Adrian Peterson CHICAGO (1 Viewer)

I don't think Peterson is anything special but Benson has looked downright terrible. With each passing week I wonder how much longer he'll keep his job.

As much as it pains me to say this, Benson will be the man in Chicago until 2009. So I dont ever expect to see Peterson take the lead.

I think Peterson could do a better job than Benson and with his receiving skills would not have to be pulled on some third down situations - unfortunately I also think that the Bears coaches view Peterson as a situational back (AND don't have the stones to play him or he and Wolfe instead of Benson)

Benson needs to get injured a bit.. maybe like a sore ankle.. that will give the team the excuse to switch (not that losing isn't enough of one right now).

Barring injury, unfortunately it appears Chicago Peterson's best case scenario is a RBBC. He's decent in PPR, though.

From the Sun Times today...

Smith lamented the continued struggles of the ground game and Cedric Benson. He promised to forge on and the way Jerry Angelo constructed the roster, it doesn't seem as if the Bears have much option but to continue handing off to the former No. 4 overall pick.

This is nearly as frustrating as the Dunn/Norwood battle, except few people expected AP to compete for the starter job. I don't know much about AP, but I'd think you at least want to give it a shot. 5 years in the league, and not one start, so why not roll the dice? The one time in his career he got more than 20 carries, he went for 120Ru/34Re/1TD. It was against the 9ers, but still. What in the world do you have to lose at this point?

My best guess is that Chicago likely desperately wants to give Peterson a shot, but Benson's such a mental case that they're afraid they'll completely ruin him for good if they go that route. I'm of the opinion that Benson sucks regardless, so I wouldn't worry about that if I was running the Bears. Don't get me wrong, Peterson's not a special talent, but he'd produce more and be a better fit in that offense than Benson is.

Benson is just not a skilled RB, Thomas Jones fit the Bears offense much better.
