Adrian Peterson Status Updates (1 Viewer)

The thing is the AP incident with his kid happened before the New Domestic Violence Policy was announced. Therefore, under the old rules it is likely he would not have been suspended at all for a misdemeanor first offense.

The league really doesn't have much legally they can do to AP without risk being sued and taken to court again and probably losing.
It's also telling that he's not suspended by the league, but is on the 'Exempt List' by the Vikings. The league knows it's in an awkward position and faces a nasty battle if they try to tack on a suspension after he pleads guilty to a misdemeanor charge.
The writing on the wall is there, if people choose to read it thats fine, if they dont then its on them. No player (person) ever with so much to lose will plea out to a legal charge during a season in which he gets his salary for just sitting on the couch unless something is to be gained.

I know people hate ADP, I know they want to hang their hat on morals but it is what it is. ADP will play this year and the writing on that wall says so.

Some will just argue to argue. Remember the time when people were turning blue screaming Gordon will not play this year? How did that work out? Those people were wrong and made fun of everyone who though he would play.

I tend to agree with this. Adrian is one of the biggest names in the NFL. If the NFL will open up it's labor agreement and rework it just to get a player of Josh Gordon's stature on the field, they will move heaven and Earth to get a sure fire hall of famer like Adrian Peterson on the field in his prime. Taking it a step further, even if Adrian were to retire today, he isn't going anywhere. He's going to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame and he's going to be enshrined there. They can't bury their heads in the sand and just move on from him. He's one of the very best players ever to play the game, maybe THE best. They have to address it. Why not now right before the Vikings miss the playoffs and there are other story lines. You bring him back late in the season and let him play a few weeks at the end just so you don't have to deal with the media circus of doing it next season during the summer.

If he plays 4 games this season there will be some noise but not much compared to the playoff races, MVP races, storylines like Brady vs Manning in the playoffs, Rodgers vs Luck in the Super Bowl. Adrian will be a story for about a week and then he'll just quietly move into the offseason. I can guarantee you Mike Zimmer wants him playing next season but could really do without media circus in August.

The NFL & NFLPA did not rework the test guidelines just for Gordon. He definitely benefited but he still has a 10 game suspension.

Let's cut to the chase: the first time, the public and sponsors reacted strongly to the accusations and supposedly whatever graphic pictures are out there. What is different this time? Just time itself and the fact that AP will have accepted responsibility?

The Gordon case convinced me that the league has separate rules for its superstars. Gordon should be sitting out all of 2014 and likely missing a chunk of 2015 while getting reinstated, but here he is coming back after just 10 games.

I don't buy the idea that the league is going go out of its way to harshly punish a player who is going to be inducted into the HOF less than ten years from now.

Just coincidence, right?

I mentioned when the outrage happened that people have very short attention spans and this case is now old news.

He will be on the field by week 12, Over or Under? Go.

I take the under. Sitting on him is almost like sitting on Gordon. How strange of a season would it be to have two superstars back on the field the same season and same week when some were wondering if either would ever be able to play again just 8 weeks ago.

Well IMO it looked like the NFLPA was sick and tired of the recreational drugs being hammered for minimal traces and the NFL was desperate for HGH testing. So that was the impetus and the timing was right. Now Gordon was definitely the poster child and the timing of his suspensions really highlighted several issues affecting everybody. But I don't think they went through all those hoops just for Gordon. In fact I still don't understan why the penalty goes from 2 to 4 to not 8 but 10 games. If they wanted to get Gordo out there they could have just made it 6 or 8 games.

What's at stake for the NFL with AP? They have residual bad image issues from Rice. They are running these self-serving PSAs about domestic violence. Now what's the move for them? On the flip side they have a policy in place now and he has done 6 games already (and then some). If AP is released from his legal obligations via plea, what can the NFL do to keep him off the field now? Basically the only sticking point is the paychecks he has received and he has yet to receive league punishment, but as you pointed out they could just demand that he turn over his paychecks and consider his time out as time served.

If the league does all that then the "outraged" segment of society and the sponsors can look to this, and maybe the appropriate AP mea culpa at a press conference, and say AP has done his public penance.

As a Gordon owner from day 1 in a short bench league, I don't know if I can ride another roller coaster...."he's going to play....no he's not" situation. Barely making it thru bye weeks and such.

Reports he will plead guilty to a misdemeanor..

Sources tell Fox 26 News in Houston that Adrian Peterson will plead guilty Tuesday to a Class A misdemeanor assault charge in his child abuse case. The plea deal is a move that could pave the way for his return to the Minnesota Vikings this season.

Peterson and attorney Rusty Hardin have apparently been in contact with the NFL to explore what kind of punishment he could agree to that would allow him to return to the football field as soon as possible.
Let the :hophead: begin..

It's early in the week - maybe confirming suspicions a deal is already in place?

I wish they had let it go a couple more days because I was hoping this was still slightly under the radar. Now I am guessing there will be a scrum on the waiver wire.

Still think that IF he is going to return any ways.. It is best for the NFL and the Vikings to get it over with as soon as possible..

Reactivate him some time this week for week 11 at Chicago.. two weeks before the game to let the media go :loco:

By the time the Vikings return home in 3 weeks for 3 straight home games the National media will have lost interest.

And with a chip on his shoulder the size of the metrodome. HOF RB running with maximum fury and seeking redemption, there will be hell to pay.

Pretrial date was already set for today a month ago... So knowing they were going to be in court any ways, ADP, his attorney and the Prosecutors have been working out a plea deal to get this ugly mess out of the way.

This will be the biggest WW rush I can think of in a long time, due to not only timing (News stirring up on Sunday just before WW locked for kick off and plea agreement potentially reached on Tuesday with most WW's running Wednesday morning) but also due to the situation - AP with fresh legs and the Vikings in the hunt.

Spend all your FAAB/pray he falls to you in snake WW.

So glad I dropped sims in all my leagues for him right before kickoff Sunday.

At the risk of sounding too much like a post for the AC forum, what kind of FAAB bids would you be expecting to see being enough to get Peterson?

Weeks 12 and 13, at home, vs two of the worst run defenses in the league when he has fresh legs.....

Just saying.

Does A.P. play this year maybe, but you need to consider:Some sponsors of the Vikings have said they will not reinstate their sponsorship if A.P. comes back, regardless of the court decision. This is money out of the owners pockets.

The governor of MN who fought hard for funding for a new stadium has been very outspoken about A.P. coming back, were talking a lot of tax payer money being spent. Would not be a good p.r. move by the Vikings to bring him back.

The statement that A.P. told the court when he tested from drugs that he smoked some pot, I think the NFL and Vikings will take some time looking into this, slow him down getting back on the field.

This is new ground for the NFL, their not going to rush into a decision, and if the Vikings continue to pay A.P. while the league and Vikings do a complete investigation, is the union or A.P. going to start a law suit, I don't think so. No loss for A.P.

I think the owners would like A.P. back this year as they dream of playoffs, but I think in the coaching staffs heart, they moved on, this is Teddy's show, A.P. is not going to be back next year at 12m contract at 30 years old.

So yes, I think A.P. could be back this year, but in near future no, maybe week 15, to much at stake for the Vikings, NFL to rush into a decision, and again if A.P. continues to get paid life is good for him.
Guy who drafted ADP and dropped him last week? Sorry for your loss.

JMHO, how Adrian Peterson manages the PR of this plea is critical. I have to say, I question a 'no contest' plea from PR perspective. Based on my impression of how Minnesotans view Peterson, it would play better for Peterson to plead guilty, and express sincere remorse and true appreciation of why what he did is wrong (whether he believes that in his heart or not). No contest almost looks like an Alford plea, where a person is not truly admitting guilt. I don't see that playing as well, but I could be wrong.

Peterson and attorney Rusty Hardin have apparently been in contact with the NFL to explore what kind of punishment he could agree to that would allow him to return to the football field as soon as possible.
The deal has been made, folks. Peterson is coming back sooner than later.

It's going to be very interesting to see how the NFL and Vikings handle this. The Vikings put AP on the exempt list because of external pressures (from sponsors, etc.), so I can see them being willing to reinstate AP immediately in the absence of outside influence. That begs the question of how the Vikings anticipate those external influences that previously affected them will react to such a reinstatement. The information that came out to the public hasn't changed, so I doubt a plea bargain will do much to placate those same sponsors who were ready to condemn and distance themselves from AP before his legal due process was complete. It's not like calling it a misdemeanor changes the public perception of what AP did or said. Maybe they're willing to do an about face if they feel like the initial outrage has died down. It wouldn't surprise me if there was a lot of back-channel communication between the Vikings and their sponsors to test the waters before anything happens.

The NFL, on the other hand, is on a bit of an island. If the NFL basically levies a fine instead of a suspension using the plea to a misdemeanor (or his violation predating the new domestic abuse policy) as an excuse, you would think they would catch some hell for the duplicitous nature of that message. Maybe the NFL doesn't care at all, but I don't think that's a given at this point. It will be fascinating to see how they respond to this.

Dropped him 4 weeks ago. Picked him up 15 minutes before kickoff Sunday morning.

The parallel universe version of me that didn't see that news story Sunday morning and didn't pick him up has 3 ulcers and diarrhea right now. I still feel every owner's pain who is going to have to fight to get him back on their roster. Watch 300 tonight and hope that inspires your fight.

Anyone questioning if they should use all their FAAB..... Do you think missing out on the next Tre Mason or Andre Holmes is worth missing out on ADP? Child please.

I think we all forget how quickly we all forget.

He will be back. He will go on TV saying how much he's learned. He'll play. He will rock. He will be cheered for. We'll forget.

Peterson will plead to one misdemeanor count of reckless assault

Peterson's plea deal was reported earlier Tuesday by ProFootballTalk.com, which also reported that the plea will not include any references to family violence or violence against a minor.
And since the plea does not have a reference to a family member....I'm guessing that it won't fall under the NFL's domestic violence policy.....which means that Peterson might not be subject to the mandatory 6 game suspension...

:goodposting:

This is somewhat related to my PR concern re: AP pleading no contest. If this plays out in a manner where AP takes the "I didn't plead guilty' then I can't imagine sponsors getting back onboard. Everyone loves a remorseful redemption story; I don't think sponsors embrace 'I don't think I am guilty, but I went no contest to get this behind me.' We'll see.

I was really happy to see that was the misdemeanor charge since I was expecting domestic assault. Looks like he dodged a bullet.

This is why we wait for the legal process to play itself out instead of asking for blood before hand. No domestic charge and just an assault charge. If they waited for it to be resolved he would serve less then 6 games of suspension.

I wouldnt be shocked to see him reinstated and fined this week. Give the Vikings a week off and by next week it will be as if nothing happened

As a father, I am ashamed anyone who would inflict pain on their child like he did gets preferential treatment in the eyes of the law. That is my opinion and I am not a lawyer.

As a fantasy owner, :towelwave:  :headbang: :pickle:

Watching the court room on ESPN as Peterson makes his plea, and in the back ground their are six prisoners in black and white stripe garb in awe of Peterson sitting in the front row. Just strange to see a million dollar athlete getting a easy deal while less fortunate criminals get black and whites and no leniency.

Did those guys commit similar acts and you know they received no leniency?

I totally agree that money often unfairly drives the results in our legal system, but this seems to be a reach.

I find your hypocrisy strangely disgusting. Peterson unfortunately becomes a new game piece on an imaganary football board. So I must do what I must to acquire him to keep him from scoring against me in the playoffs. I don't think I can ever have the pickle, headbang, towelwave, thumbup or clap reaction to having on my team. I wish he'd just go away until next year for what he did, maybe longer. How can you be ashamed of a player on your fantasy team and go so over the top with those silly emoticons? Just SMH

Under the old rules nothing was likely because nothing was defined. He had just as much chance to lose 2 games as he did 6. It was literally whatever Rog decided at that moment. All the policy does is put some structure around it. I say "some", because there's a provision for the penalty to be more when children are involved. It's pretty much still a total farce, now you just know it's at least 6 games of a farce.

If I have to tell you how to separate them, then it says more about you then it does me. Like you said he is a piece, a piece I now have in a game to gain money. How dare I put the pickle to now having an elite piece for my team. Am I not allowed to dislike him as a person but own him on my fantasy team? Am I going to let someone else own this first ballot hall of famer because he got charged with a misdemeanor?

i think its funny you talk about my hypocrisy and you say you will do what it takes to get him but wont be happy to own him. Its fantasy football man, hate me all you want for my excitement to getting an elite fantasy piece and being happy about it.

Attorneys for Vikings running back Adrian Peterson are in talks with prosecutors about a plea agreement in his child abuse case, and a deal could be reached as early as Tuesday, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter. Peterson is tentatively scheduled to go on trial Dec. 1 on a felony child abuse charge.

He's accused of striking his 4-year-old son with a switch. Peterson pleaded not guilty.

Peterson remains on the exempt/commissioner's permission list and is not allowed to participate in any team activities. Schefter's report did not specify the terms of the potential plea deal.

I honestly did not think he was going to play again this season, this is sounding very optimistic

I know there a lot of discussion about how this fits in the rules based on his plea. Compare this to Ray Rice. He was never found guilty of anything (by a court) and he is done for the year. I don't think the court result makes it black & white.

I think it will come down to what the NFL & Vikes believe will be the public reaction. If he isn't going to be welcomed back they will keep him out.
