The game was over when Amik Robinson left the game. He was the last bandaid holding the defense together. We had no one left on the OL who could get to the QB, and without the ability to man cover the blitz were a disaster too. The secondary had too many players who should not be on the field.
Also, Washington was good all game.
Washington played great and deserved to win. But what
@jon_mx said is true. It was going to be tough enough with Amik Robertson but when he went out the defense had no chance at all.
When we lost Carlton Davis, Amik moved from slot to the outside and he played the best football of his life. He was sticky in coverage so he could play press man, which is a must given that the Lions had to blitz so much. Amik also was physical, could tackle, and was very good in run defense. He was replaced by Kindle Vildor, who can't cover so he can't play man, and he can't tackle. I think most Lions fans knew we were done but we always hold out some hope.
The Lions had so many injuries to their defensive line that they pretty much had to blitz. Given that, you need corners that can cover or you are doomed. The blitz rarely got there and part of it was the greatness of Daniels and part was because receivers were wide open.
Even if Amik wasn't hurt, we still might have lost but we would have had a chance, might have gotten an extra stop or two, maybe made a play or two. But once he got hurt, we had no chance.
I give Washington all the credit in the world. They did what you're supposed to do: take advantage of opponents weaknesses. They played great and we played bad.
