5th Annual FBG Chess Tournament- Congratulations to Otello, 1st place with 5.5 points! (5 wins, one draw) (1 Viewer)

Hope everything is OK.
ACL replacement.  So far so good.  As long as no infection (fingers crossed!) he's in for a long recovery, but will be ok.

Been a long day, but we've started and are now in the "hopelessly interlocked" stage.

Pav defeats ragincajun.

Sorry to hear about your kid, Sand. Hope everything went ok.

@nysfl2 - for some reason I can't get in to the app - telling me Error communicating with chess server. I'll move as soon as I can get back in to the app.

Anybody else having a problem?  What's weird is I've gotten 3 notifications that it's my move but it won't let me in.

Restart phone?  Worse case uninstall the app and reinstall.

Thanks - I was about to do that.  I've used the app a long time and that happens from time to time but it's usually temporary- this was about 10-15 minutes so I wasn't sure if their servers were down - since I got the notifications  I assumed that wasn't what it was.  Oh well - carry on.

I "won" against Kutta, but it was more that he thought a rook for a pawn was a good trade.  Other than that, the match was in the middle game and tight.

Yeah, I made a pretty big blunder. Good game up until then.

:shrug:

You might have noticed that I'm not very active during the work day. I didn't even notice that you hadn't moved.

1. d4 e6 2. c4 f5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. g3 d5 5. Bg2 c6 6. Nf3 Bd6 7. c5 $6 {This is
playable, but probably not the most accurate. I prefer to keep the tension in
the center.} (7. Bf4 Bxf4 8. gxf4 Nbd7 9. e3 O-O 10. Ne5 Nxe5 11. fxe5 Ne4 12.
Bxe4 fxe4 13. Qg4 {and White can try for a caveman attack, although g7 is
generally easy to defend.}) 7... Bc7 8. O-O O-O 9. Bf4 Bxf4 10. gxf4 Ne4 {
A typical maneuver in the Stonewall. Black would move to open the f-file.} 11.
Qc2 Nd7 (11... b6 {is also worth a try with the idea of developing the
light-squared bishop to a6.}) 12. b4 {A fine plan for White. He has more
mobility on the queenside,.} Ndf6 $6 {Probably inaccurate. Black's general
plan is to trade off all of the knights in this structure, so staying on d7 to
exchange on e5 is the right idea. Black should play b6 and Ba6 mentioned
previously.} 13. h3 (13. a4 $1 {White should continue what he started.}) 13...
h6 (13... Kh8 {with the idea of Rg8 and g5 is the other plan I heavily
considered.}) (13... Bd7 {with the typical Stonewall maneuver Be8-h5 is plan
#3. I think either of these is better than the game move.}) 14. e3 Nxc3 15.
Qxc3 Ne4 16. Qc2 Bd7 {Now going for the maneuver.} 17. a4 {White is back on
the right path.} Be8 18. Kh2 g5 19. Rh1 (19. fxg5 hxg5 20. Ne5) 19... gxf4 {
I decide the doubled isolated pawns gives me a long-term advantage and cash in.
Black's pieces can get to the kingside quickly now.} 20. exf4 Bh5 {Now Black
is ready to exchange on f3 and bring the queen in to h4, forking the weak
pawns.} 21. Rhg1 Kh8 22. Ne5 Qh4 23. f3 $4 {A game-losing blunder.} ({I
expected} 23. Bxe4 Qxf4+ 24. Rg3 fxe4 {when White is still in the game.}) 23...
Qg3+ ({I missed the nice mate in 4, but already saw that I was winning the
queen.} 23... Qxf4+ 24. Kh1 Ng3+ 25. Kh2 Nf1+ 26. Kh1 Qh2#) 24. Kh1 Nf2+ {
White resigns.} 0-1
