respect for Prescott
