a Pacman trade? (1 Viewer)

From today's Nashville City Paper:

"Trade talks remain between the two sides (Cowboys and Titans), but appear to have been put on the back burner as both teams are now in full draft preparation mode.

There also is the possibility that the New England Patriots could still jump into the fray. According to sources, the Pats have contacted the Titans about Jones behind the scenes, but have yet to enter into any formal negotiations. That is something that could materialize near draft time, depending on what happens with talks with the Cowboys.

For now, though, as the one-year anniversary (of his suspension) arrives, Jones remains a Titan and remains in limbo. For how much longer, no one can seem to say for certain".

Any Pacman deal is far from imminent at this point.

Taking this guy on would be a high risk. I couldn't tell you one way or another from sitting in my shoes, I'd have to have some serious sit down time and talk to the guy and get an impression.
once or maybe even twice I can see giving the benefit of the doubt, but this guy´s reputation precedes him. Do you really need to sit down with him? What could he possibly say that would convince you he´s turned around?

If Dallas had acted like every other team it would have sent a message to all current and future players to keep their act clean. Now they all know they can find a home in Big D. It will be business as usual in the NFL.

Really no different then the Washington Redskins when they signed Jerome Mathis after he was cut for choking out his pregnant girlfriend or Tampa Bay for signing Jerramy Stevens last year. Your living in a dream world if a player has talent he will be given extra chances.

I guess I live in the same dream world as 31 NFL teams.

From what I'm hearing, the Patriots still have no interest in Pacman Jones and are making no effort to pursue him.

Dallas does not have this guy yet and may not. Get your Dallas hater glasses off and look at the entire league. If Dallas is so terrible for merely looking at acquiring Jones what about a Baltimore team that kept Ray Lewis or even a St.Louis squad and the DUI guy?

Let's be fair ... Leondard Little isn't DUI Guy. He is DUI Vehicular Manslaughter Guy.Not to mention he's also the single biggest blight upon the NFL that goes willfully unnoticed by the media. Kill a few dogs and the media crucify you & the league disowns you ... kill a woman in a drunk driving accident and you can continue to make millions of dollars.

The red zone is too slow. I'm usually a day ahead of them, much like ESPN.What I post on the footballguys news page shows up on ESPN the next day in many cases.

I thought a deal was imminent? (Sarcasm intended)

I'll say it again - the trade isn't going to happen just b/c Cowboy fans want it to. The LEAST desirable outcome for Tennessee would be to trade him right now. Why? B/c if he's reinstated then (1) the price in a trade goes up or (2) they keep him and have a top CB and KR. If he's not reinstated, the trade market disappears but the leverage to get back some of the guaranteed money increases significantly.

If Jones is fit to play in the league, then he's fit to play in Tennessee. They aren't just going to give him away for pennies on the dollar to remove the headache.

The Pacman stalemate will not change the Cowboys approach to the draft in any way. They will go into the draft with CB remaining a priority.

When asked if acquiring Pacman would be considered a bonus or a solution, Jerry Jones replied "neither. It would be a luxury".

Depending on how the draft falls or plays out, a CB could very well be selected at #22 if the right player is there.

I have ditched this thread for a couple days to let the piss go through the pool filters. It seems as if the filters are clogged.

The fans wanting or not wanting it to go thru was never quoted as a reason by any source.

"If Jones is fit to play in the league, then he's fit to play in Tennessee."I think that is the point. He has proven that he has a hard time being able to play in the league without being suspended.Chris Henry (probably as talented at WR as Pacman is at corner) was just released for being a headache. And as far as pennies on the dollar it was just last year that Randy Moss was traded for a 4th round pick but Pacman deserves a 4th and a 5th? I admit Moss wasn't coming off of a great season but he had proven to be one of the best WRs in the league and he was still in the league.

This was posted Sunday Morning....

Cowboys considerably closer to deal for Pacman Jones

By Adam Schefter | NFL Network

The on-and-off trade talks between Dallas and Tennessee are on again, in a big way.

The Cowboys and Titans spent Saturday going back and forth on proposals, getting considerably closer to a trade that would send talented, but troubled, cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones to Dallas.

One person familiar with the talks said they were nearing a deal, but it was not done yet. However, it now sounds as if it could be done this week, well before the April 26-27 draft.

Just last week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said talks were at a standstill, but those talks were quickly jumpstarted over the weekend with a series of phone calls between the two teams.

Dallas had been offering one of their two sixth-round picks.

Tennessee has been holding out, refusing to budge for anything less than a fourth-round pick. Plus, Dallas wanted to attach conditions to the trade in which it could receive a draft pick back from Tennessee if Jones got into more trouble in his new city.

Now, the two sides are nearing compromise. The deal could be completed by Tuesday, which also happens to be the time that Jones' agent, Manny Arora, said Jones plans to apply for reinstatement to the NFL. It was one year ago this past week that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Jones.

Goodell plans to review whether to reinstate Jones shortly before training camp, however Arora is likely to push for an even quicker decision.

Should the trade become official, it would not change Dallas' draft strategy in any way. The Cowboys would proceed as if they did not have Jones, as if they still had a need at cornerback, knowing they could not count on Jones to be reinstated.

Through this whole thing I have heard the offer is a 6th round pick, a 6th round pick and a player, a 4th round pick and now the rumor has it back to a 6th round pick. If the trade goes down it will be interesting to see what the offer actually is.

That was obviously a dumb trade, though, so.

If I'm the Titans, I'm thinking I prefer getting the 6th straight out vs. giving a pick back to Dallas if when he gets in more trouble.

As I said in another thread, this deal is far from dead like some already had conceded. Jerry Jones will get Pacman one way or another, whether he ups the ante as is being reported or Tennessee takes the offer being given. This is a poker game right now and Jerry Jones wants this done so he can move on with the draft.

COWBOYS UP THE ANTE FOR PACMAN

Posted by Mike Florio on April 14, 2008, 4:36 p.m. profootballtalk.com

As reports and rumors fly of the long-awaited trade between the Titans and the Cowboys for cornerback Pacman Jones, Terry McCormick of the Nashville City Paper reports that the ‘Boys have increased their offer for Jones, who remains on suspension more than a year after being booted from the league.

Per McCormick, the new offer is “significantly more” than the late-round pick (reportedly a sixth-rounder) that the Cowboys previously put on the table.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reported on Sunday that a deal could be done as soon as Tuesday.

This is a DONE deal...JJ wanted Pacman badly (it showed) and he eventually got him...
I missed that part of the post! How pathetic do you have to be to want someone of Pacman's character badly?
Speaks volumes about JJ...The Cowboys ARE the garbage disposal of the NFL.
Cant really blame jerry. Get a first round talent for a late pick and since TO and Tank have been nothing but model citizens in dallas how can you blame him?

Kevin Titus, Burlington, N.J.: NFL Network is reporting that on Tuesday the Cowboys and Titans will complete the Pacman Jones trade. Dallas will send a sixth-round pick for Adam Jones. I think this is a bad move for a number of reasons. First he will apply to be reinstated to the league on Tuesday, but the commissioner is saying he will not make a decision until just prior to training camp. So what happens if he doesn't get reinstated, do we get an additional pick next year? Also, Pacman is due bonus money before camp starts. So why pay a guy a penny that has not played a down in football in more than a year? He's got to have a lot of rust.

Mickey: Good questions. I think it's being reported the deal could go down as soon as Tuesday, but it's our understanding the talks just started heating up again. So if the Cowboys should give up this year's sixth, which by the way is the first pick in the sixth since the Cowboys and Dolphins swapped places as part of the Jason Ferguson deal, they would give it up, no matter what. Now as part of the trade, they could always make it a conditional sixth for 2009, meaning if Pacman plays this year the Titans get the pick and if he doesn't it's a wash. And as for the bonus money owed, the Cowboys would almost assuredly sign him to a new deal to avoid any bonus money payment. If anything is due, it should come from the Titans.

Why are the Titans in such a hurry to trade Pacman?

Seems like they would get more for him after his reinstatement, I guess maybe they don't think the reinstatement will happen.

I doubt they would ever get what he is worth talent wise, they might do better just keeping him

Sometimes you're just done with a player and he becomes a distraction to the team. Keeping him around another year, having to go thru all of this, they may just not want to go it again. I personally think they could get more for him the longer they wait.

Love how people hear a rumor and call it a done deal. DAL can still back out, so it's NOT a done deal. They won't but still... love how people skip everything between a trade proposal and a processed trade... :wall:
