6th annual FBG Chess tournament- Kutta 1st place winner! (2 Viewers)

@Aerial Assault

@Hastur

Any closer, gentlemen?
I'm guessing we are on vastly different schedules.  I can make a move in the morning before work, but then I do not have access until I get home aournd 5:30.  From 5:30 until almost 10 I am free to play.

Tim, we are getting close.  I can almost guarantee Aerial will win.  If you want to set up the next round, I would not be insulted.

Of course not. We’ll wait.

Draw agreed between Kutta and Tim. Very good game.

Kutta ends up with 5.5 points out of 6. 1st place and winner! Great job!!

Thanks! Good times and my first time winning this thing.

GG - intersting line in the Queen's Gambit.

@Nick Vermeil and I are currently playing.  Funny thing is he messaged me to warn me he'd be in and out of it due to holiday travel.  In contrast to several of my other prior games I have been around and completely sober for this match.  And I'm playing my worst game with several mistakes made early. 🤦‍♂️

so point totals?  wondering whether I made top 1/2?  It's better to compete & lose than not compete unless it's a hand grenade contest.

by the way thanks to timmy.

Woz with a surprise resignation. Although I was kind of taking it to him, he clearly is unaware of my horrible endgame play. I’m not sure I had a clear path to the win. gg Gb.

This was my best tourney by a long shot. 3 wins, 2 embarrassment losses and a third loss that I probably should have won but for the aforementioned endgame weakness.

Thanks tim. Thanks for playing everybody.

Well, I saw one, but I was seeing the board horribly that entire game so even if I was wrong it's a fitting ending :lmao:

AAA defeats scoobus

We had a really good and dead even battle going and he made one mistake he wasn’t able to recover from - that’s my move, I STOP SHORT!!

3 wins 3 losses.  I'm pleased.

Thanks Tim for doing this & being patient with me until I got the chesstime app on my phone.

0 and 6. Oof.

I've always liked chess and did ok playing friends, etc.  A few years ago I researched chess books and bought several. I have flipped through them here and there but never really hunkered down and studied them.

Well this was an eye opener. I'm playing with the idea of working thru a few and blog about just as a learning experiment.

Thanks Tim for organizing and managing. I had a good time and it knocked me down a few pegs. I mean that in a good way.

You probably just need to practice tactics. I would suggest getting the Lichess app (it’s free) and playing 5 minute blitz games whenever you have the chance. It will improve your tactical skills pretty quickly.

Do you have a final tally tim or are there games still in play?

What sort of drama occurred in the past?
The incident I remember most was a poster who I won't name who was absolutely terrible when playing several of us before the tournament started.  He played at like a 2nd grade level.  He knew how the pieces moved but that was about it.  Then, after being destroyed in the first few rounds, he suddenly, magically, became an awesome, mistake-free player.  It was obvious he was using the help of a computer program to make his moves.
