:goodposting: The book had a LOT of character development, including historical aspects.. Then mixed in the Vampires as an added feature.. Guessing the movie will dwell more on the "Vampire killer" aspect than the charter development the book did.. But I am looking forward to seeing this tomorrow morning..

I read the Jane Austen one, and while I wanted to like it more, it really dragged out...to the author's credit, he really keeps true to the storyline/verbiage of the original, so I guess it depends on how much you would enjoy the book on its own, sans zombies and vampires.

This movie looks to me to be a massive failure. It would be one thing if they did it on the cheap, but it looks like they put a huge amount of scratch into it. Horror, in general, does not do well at the box office, unless it is truly scary. This just looks stupid.

The real Abe Lincoln movie, directed by Spielberg and starring DDL, I expect to be incredible though. I am sure it will make this look like a turd in my morning cookie crisp .
They are two different things a comparison is silly.
Snakes on a Plane is probably the appropriate comparison for this one.

You may be right.

I'm in. Did a walking tour of New Orleans this past summer into an old home's courtyard - tour guide claimed that they shot a portion of the show there.I think this book will be the next in my cue.
I was in New Orleans for a conference in 2011 and we were walking around killing time before our flight and stumbled across the set and when they told us the name of the movie they were filming, I figured it was some straight to dvd movie and was disappointed.

Sense of satire down?

I kind of liked Van Helsing.

I read the Jane Austen one too - "Pride and Prejudice with Zombies" and pretty much agree with this. It went on too long, but stayed committed to the shtick and was actually kind of funny, especially if you're familiar with the original book.Same is pretty much true for the "Lincoln, Vampire Hunter" book as well, though there was less of the funny and more of this supernatural/historical fiction approach. Here's the plot of the book, don't read the spoiler below if you don't want to know:
Vampires flee persecution in the Old World for America. In the South, they find slavery a never-ending source of victims that they can easily obtain and are never reported as missing. Another group of "good" vampires who feed only on evil people, want to stop their plan. Lincoln's mother is killed by a vampire in his youth, and one of the good vampires trains this strapping, determined young man to become an ace vampire killer. As he progresses in his career, the wealthy and powerful vampires plot his path to power, knowing it will culminate in the ultimate showdown (i.e., The Civil War) to determine whether the evil vampires will be able to establish the South as their permanent empire. Naturally, John Wilkes Booth is a vampire.
One thing I liked about this book is that I don't understand why the "Fantasy" genre has to always be set in a mythical version of Arthurian England, with knights, and wizards, and dragons. I think a Fantasy series loosely based on colonial America - with a bunch of stragglers trying to establish a foothold on an enormous and mysterious continent populated by fearsome beasts and ancient people with a mystical connection to the gods of the natural world - would be cool. Though I think pulling actual historical personages into the plot might be a little much - medieval-based fantasy books don't have Henry VIII slaying dragons.

Really? Can you expand on this just a touch more? Help those of us out who aren't as advanced in the cinema. So this Spielberg is a fine director?

I feel bad for anyone who gets no enjoyment out of this.

There is also an Abe vs zombies movie on netflix. Straight to DVD, in case you were wondering. It even warns you not to confuse it with the big screen vampire hunter movie. How nice of them. I wonder how much money it made them coming out with this the same time as the vampire movie, ya know, people accidentally picking this one. Genius.
