Addai vs. Rhodes (1 Viewer)

It is apparent that Addai IS the better back.

Yesterday as the Colts were playing conservative in the 4th, Rhodes FUMBLED the ball... giving the ball to the Bills in their end.

Addai looked better too and his TD run showed he had good vision as well. Not to mention Addai's hands.

Can we say Addai is the man in Indy now or will Dungy still tag Rhodes along? How much did the fumble effect Rhodes standing with Dungy and Co.

Thoughts?

for some reason, i don't think Dungy trusts Addai yet. he's been working with Rhodes a long time, and i think he likes knowing what he's getting from him.

as for the fumble, i didn't see the play, but i can only assume since it's only his 2nd all year (in 130 touches) that it won't hurt him that much.

Ok, I can see that. The Fumble came at a BAD time though and why I thought it was more noticeable. A QB that throws a pic the 1st quarter compared to the last play of the game on a possible game winning drive is alot more noticeable. They were trying to wind the clock down and get the win...

NFL coaches do not really care about fantasy football.

Dungy and Belichek (sp?) are having success using two RBs systems and I see no reason why that would change this year for either team.

Edit to add: Fantasy football players look for a reason why there situations will clarify and one back will emerge (like the Rhodes fumble) but the facts seem to indicate that these situations are quite clear: both backs will be used extensively barring injury.

This is unfortunately correct.See Jacksonville, NY Giants, NY Jets, NE, Denver (most weeks), on and on.The "feature back" is falling out of favor. Two backs add more diversity to an offense, even if it does telegraph some of their playcalling.

He had Addai in there lugging the ball to run out the clock, so I'd say Dungy does, indeed, trust the rook. But I do agree that he seems to want to use both guys - whether it's to keep both fresh, they each bring different things to the table more so than the other, etc.

i thought someone said Rhodes fumbled late in the game when they were trying to ice it away. if thats the case, then it looks like Rhodes was the guy to run out the clock, but he put in Addai after the fumble.sorry, i'm only offering conjecture. i didn't see any of the game.but i think this brings up an interesting point strategically for next year. i'll start a new topic on it.

Fair point - I didn't see the game either, but was just following on NFL.com. I may have missed the timing on Rhodes' fumble.Broadly speaking, however, yesterday wasn't the first game that Addai was the one running out the clock. It's already happened at least once during a tight game.

1. They want to keep Rhodes happy and motivated. So, in games that aren't critical, they'll play him about half the time.

2. They want to keep Addai fresh for the playoffs. Too many years the Colts wore out Edge until he had nothing left for the playoffs - they don't want to do that to the rookie.

They play Addai when they need to - to run out the clock yesterday (which if you were watching the highlight shows was not even mentioned) - and vs. Den and NE - two games they had to win for playoff seeding reasons.

I was at the Colts/Bills game yesterday. Rhodes started the game and saw alot more time on the filed than I thought he would. Manning had alot of TE passes (Clark,Utect) and also alot of HB passes.

On a few occasions, Rhodes would start out the drive, and then once it crossed midfield, Addai came in for the rest of the drive.

I do not feel that Addai has a stronghold on the job yet. He is the better fantasy back over Rhodes, and will get more touches on 3rd down and around the goaline, but I am surpised that Rhodes is still getting so many touches.

BTW: I am a happy (but greedy) Addai owner!

What's weird is that the two previous games have almost all been to Addai.

Anyone with any thoughts as to why Rhodes was a non-factor for two weeks then comes back on the radar screen? Simply to keep Addai fresh?

Look about 3 or 4 posts above this one for my theory.
