I'm surprised there haven't been any Flaming Lips or Bjork records mentioned. I'd probably also put a Will Oldham record in my list if I did it again. Days in the Wake, Lost Blues and Other Songs or I See a Darkness. All brilliant. Not to mention Viva Last Blues. Some really great stuff was done in the '90s.
The Soft Bulletin made my 7 on page 1---love that album and the associated live tour for that album was fantastic.

I'm seeing a Will Oldham show next week---first time ever seeing him live. Pretty psyched about it.

The Chronic

Illmatic

Violent Femmes was actually 83.

I listen to this album weekly - with hindsight this entire performance is incredible. The next to last public appearance with AIC. You feel his emotion, his pain, and see that he is trapped. Nutshell, Rooster, Over Now are expressions of his life and he sings them with such power.

It is a shame that Cobain's suicide overshadowed AIC as Layne was the superior singer and AIC was the much better band.

All these reasons and many others are why this is my favorite album - enjoy

Nutshell
