Addai (1 Viewer)

Shake and Bake

It seemed to me when he rushes, half of the time he is dancing in the backfield which leads to early tackles. If he would lose that he could be fine.

He holds his own catching the ball. I'd say as good as you could hope for.

If he can't fix the hesitation in the backfield though, he will forever be a third down/passing back.

Thoughts? :hophead:

(I think the Colts are even more steamed that the Pats c-blocked them and took Maroney)

**I realize this is his first game etc etc but with RB a lot of times you either got it or you don't**

Spelling cops are out :)

might have been because half of the time his OL protection was breaking down... i wish i had tivo or a photographic memory to check him out again... but i really liked what i saw! He put a nice hit on Gabril Wilson as he was running out of bounds... sure Wilson was off balance... but he bounced right off Addai... which demonstrates to me that the power he showed at LSU, could translate to the NFLcatching was great, blocking was great (he showed both on a play where he did a lil chip block before getting the pass from Manning  )... he looked a tad flustered when Peyton was doing his thing at the line... but i didn't see him miss an assignment or cause a delay of game

i did see him get stuffed on a 2nd and goal (from the 2 or so) and a 3rd and short in the redzone... but they tried to run him right up the gut but were unable to open any holes.

i think it's gonna be hard for Rhodes to keep this kid off the field.... i can't wait to see what he can do against a weaker D... like Houston next week :)

He danced a lot in the Seattle pre-season game, but I didn't see much dancing last night. I thought he did fine.

Rhodes, solid but not spectacular.

Addai, ran hard, blocked well, caught some balls, some negative rushes as well.

They're easing him into the role.

Week 4 is a bit early, but I'd look for more and more addai as the season wears on.

I thought he looked a good deal better than Rhodes. The first couple runs Addai had he looked great, especially the very first carry he had. I don't think either back won or lost his job against the Giants though.

I do not think either back looked very good yesterday. I don't think the game changed anything. If Addai is going to take over, he better do better than that. (Unless you mean "take over" where he gets the better side of the 55/45 split).

Maybe I was missing the split or rotation or whatever, or maybe its just my Rhodes-colored glass, but I thought it was telling when Addai couldn't convert a crucial third down, then Rhodes was in on the next series and converted at the goal-line. That made me feel loads better about Rhodes, who really did not look good most of the game. However, I think the Giants defense is a force.

I do agree the jury is still out on this one...

Both backs looked very poor running inside because the OLine did a very poor job. When they shifted to running outside both improved. They still were not great, but they were better.

I thought Addai looked better than Rhodes but clearly nothing was decided by last night poor performance by both of them.

Both looked average vs. a tough Giants D in NY

Rhode had the TD and almost 2:1 touches vs. Addai, so saying the rookie is anything more than a backup is premature.

Rhodes 19 touches (16/3)

Addai 10 touches (7/3)

Addai = JJ Arrington.
This comparison is weak. Addai has the measurables to be a feature back in the NFL...Arrington is a scat back with limited upside. Arrington will never be the man in a backfield while Addai will be the starting RB for Indy by week 8.Addai is no Edgerrin James but he's certainly better than a scrub like JJ Arrington. The Colts seem to be doing the right thing by playing the vet (Rhodes) while slowly bringing the kid along (Addai). With Manning's audibles the Colt offense isn't one where it makes any sense to start a rookie. Last night I thought Addai looked like the superior player but he should not be the starter until he learns the ropes a bit and proves he is solid with the playbook week to week as things are added.

Last night after the game Peyton said that the Colts were going to have to improve in the running game... it was obvious that in general they struggled running the ball. I think at one point they were averaging 2.2 ypc between Rhodes and Addai.

Comparing the two, Addai ended up with a way better average:

Addai 7/26 - 3.7 ypc

Rhodes 16/29 - 1.8 ypc

But there were good things to take away from each player...

If you want Rhodes to do well then you are happy about his # of carries and his goaline touches and his score... but concerned about 1.8 ypc.

If you are pulling for Addai then you will point out his ability to catch and block and also his higher ypc.

In general both looked good catching and blocking, the offense will be a pass first run 2nd team all year...

That team is built for pass blocking over run blocking. Rhodes is essentially another Mike Anderson or Reuben Droughns runner in the sense that he seems better able (at this point) to take what the defense gives him and to reliably get a yard or two or five without losing yardage. The problem is that he'll only rarely get more than 10-15 yards on a run play.

Addai may end up being very good and certainly has explosion that Rhodes doesn't have, but he needs to learn from what Rhodes is doing and realize that sometimes getting those unsexy three yards and going back to the huddle is a far more important thing to do on a team led by Peyton Manning than is risking a loss or no gain by trying for a big play. He certainly isn't as far along in that regard as Edge was as a rookie.

Until the offensive line improves it won't matter who is the running back, there weren't many holes or opportunities although I didn't see the entire game. The line was having trouble giving Manning a pocket to throw in also, forcing him to move around a lot and throw while on the run. When the line is better then we can compare the running backs.

Exactly. Their running concerns me some, but the Colts' OL concerns me a A LOT LOT more.

GM Bill Polian on his radio show was glowing about how well both RBs did on Sunday. Yeah, he really did. At least he said the DL played badly (gee, you think)?
