Adrian Peterson is unbelievable (1 Viewer)

293 to go ...
294 to break it -- it would be sweet if he can break it next week against the Texans, while also breaking his own single-game rushing record. That's not likely, though, against such a tough Texans D -- it would also be awesome for him to break it in the final week against the hated Packers.
Formerly great Texans D. They allowed 281.6 yards per game over their first 9 games, good for 2nd in the league. Gave up 439.0 yards per game over the next 4, dead last in the league. Had a good game against the (wildly overrated) Colts this week, but they've looked very vulnerable recently. Still, 300 rushing is unrealistic regardless of how good or bad the opponent is. It's all going to come down to the Packers game.
A good game? Vick Ballard was 18-105 or 5.8ypc. That is Ballard's best yardage and ypc game of the entire year. So, while the total yards look OK, you just gave up the first 100 yard game of the year to the Colts and a guy who had 562 yards on the year. That is not good. You could say they concentrated on Luck, but Luck had 27 attempts and Ballard ran 18, so it was a pretty balanced attack, far more balanced than the Colts usually are.I would think that Peterson is going to do very well against the Texans. Like many others, I whiffed on Peterson although I think he went in the 1st in one league and the 2nd in another. He didn't really drop that far in the drafts I remember.

The way he is running, I don't see any way this record stands.

Pretty cool that he is so similar to Dickerson too.

He is the MVP. I'm not a Viks fan but I watched enough of their games to know that without AP, the vikes might only win 3 or 4 games. I know everyone is looking for Manning, but to me, it's more impressive for a running back to do this when teams stack the box and EVERY team tries to gameplan to stop AP and they CAN'T.

MVP.

Vikings are going to the playoffs pretty much solely on the back of Peterson. Broncos went to the playoffs and even won there with Tebow.
I know this thread is not about manning but ask yourself how important he is to that offense ?? Im pretty convinced the guy calls every single play
He does, but damn if what Andrew Luck did with 11 wins leading the Colts isnt more impressive then Peyton getting 13 with the Broncos.

Long-time owner of ADP in one of our keeper leagues (keep 2) dropped him before this season. He failed to make the playoffs and had the worst record in the league. That hurts.

Whatever team hires Mike McCoy as their head coach next year is going 3-13.

That's not fair to McCoy. He did a great job last year. The fact that he's not stubborn, that he's willing to fit his offense to his personnel rather than trying to stuff a square peg into a round hole, speaks volumes about him. In his last half decade as an offensive coordinator, he has overseen the DeAngelo/Stewart show in Carolina when they were running over everybody, the McDaniels spread with Orton and Lloyd, the Tebow Wishbone offense, and now Manning's super-vanilla precision timing offense. Four completely different offenses... And they've all been good. But yeah, this season, his job description pretty much consisted of getting out of the way and letting Manning do his thing. And kudos to him for not being too proud to just get out of the way and let Manning do his thing.

Or he might have realized that this was the greatest thing that could ever happen in his career if he just gets out of the way and let Manning do his thing.

If Green Bay would have let him score on the last run, would people respect the fact he broke Dickerson's record?

I'm going to say that what AP did this year is the single most impressive season I've ever seen a guy have, in ANY sport.

9 freaking yards. Just think- ADP is one holding penalty away from breaking the all-time record. Nuts.
And remember that he did it all within one year from his major knee reconstruction surgery. If they hadn't eased him in as the workhorse at the beginning of the season, he would have blown away the record. He had 17 or fewer carries in 4 of the first 6 games, when he only had 1 100 yard game -- his high game of 102 yards. Over the last 10 games, he only had 1 game with fewer yards than that 102-yard high (when he had his abdominal injury last week and didn't carry the ball late in the game), and had 1598 yards. That's on pace for 2556.8 yards for a full season, which is unreal. He told a reporter his goal for rushing yards this year was 2500 yards, and if the Vikes hadn't eased him in, he may have reached it. If he can keep up the pace of the last 10 games, he'll do it next year, especially if the Vikes can develop a passing game. Dickerson's record may be blown away in 2013...Wow...

Please, the guy had 348 carries, #2 in the league, three carries behind Foster. You can say a lot about his season but not that he should have had more carries. And the probability that Peterson sniffs 2000 yards again are miniscule. Less than 5%. Dickerson didn't, Sanders didn't, TD didn't. 2000 yards requires not only a lot of talent, it requires the perfect situation to continue for 16 games. One injury on the offensive line, a couple of blowout games where the run is abandoned, and 2000 yards is shot. It was an amazing season. It's a shame he didn't get the record, because it would have been fun to see him do it, especially in a game that counted. (Dickerson's last game was irrelevant, though it was against the 14-1 and later Super Bowl champion 49ers, who played all their starters). But let's keep some perspective.

We'll see. The probability of him playing at a top level within a year from torn ACL surgery was also minuscule. He's not Dickerson, Sanders, or TD...

That's all true, but if there's anyone who can do it twice, or get close twice, it's gotta be AP.
We all said the same thing with Dickerson, Sanders, etc....

AP's season was amazing. i'm sure he's going to get drafted #1 or #2 in almost every redraft league around the country next year. And due to standard regression to the mean I'm saying he doesn't crack 1400 yards and 9 scores. But no one is going to have the stones to not take him first or second

Peterson is very likely to score less in 2013 than he did in 2012, but so is everyone else who scored well. He's obviously the correct #1 overall pick in terms of expected value. If you pass on him you're letting the cojones do the thinking for the big head.

Dickerson, Sanders, etc. didn't break 2k within a year of torn ACL surgery. Peterson should be better next year in the 2nd year after surgery, per his world-renowned surgeon:http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000121668/article/dr-james-andrews-minnesota-vikings-rb-adrian-peterson-has-defied-all-oddsWorld-renowned orthopedic surgeon James Andrews believes Adrian Peterson could be even better in 2013. And that's after the Minnesota Vikings running back ran for 2,097 yards -- the second-most in NFL history -- this season after tearing his anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in December 2011."I say an athlete after (an) ACL (tear) is much better the second year back than the first year back," Andrews told the Pioneer Press. "First year back is a wash. It hasn't been a wash for him, obviously. After 24 months, (an athlete is) a lot more mature and confident."Who knows? Adrian may be better next year than this year.""Running backs don't come back within the first year like that in the NFL," Andrews said. "They may come back and play a little bit. They don't do what he did. Nobody's ever done that if you look at the statistics of players returning to the NFL. We did a study. Running backs are the hardest to get back, period."
