Chess Tournament 2025- Black Crowes and Nick Vermeil co-champions! (1 Viewer)

@Captain Cranks I tried to invite you but Chesstime doesn't seem to know you by "Captain Cranks". I'll wait for your invite.
I'm Cranks on ChessTime. I think you're still a friend from our last game. Let me get it set up.
Ok I didn't know.

Probably moot now but @timschochet should add "(Cranks)" to the first post so dolts like me can figure it out.
Done thanks. I had it before but got rid of it at some point for no good reason.

Sand defeats scoobus. Tense game until his queen got pinned.

Funny enough I talked about no blunders, then when walking to a meeting I made move one. To my shock when I looked back I see my d4 opening was actually e4. Sooooo, can you blunder move 1 as white? :lmao:

It's funny how different perspectives can be, I thought he controlled the game thoroughly from the beginning. Had a chance to sack my bishop to create some problems for him, but didn't pull the trigger.

Also, is losing your queen bad?

Woz beats Murph in another well played game. Was able to convert a pawn advantage after fending off a pretty impressive counterattack due to his positional compensation for the pawn.

Really, really strong play in this tournament this year!

E4 is the “engine move.” :lmao:

Let me tell you it's a pretty crappy engine...

Hey guys and @BlackCrowes. Sorry to say my father passed away this morning. It was a long time coming unfortunately. I won't be able to start until tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

Hey Nick, just lurking here and wanted to send my condolences regarding your father's passing. I hope this finds you doing okay. Peace, man.
me too best wishes and my condolences

I think it’s just my match with @AAABatteries remaining in round 5, yes? I think he’s scared of me. We’re just getting into the middle game and he’s been MIA for two days. (Hope all is well on your end, GB.)

I think Vermeil and Crowes are still playing (unless I missed their result).

And Shuke and Brownsfan.

If anyone ever wants to see up to date results it’s always in the OP.

if you land a chute you have to move your guy back a bunch of spaces take that to the bank brochachos

I have to apologize to @Sand. My goal in these tournaments is for every player to have 3 games as white and 3 as black. I usually come close to making that happen but there is always one or two slip ups and I don’t learn it until the last round when it is too late. This time Sand ended up with only 2 games as white and 4 as black. Sorry about that.

With my level of play that's the least of my worries, GB. I appreciate you putting this on.

And for the record, @Sand can consistently kick my butt when we place chess games outside of this tourney.

Then again, he's not the only one; @scoobus defeats tri-man.

I played poorly in the opening and fought back reasonably well. But he was patient enough to let me get some false hope before finally unleashing a final attack and crushing me. I just couldn't free up a couple of moves to castle my king to relative safety.

It was a really fun tournament again, even if I did get routinely spanked.

@Nick Vermeil got me 0-1. Was on the attack from the start and never let up. Very well played! And he’s got 5 points (I end up with 4) so great job in the tournament.
Once again I feel saved by a resignation. I had your queen but you were up in pieces. Was a fun game. Decisions became difficult really early.
I resigned because my position was hopeless and I wasn’t going to win unless you made a major blunder. I don’t enjoy winning like that.

Black Crowes and I are well into our game and are near the end game. Dead even in material and positions both seem pretty even. @BlackCrowes I start a big golf tournament tomorrow so my pace of play may really slow and I don't want to play after consuming the copious amounts of whisky I intend to consume.

Fr the tournament, given the outcome of Tim and Nick, am I understanding correctly that I tie with Nick if I win, but a loss to Black Crowes or a tie means Black Crowes is the champ?

I can respect a good whiskey golf tournament. No hurry. Not positive but I think I win with a win or tie

Good game so far. You’ve had a slight positional advantage but I’ve managed to hang on.

Actually a correction:

1. If Black Crowes beats Zow, Black Crowes is the tournament champion.

2. If Zow beats Black Crowes, Zow and Nick Vermeil are tied as tournament champions.

3. If Zow and Black Crowes draw, Black Crowes and Nick Vermeil are tied as tournament champions.

Take your time Zow. Easy on the whiskey. Maybe have someone confiscate your phone.

Haha I honestly plan on it.

Just a practice round today so won’t be having too much. But if the chess match bleeds into Thursday I will resist making moves at a certain point.

But really, aren’t we all winners in this friendly tournament?

(Says the four loss guy)
