He didn't 'realize' he was going that fast?? Um, Adrian, you were going twice the speed limit.

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was cited for speeding over the weekend after police clocked him driving 109 mph on a highway in suburban Minneapolis.

Peterson was driving his BMW on a state highway in a 55-mph zone. Anderson says he was given a citation and allowed to drive away. She called it a “very routine” traffic stop.

Peterson tells The Associated Press he didn’t realize how fast he was going. He said he “got a little speeding ticket” and said he planned to be more careful.

He wouldn't get one on the field this year. That 15 pounds he added in the offseason may have given him more power but hurt his speed a bit.

You sound overly skeptical. I had a beater through college. It shuddered and shimmied when I hit 70 mph. After college and when I could afford a nice car, unless I am looking at the speedometer I cannot tell if I'm going 65 or 90.

You wouldn't know if you were going nearly 55 OVER the limit? Maybe the fact you'd be flying like a rocket past cars that looked like they are standing still?

He said he didn't know he was going that fast, not that he didn't know he was speeding.

Just busting on you in a friendly way, but your screen name is "hotlanta" and you ask how he didn't realize how fast he was going? Growing up and frequenting Atlanta regularly, I know you can be going 85 mph in the right hand lanes of I-285 and I-85 just to keep up with the pace of traffic :wall:

Doesn't Minnesota have no speed limit in some parts of the state? Or is that Montana?
Montana, but I think that has been repealed and now they have something like 85 mph
It was Montana. I know they were talking about putting in speed limits. The problem is that people in Alberta like to go down there in their expensive cars and drive 160 MPH and it was getting to be a problem.I dont know what speed limit they decided to set it at, but 85 MPH sounds reasonable for that place and the level of crazy that goes with it.

I have a M3 and Ford Expo .... two completly different cars. When I drive the M3 I can hit 90-100 + and hardley notice exactly how fast Im going ..... driving the Expo if I hit 75 I think Im about to take off into another galaxy.i can see the point.... different cars are built for speed.

Not in suburban Minny. Maybe out near Brainerd or on the road to Fargo......but I doubt it.
Not in MN at all. He actually should have had his car impounded on the spot.
Just a reminder that famous celebrities, athletes, hot women, off duty firemen and policemen are above the law.

That's actually very true, except its the left lanes not the right. I drive on I-285 every day and am astonished at how fast people really go without even caring. I regularly see people doing 90+ on 285 without nary a cop around. I don't think Georgia employs any state troopers to be honest so as soon as people get out of Alabama or Florida, it's pedal to the medal around here.

LOL...drove from Florida to NY 2 years ago (never again) & got pulled over for speeding by a forest ranger in Georgia...got speeding & tailgating tickets on the way back to Florida in Maryland (looking at Camden Yards)

Huh? I grew up in Florida and had family in North Atlanta and South Tennessee so I've made the old Florida to North Georgia I-75/285 trip about 50 times. Traffic moves way, way, WAY faster in Florida. Georgia is littered with construction and about 10x the density of state troopers. Ever single ticket I've ever gotten has been in Georgia even though I drive 10-15 mph slower there. In Georgia if you do 90 you're passing people, as soon as you hit that Florida border if you do 90 you're getting blown by. And let's not even talk about if you end up taking the turnpike down to South Florida, where 100 will get you rear ended in some of the open parts.Anyway, I believe that while he knew he was speeding, Peterson didn't realize he was going THAT fast. I drive a 350z and, while I'm often aware that I'm speeding, I will sometimes look down at the speedometer and be surprised at just how fast I'm actually going. You can't tell the difference between 110 and 80 in those cars.

just to add ... Double the legal posted speed limit in minnesota means you are brought directly to jail. How much do you want to bet he was driving faster then 109?

Was he listening to Hagar?
I like it!

Agreed. Trip from DFW down to Houston I have had to use a radar detector because once I get open space in the camaro...I have no idea just how fast 125 is when it's compared to 80. With a radar dealy...it's no problem! But seriously. Sports cars make it hard to tell the difference between really fast and extremely fast.

And Montana had no speed limits until the federal highway commission said they would pull funding for all states that didn't have a speedlimit of 55. It was later changed to 75 or so after all the hagar business and angry people.

oh for sure. Cops do give breaks to people though, I have gotten a couple breaks from cops myself while speeding. AD has earned a break or two around here imo.

I don't disagree with ya. Although I do think his attitude about it all could probably use a little adjustment.

He was probably only in 3rd gear in his Lambo.

What idiot cop in Minnesota gives ADRIAN PETERSON a speding ticket?

Get an autograph and let the man go!

grandpa? :tumbleweed:

Yeah I guess because I would realize when I was going 110 and flying by everyone like a rocketship that I was speeding. And that makes me a grandpa? Your response makes you a dumb ####.

And anyone who says they can't tell the difference between 80 and 110 MPH is an idiot, plain and simple. Who gives a rats ### how the car feels? LOOK AT OUTSIDE!!! Anyone with an IQ over room temperature should be able to make that distinction. Apparently, some on this board, can't.

You have no idea until you've been in a car capable of going from 80 to 110 in a blink of an eye. As stable as the high end cars are at that speed, with low wind noise and quiet tires to boot, yes, it IS very similar. Especially if you have been driving 80-90 for a long stretch, you get velocitized. Ever get off a highway and the next road is 45mph? It feels like you're going 25 at best. Can you tell a difference if you try? Sure, but if you neglect it and have your mind elsewhere you can easily slip up in a high end BMW.
