Apples and oranges. How many player collisions have you seen when someone does the ground ball thing?Yet you see player collisions all the time from people not calling "mine" or "I got it" to alert another player you're coming in and not looking where you're going. It's bush league, but similar stuff happens in hockey with opponents calling for passes. What about when the runner slows down intentionally on a ground ball so it goes underneath him. Is that bush league?
And, on the same show, Joe Torre was quoted as saying he probably shouldn't have done it and he'd understand if Toronto was upset about it.Breed said:Just wanted to add... Baseball Tonight crew last night (Vina and some other guy) unanimously thought it was legit. And that if anyone should be ashamed, it should be the rookie 3B.
And here I thought Omar Vizquel, Frank Thomas, Casey Blake, Troy Glaus et al have played baseball before. [thread][/thread]People calling this bush league have never played baseball.

Reading is a skill. Please learn it, then proceed with posting. TIA.It's bush league becuase it is dangerous. It worked...because it is dangerous. I used to like ARod and kinda felt sorry for him - now I think he's a bush league jerk. And those of you saying "it's part of the game and those of saying it's not haven't played baseball" just stop. Countless of current MLB players have said it's bush league too.
This is a silly argument. OF COURSE its bigger because its ARod -- he has a history of bush league behavior. He's bush league and has shown that repeatedly. If you don't think this is only a big deal because it's A-Rod, you're wrong. Norris Hopper blatantly cheated last week, putting the ball in an unconscious Ryan Freel's glove, and I haven't heard one thing from anyone in the media how that is "bush league".
Im curious, what's the entire record. I know he's got this popup play and the punching of the glove. What else? Cause it needs to be more than 2 instances for me to give him credit for a history. Hard slides and elbows? Well, those are just as easily labeled old school as bush league, depending on your perception of the player. Just seems like this play is alot closer to the hidden ball trick than anything else. Something you expect when little leaguers play, but something not seen/effective in the majors. This is a silly argument. There is a HUGE difference between a hard slide and sliding into a base, rolling over and throwing an elbow into the second basemen. The first one is old school. The second is bush. Also -- please reread the post earlier where I described how he yelled at Sean Casey as he was fielding a grounder during last year's ALDS.Im curious, what's the entire record. So, you've got 3 incidents. And while I think that slide was cheap, I've seen worse. And if you think that was bad, you should read some stories about Ty Cobb.Sorry, but for 3 incidents over a lengthy career is hardly that big a deal. There is a HUGE difference between a hard slide and sliding into a base, rolling over and throwing an elbow into the second basemen. That's actually 4. So how many bush league incidents does ARod need before I can call him bush league? So, you've got 3 incidents. And while I think that slide was cheap, I've seen worse. Like I said, Ive seen worse slides. Hell, the Rose-Fosse play was completely legal and I'd call that closer to bush league. So you say 4, I say 3, and he's been in the league for 14 years. A couple of thousand games and tens of thousands of plays. Now maybe he was doing this stuff before he got to NY. Maybe not. But either way, I hardly find this play a big deal. Its worth a plunking, and thats about it.That's actually 4. So how many bush league incidents does ARod need before I can call him bush league?
How so? Fosse was blocking the ####ing plate.Hell, the Rose-Fosse play was completely legal and I'd call that closer to bush league.
It was the All Star game and an exhibition. Yeah, he shouldnt have blocked the plate, doesnt mean Rose had to break his shoulder. I liked Joe Morgan's take on this on Sunday night baseball. He didn't see the difference between this and trash talking of any kind or the hidden ball trick. Its also apparently a new 'unwritten rule' since he stopped playing. I just dont see this as anything that notable.shuke said:How so? Fosse was blocking the ####ing plate.Hell, the Rose-Fosse play was completely legal and I'd call that closer to bush league.
So is blocking the plate in an All-Star game "bush league"?dparker713 said:It was the All Star game and an exhibition.
