90% chance of Rain in Pit/NYJ Game (1 Viewer)

Not that many people were starting a whole lot of Jets offensive players in this game, but Pittsburgh has been a goldmine for fantasy stats. FWP is not your typical "mudder" type runner, but you really cannot consider benching him vs the Jets. What about the Pit passing game? Do you conisder benching Ben if you have a semi-reliable alternative? Hines? Holmes? The passing game flourished in bad conditions vs Baltimore, but 90% chance of rain definitely *could* impact the offensive production in this game, and lead to extra turnovers.

Do you drop Big Ben down a few notches?

It makes almost no difference. It's not going to be a driving rain with a lot of wind.

I have an additional question.... How do you think this will affect the return game for NYJ? I was considering starting Leon Washington because my league is set up for 1 pt per 25 yards returning and I have noticed that the Steelers have been weak in covering returns. So would the weather favor the return game or the coverage?

Didn't Roethlisberger toss 5 TDs in the rain against BAL a few weeks ago on MNF? All in the 1st half no less.

Did you watch the Steelers-Ravens game two weeks ago? Roethlisberger threw for 5 TDs in the 1st half and it was a friggin' monsoon (I know cause I was sitting in it). I don't think the rain will be much of an issue -- the bigger factor is the Jets crappy run defense. If the Steelers are smart they just keep the ball on the ground.

Just tell me this isn't "London" style rain and field conditions that kill both offenses. I am going with Ben and Holmes in one league, and Cotchery in another.

I've learned not to worry about the weather unless it's a monsoon (or London). By way of example, it was pouring down here in Seattle yesterday and the prediction was a low scoring game between Washington and Cal. Final score? 37-23. Granted, lots of running, not much passing. But don't read too much into it unless we're talking major impact.

Yeah, kind of need to know this before we make any tweaks. Football players know how to play in the rain, and in fact if it's just enough rain to get the field slippery (without accompanying winds or a soaked ball) it will help the offense.

don't put the cart before the horse here. start big Ben, start, holmes, ward, FWP, etc.its a 9.5 spread and a high over/under in Vegas lines..I wouldn't worry about low scoring.

I don't live far from the Meadowlands. It's rainy, but hardly a monsoon. Will probably get pretty chilly by gametime, but I don't think the weather should affect your lineups in this one. Santonio stays in for me.

I'm not sure how gusty the winds will be in this venue today, but it is definitely worth noting that the Meadowlands (when the Jets play there, like today) is notorious for shifting, swirling winds in the fall. Passing and kicking games could be adversely affected if the wind is much above 15 mph or so...

my .02

Busman's accuweather link says the winds will be negligible, though. Click on it.

I'm actually starting 3 steelers this week :goodposting:
Me too. Roeth, Parker & Holmes. Just like in the last game against the Ravens in the rain my concern was Parker and it would be the same should it rain for this game. Hardly scientific here but in my experience passing is usually unaffected and sometimes enhanced with the rain. The running game usually suffers. Guys like Parker who are shifty backs, don't have traction. DBacks can't recover as quickly in the passing game and tend to get burned. If anything, I will reconsider Parker for this game.

it's a chilly , cold rain... almost ice.

the tempature dropped about 10 degrees since this morning.....

not too windy though but could lend to some drops.
