Aw, crap. What a talent.Laverne.. Penny Marshall at 75. RIP ☹
And her "Awakenings" was one of the best jobs of storytelling i've ever seen onscreen. The three principals (Miss Marshall, Robin Williams and DeNiro) were big parts of the cocaine club that got scared out of that life when Belushi 'sploded, and that kinship worked in such a beautifully weird way for this movie. As she told:Worked on Preacher’s Wife. Always liked going to her office on the Universal lot, where she had the original Zoltaire machine from Big. Didn’t get to know her well, but she was extremely mellow and soft spoken. Had incredible respect for her. She directed friggin’ Big! And growing up, my dad reminded me of John Ritter and my mom reminded me of Laverne.
RIP
Robin.....was afraid Bobby was going to blow him off the screen. I said, ‘I won’t let that happen.’ So it was my job to keep Robin from being funny. We had a shorthand signal for when he got a little flamboyant, improvising.” She curled her fingers tight and dropped the fist to her groin: “It meant ‘More balls.’
Forgot she directed BigI'm guessing most of the posters around here have seen Big and A League of Their Own more times than they can count. Not too many movie moments are more iconic than the floor piano dance and "there's no crying in baseball!"

I reckon TCM will have to update it's In Memorium piece again. She's important.

Might make you go blind but it takes a long time to kill you.
Or maybe Loni Anderson? If your babysitter reminded you of Suzanne Somers, you were all set.
I had forgotten she was married to Rob Reiner. That is an amazing pairing of comedic talent and directors of some of my all time favorite movies - Big, A League of Their Own, The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally.Laverne.. Penny Marshall at 75. RIP ☹
Mean Gene was great. He "sold" the sport with such guileless sincerity. I believed every word he said when I was 8 years old.Turned bald at 30 15.

Funny, funny guy. Dammit ...going to have to listen to his old Norm podcast today.

my dad worked with Dr Hook back in the late 70's, along with a few other musical artists, on the business side. i recall going to an arena-sized show where Hook was playing. the opening act was Skip Stevenson, from the show "Real People", who was dressed as Peter Pan for some reason. He was bombing and booed mercilessly by the crowd.badmojo1006 said:
