Adding things to foods that don't need to be added. (1 Viewer)

You really want a bunch of bread crumbs and crap as a side? Just whip up some Stove-Top. It will come out OK almost every time.

I wish I had a dollar for every time some woman said at Thanksgiving or Christmas "I'm not sure about the stuffing. I tried a new recipe/I'm not sure it cooked long enough/it looks a little funny."
A) Sounds like they're making dressing and not stuffing.

B) They've no idea what they're doing.
Either or.

Canned tuna in, well, pretty much anything.
My wife tells me that she made some Mac and Cheese the other day. Am I excited because I wants me some M&C. Not looking closely enough becuase she forks some into my mouth and I almost died on the spot and spit it out. SHE HAD PUT TUNA IN IT! WTF does that?Is this grounds for divorce? No judge in the land would question my desire to end it at that moment would they?
That's gross. Hot dogs on the other hand...

Grapes, nuts, craisins etc. in Chicken Salad. I love the occasional chicken salad sandwich but I don't need fruits and nuts in the mixture. Celery, sure, not fruits and nuts though.
We make our chicken salad with craisins and sunflower seeds. Had a guy come in and order it the other day. He takes one look at it, points to one of the craisins, asks "what the hell is that?". He returned it saying he "just wants chicken salad in his chicken salad".

Different strokes, I guess. Most seem to love it, and I can't make find the time to make enough to keep it in stock. While I personally like chicken salad with fruits/nuts, I don't care much either way. Really, we only do it that way because I figure people that just want a chicken and mayo chicken salad can/will make it themselves or get it a million other places.

That same guy, btw, did order a Pulled Pork Patty Melt today and loved it. I was a little surprised. I guess he's a Chicken Salad purist, but not a BBQ sandwich purist.

Reminds me of Eddie Murphy Raw when he's describing the burger stuffed with all types of #### his mom made and his friend who got the McDonalds burger.

only acceptable pizza topping is pepperoni
+ mushrooms
Don't think I've ever had a pepperoni and mushrooms pizza. I know what we are having tomorrow!
Whoa - slow down there MsZimmern. Now you are just getting CRAZY.

Add crumbled sausage and/or onions.
Anyone ever coming to NY should stop at Patsy's and get the Sausage/Onion pizza. So ####### good!

Can we please stop wrapping things in bacon? I'm not talking about a hotdog that is wrapped/fried in bacon where the bacon gets crispy. I am talking about bacon wrapped scallops and bacon wrapped filet mignon where you have to peel away and waste the flabby half-cooked bacon.
#### YOU!

I didn't see this before. If done correctly, the bacon isn't flabby. And if it is, its still flavoring whatever its wrapping.

Thanksgiving staple at our house: Bacon wrapped green bean bundles.

Let's just cool it with ####### CRAISINS and/or RAISINS in all savory dishes. Get that #### the #### out of my ####### sandwiches, slaws, and salads. And if you're going to add these to a savory item on your menu, I need to be informed up front.

Let's cool it with flavored iced tea. Iced Tea does not taste like Iced Tea when someone has pissed passion fruit into it. It tastes like juice.

No more with the nuts in ice cream. Pistachio ice cream is probably my favorite....the kind without ACTUAL pistachios in it.

Get you fruit out my salads. GO.

Stop adding Sunflower Seeds to stuff. Panera now adds them to their Squash soup as a "topper". #### off.

Pineapple on pizza = die

Walnuts on ANYTHING = die worse

Bacon ####s up the taste of scallops. Actually bacon overpowers most everything it's associated with. Leave it for breakfast.

Whoa there GB let's not say stuff we can't take back

Mrs. Bobrucz: I hope you like my stuffing.

Donna Elliot: Oh, well, the French do a wonderful thing with their stuffing. Apples, grapes, and raisins. Right, honey?

Darcy Elliot: Mm-hmm.

Mrs. Bobrucz: How creative.

Mr. Bobrucz: Yeah, except in this country, we don't call that stuffing. We call that fruit.

I can't remember the last time I've eaten something and wished they hadn't put a particular item in it. If its good, that one additional ingredient ain't going to make or break it. Its just a different twist on something good.

The addition of raisins has ruined every food I've ever eaten that has raisins in it. They can even make a cookie taste bad. That's hard to do.

Really? Oatmeal raisin cookies are fantastic. Rice pudding with raisins where the raisins soak up some of the moisture and get nice and plump and juicy is fantastic.

Tastes like butt.

I love me some butt

for some of my summer sandwiches that had an asian twist, i would offer a small side of asian/fusion slaws (i would change it up). one of them had pineapple and chopped macadamia nuts. one was a shraded green papaya salad. both very popular.

between thanksgiving and Christmas, thanksgiving has been "my" holiday. my dressing/stuffing has been a staple. it includes sausage, dried apricot, dried currants, dried cherries, fresh diced apples... with a little apricot or cherry brandy thrown in. This is something i also used to put on my restaurant's thanksgiving menu..... i always had to make extra.

Agree - not necessary, BUT cream cheese, cranberry sauce with turkey on rye is pretty wonderful. Add some red pepper flakes in there too.
I knew it. Elvis Lives!!!
Turkey + stuffing + cranberry sauce on white with mayo, salt, and pepper. I actually ease off the accelerator during the hot meal on Thanksgiving just to make sure I have room to power down two of these bad oscars during the late game.

Yeah, those sandwiches are great. Not sure when I have them if there's not a little bit of gravy on it as well. Not too much which would make the sandwich sloppy.

Bull####. Put celery in almost anything = ######-up anything.

Exactly. I'll throw some gravy on too sometimes but you have to be very sagacious or you'll end up with a soggy mess.ETA: A technique that's worked for me is to bring the gravy to room temperature or just warm and then drop the sandwich turkey in for 20 seconds to soak it. Then, use that turkey to make the sandwich.

Love celery in chicken or tuna salad to give it a nice crunch without overpowering it like would happen if you go overboard with the onions.

Maraschino cherry on top of a milkshake. I get that a lot of people like those vile things on their sundaes, so even if the server doesn't ask (which they usually do), I know to request one of those without a cherry.

But to put one on a milkshake as the default is just wrong. Simply taking it off when you get it isn't a good option, because by that time the nasty blood of the thing as seeped all over, leaving it's disgusting trace in every sip.

I don't even mind raisins, but I agree that everything they're used in tastes better without them. Oatmeal cookies, rice pudding, zucchini bread...

This would work with asparagus also. Looks great!

Too many onions in guacamole ruins it.

Stuffing with sausage and gravy is the best part of the Thanksgiving meal if the cook knows what they are doing (making it with the turkey drippings).

Bacon should be just by itself. On anything else (perhaps other than a blt) it's a waste.

Sugar should be left out of the whipped cream for toppings on desserts. It complements the already extremely sweet dessert so much better. I think I'm the only person in the world who thinks this though.
