A lesson of 2006: Beware the aging QB in a good situation (1 Viewer)

In general, taking the vet QB strictly because of situation and ignoring his actual level of play has been disastrous this year:

Kurt Warner - How could he fail with Boldin and Fitz?

Aaron Brooks - How could he fail with Randy Moss?

Drew Bledsoe - How could he fail with TO?

Answer: The same way these guys always fail (with an asterisk for Brooks because he got hurt too)

Only Jon Kitna has paid off among QBs with this scenario entering the year (How could he fail in Martz's system?), and he had the lowest ADP of these 4 by far.

What about Brad Johnson? He's done fairly well and the Vikings are better off without C-Pep. He hasn't been stellar at fantasy, but he has been a winner for the Vikings franchise. He seems to have good leadership abilities where Culpepper had little to none.

Warner - Brooks - Bledsoe - McNair - Favre - Johnson - Kitna - Burnell - I'd say the 25% success rate is spot on.

These three have one thing in common. The most important thing in whether a qb succeeds or fails. What is it?

Mobility!Edit to add: Well, lack of mobility.

Charlie Frye, Alex Smith, and David Carr also have poor offensive lines, but they have more than justified their ADPs... I wouldn't say Kitna has a great line either. I do think that combining the two factors is a better indicator - poor offensive line + no mobility = fantasy value killer. Brooks is a little tougher, but he got hurt, and is playing on a team that looked like they had quit.

Agree. Kurt Warner = awful offensive line, zero mobility, thumb issues appear to hamper ability to hold onto the ballDrew Bledsoe = poor offensive line, statuary mobility, penchant for back-breaking throws under pressure Aaron Brooks = awful offensive line, below average accuracy, impressive portfolio of originality in his bonehead plays under pressure
