I watched top 100 players of all team the other night of Jerry rice was #1 it occurred to me why don't NFL teams bring in jerry rice Marvin Harrison issac Bruce and make them WR coaches? Why is someone not pickin the brain of Jerry rice to figure out how he always got open and how to run routes?

because you can't teach greatness.you got it, or you don't.

Not about teaching greatness but u can teach route running how to get off the line against press coverage how to read coverages etc....

all WRs know the fundamentals on how to get open. Theyve been coached and played the game their whole lives.Guys like Rice, Bruce, Moss etc. put in the time, effort and constructed their own world of play in which they themselves can excel. Teaching it to others won't mean anything.

So I reiterate, greatness cannot be taught.

Unfortunately in order to find out why Jerry was always open you would need a séance since Bill Walsh has passed away. I am not trying to knock Jerry at all, his numbers speak for themselves, but he played with 2 HOF QB's and a HOF coach who designed one of the greatest offenses ever.

If that's the case why does every team have a wr coach? Going by ya response NFL teams are wasting there money on WR coaches? To me if every team has wr coaches why not go get wr who had success I see henry ellard is a wr coach Fred bilentikoff James lofton so there are some

Charlie Joiner has been a receivers coach for forever it seems like. Henry Ellard has been a WR coach in the NFL for about a decade. It happens, but it's not always high profile.

I think the more recent crop may not, though, as they have so much money that they don't need to do anything. Someone like Harrison or Owens made significantly more money than guys like Joiner and Ellard. They'd also rather do what Sapp, Deion and Irvin do, I imagine, then spend time coaching.

Marvin Harrison is an intensively private person, so that is his reason why coaching was not a career path for him.

How did hiring Mike Singletary work out? Playing well and coaching well require different skill sets.

You can say that about just about any field. The best engineers I know would make horrible managers and teachers.

He didn't suggest bringing Rice in as a head coach.
Exactly he'll these guys wouldn't even have to be full time for example I'm a ravens fan I would love to have Jerry rice come in and work with Torrey smith watch film with him show him what he looked for on film show him what he learned about beating press coverage I think this could be invaluable to a young wr

The reason why great players have trouble coaching is because it's hard for them to understand why a player can't do something that they did.

Another big issue is talent, but not in the way you think. Work ethic/attitude is one of the most important talents a player can possess. However, it's very tough to evaluate. Jerry Rice, Harrison, Bruce all had amazing work ethic, a fraction of people in the world have the dedication to one thing the way they did to perfecting the craft of being a WR.
