______ Passed Away Today, RIP (17 Viewers)

Worked on Preacher’s Wife.  Always liked going to her office on the Universal lot, where she had the original Zoltaire machine from Big.  Didn’t get to know her well, but she was extremely mellow and soft spoken.  Had incredible respect for her.  She directed friggin’ Big! And growing up, my dad reminded me of John Ritter and my mom reminded me of Laverne.

RIP
And her "Awakenings" was one of the best jobs of storytelling i've ever seen onscreen. The three principals (Miss Marshall, Robin Williams and DeNiro) were big parts of the cocaine club that got scared out of that life when Belushi 'sploded, and that kinship worked in such a beautifully weird way for this movie. As she told:

Robin.....was afraid Bobby was going to blow him off the screen. I said, ‘I won’t let that happen.’ So it was my job to keep Robin from being funny. We had a shorthand signal for when he got a little flamboyant, improvising.” She curled her fingers tight and dropped the fist to her groin: “It meant ‘More balls.’

I'm guessing most of the posters around here have seen Big and A League of Their Own more times than they can count.  Not too many movie moments are more iconic than the floor piano dance and "there's no crying in baseball!"
Forgot she directed Big

"Avoid the clap.  Jimmy Dugan"

I reckon TCM will have to update it's In Memorium piece again.  She's important.

If your babysitter reminded you of Suzanne Somers, you were all set.

Mean Gene was great. He "sold" the sport with such guileless sincerity. I believed every word he said when I was 8 years old.
Iron Shiek has been saying nice things on Twitter. He was as much of the environment and performance as the wrestlers.

What a horrible day. Bob would tell the same stories on every podcast he was a guest on but always made me laugh every time

Bob Einstein was the best story-joke teller of all time and Steve Martin's divining rod to absurdist humor. Almost everyone who's been funny owes a debt. RIP -

ETA: Also, the first and possibly best guest on Norm MacDonald Live

How tf does one not just bust out laughing while conducting this interview?

I can't even find the trace of a smile. Best straight man in pro wrestling ever.

This is the most bummed I've been about a famous person dying, I think.

If stupid HW got flags at half-staff for a month, SDO should be at least a year. Not joking.

Man, did this even send me down the nostalgia rabbit hole. Stephenson passed away almost 27 years ago -- had no idea.
I hadn't thought about him or Dr Hook really since that time. When Sawyer's obit popped up I was reminded of that really random experience.
