80s Genre/Categories Mixtape Draft - Draft Underway (1 Viewer)

10. 6 One Hit Wonder -- Baltimora, Tarzan Boy

definitely the decade I danced... my 14 year old daughter plays keyboard (and a little guitar) and loves this son. It better without video. ;)
omg. I disagree. the choreography is all kinds of awesome.
Videos should essentially be a requirement when available. Omigod, This is the '80s, for god's sake.
Fixed
Fer sherr

Wait. We're talking not repeating any artist from anyone's draft? I know it's not a rule, it's just honorable, but I thought we were talking not repeating an artist on our own lists :bag:

I WILL be around today to catch up. I've been too busy for this and hate my draft so far, and want to change a couple picks despite being so far behind. For the sake of not shotgunning and because... I'll do it one song at a time. Definitely on the short list of favorite 80s bands. Not their best jam, but so 80s.

9.14 Indie/Alternative -- Jesus and Mary Chain, Happy When it rains
I am doing that for ####s and giggles just to make it more challenging. My favorite Jesus and Mary Chain tune is Head On - and considered picking it but someone chose (I think) Just Like Honey early on so it won't be showing up on my list

As much as it pains me because I think it is an all time great song, I need to throw back Separate Ways because it's too popular for the mix I'm putting together.

In it's place, I'm going to put a Silly/Funny/Weird selection. I give you...

4.8 (Repick) Hooked On Polkas, Weird Al (Silly/Funny/Weird).

There are only live versions available on Youtube, but the album version is on Spotify. The good thing is that this song is a melody of a lot of great 80's tunes, so that's a win.

This is the song that I dressed up and lip synced to at my high school's battle of the bands (as in between sets "entertainment"). Good times...gooooood times.

Lotta typos in my little post. I meant THE video, which is a little creepy. The live dance I posted is maybe not all kinds of awesome but much better.

Bah. I thought they'd been overlooked and with a half dozen to make up wanted to grab them before the fell. I like the no band twice approach.

fwiw- I took Just Like Honey for 1st song off 1st album early on.

Yeah, I was going to pick Rebel Yell for Title track but someone took Dancing with Myself. I think Acer has sniped 3-4 bands that I was going to use.

So, what are using as the definition of 1 hit Wonder? The song I want to choose is from a very successful band - but it is the only song of theirs to break into the top 40 mainstream US charts.

US Billboard Top 40 (pop charts) is the normal convention, but I don't think we defined it here.

That's ultimately what had me throw back Joy Division... I wasn't using the pop charts.

I have no idea what round we're in here.

Anyway. Having category decisionitis going fwd, so I want to go bkwd. Andy asked w/o an answer. Is it ok to change a pick? I think it improves the draft, personally. Especially if the change is far from a snipe.

I wanted to do that and not take Tarzan, but there it was in the top 40 and mostly Italian. :)

Authoritative source
I'm ashamed to admit there are several I can't recall by name/song title. But considering how many turkeys there are in there, maybe I shouldn't be.

I think we are making all choices/redos up to round 15. 1st come, 1st served.

15.xx Temptation - New Order (indie/alternative)

Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home

This thread got Weird Al'd and none of you said anything.

I'm starting to question the commitment of all of you to Sparkle Motion.
I'm glad you took a polka and not a parody, I was considering that myself. A good choice too, you get a little Sledgehammer with that one.

ETA - Never mind, that's "Polka Party"

Yeah you can change, just post here and update google doc
Thanks. I wanted some X but the Wild Thing cover was a running out the door pick something fast thing. I'll do all my updating on the google doc so don't do it for me. I just may not get around to it until after lunch.

5.14 Cover -- The Sundays, Wild Horses

She calms me. I like it better than the original.
