7.1.20 - Please Be Cool To Each Other (1 Viewer)

I think it's pretty clear everyone is tired and way more on edge than normal. And most of the reasons are pretty obvious. 2020 has been a challenge.

I apologize for being short with folks yesterday here. I had some things I was juggling but that's no excuse. I should have let things slide that I didn't. I'm sorry.

In a related note, I should step back away from much of my posting. I'm not going anywhere and not mad at anyone. And I know folks in the past have been critical if I'm not around as much (as well as being around too much ;)  ) but wanted to give a headsup so nobody wondered if something was up. Nothing up. Just busy. I'll still post a little.

I'm not going anywhere so please PM me if you need something. And the moderators will be here as always so please continue to help us by using the report button whenever you see something clearly over the line. But also, please be respectful of the moderator's time and make sure it's clearly over the line.

And mainly, the message is the same one I know you get tired of me saying but I keep saying it: Please be cool to each other. Please try to be empathetic and see the other side. Try to understand before being understood (HT Stephen Covey). Please don't troll the other side. Please don't call public people negative names, even if you think they're accurate. And basically just be excellent to each other.

Thanks.

I really don't understand this stance.....at all. If you're a public figure, especially the president of the country, I fully expect that individual to be/will be called out for exactly who and what they are. An honest assessment of that individuals character is critical to the further advancement of our nation as the leader of the free world. It's also critical to the honest debate so heavily desired here in the forums.

I understand it's your board and your rules. I just don't agree with this particular stance. It's counterproductive to honest conversation. I believe it's the one thing you get completely wrong with regards to moderation.

My 2 cents.

I think the idea is to criticize the specific behavior instead of just calling the person a moron or idiot or whatever.  The latter is more likely to result in an ugly back and forth between posters.

I believe folks have stated their reasoning and cited/criticized specific behaviour which culminated in them declaring the president a moron and an idiot, in the same post......and still have been suspended. My intention is not to get into a back and forth on this. I just wanted Joe to hear/read my thoughts on his stance. I don't need a reply from him.

Nothing good comes out of calling someone a moron whether it's a poster or a public figure.  Just criticize their actions, it's pretty simple really.
