Adrian Peterson, retired (8 Viewers)

In 2008 the Vikings had one playoff game and Peterson had an additional 20 carries 83 yards and 2 TD. Total 404 touches.

He followed that up with 1800+ total yards from scrimmage and 18TD's

In 2009 the Vikings had two playoff games and Peterson had an additional 51 carries 185 yards 3 TD 3 receptions for 33 yards Total 411 touches.

He followed that up with 1539 total yards from scrimmage and 13 TD's

In 2008 the Vikings had one playoff game and Peterson had an additional 22 carries 99 yards 1 reception 8 yards.Total 411 touches.

Not sure what this is, as it's the same year as the first item above and the same touches as the second.
Basically, ADP had a 400 touch season, followed it up with an even better year and another 400 touches and a monster year. The next year he still had a great year. It wasn't until he was in his second year following his second 400 touch season that he blew out his knee in game 12 and then came back for 2K yards the next year.

In other words, ADP doesn't have down years unless his ACL is blown or he gets suspended.

I do think Peterson has been a bit rusty in some areas from having a full season off. Things like fumbling is something he has needed to focus on improving again, thankfully the Vikings have recovered most of his fumbles.

As he mentions, he has been stopping his feet when a clear hole doesn't open right away, that he will focus on keeping his feet moving because that is how he keeps his power and momentum in front of him.

He has never been good in pass protection. Something he has said he wants to get better at and become a good all around RB. Well he may have been working on it, but he hasn't gotten better. The Vikings gave him the opportunity to prove he can be trusted there over the first four games. He failed a lot and the Vikings have pulled him from 3rd down situations now.

Peterson leads the league in rushing yards at 961. The next closest player in this category is Chris Johnson at 734. So Peterson has a 227 yards lead on the rest of the league.

Peterson is 3rd overall in total yards from scrimmage at 1099. Only Antonio Brown and Devonta Freeman are ahead of him. Freeman is ahead of him by 42 yards due to having 29 more receptions.

In standard leagues Peterson is RB 2 behind Freeman with 139.9 points. RB 10 and below do not have 100 points yet.

In PPR leagues Peterson is RB 4 behind Freeman, Ingram, Miller with 156.9 points.

Only two players are averaging over 100 yards rushing per game. Peterson at 106.8 yards/game and Gurley at 101.3 yards/game.
Yeah that guy is really disappointing... The guy is going to break 1,000 yards in his 11th game of the season behind that O-line. Why did I waste a roster spot on this guy? Why doesn't he have 1500 yards by now? So disappointed...
Hey Peterson could have doubled his receptions by now if he could be relied upon on 3rd downs. Those receptions to Asiata could have been to Peterson if he were a complete RB who knew how to pass block proficiently enough to be used on all 3 downs. So that is a real disappointment for me.

To be disappointed about any thing else would be pretty silly. Peterson has carried this team at key times throughout the season. He is currently on pace to rush for 1712 yards which will be amazing if he keeps this pace for the rest of the season.
Peterson has never been much of a pass catcher so why is this disappointing to you now? 95% of his fantasy output is on first and second down his entire career. You shouldn't be disappointed in that, you should have more realistic expectations of what Peterson does.

Outside of last year (and this year of course), Peterson has 206 receptions over the first 7 years of his career. That comes out to about 29 catches per year. This year he's on pace for 33. So he's actually doing better than his yearly average while averaging 4.9 yards per carry, leading the league in rushing behind a suspect offensive line and with a mediocre QB. Again, how is this disappointing? I wish he had a few more TD's but that's a wish, not a disappointment..

ETA Matt Asiata has a grand total of 12 catches on the season for 70 yards. Three games this season he hasn't had a catch and he's never had more than 3 in a game.
It isn't a huge disappointment.. I think it would be a tremendous tactical advantage for the Vikings to be able to use Peterson on all 3 downs and for him to be used on screens. The defense would be less certain of the potential play calls if Peterson was not a liability in pass protection.

Norv Turner has a long history of using a primary RB to do everything and those RB catch the ball a lot when they do everything. He talked about getting Peterson more involved in the passing game since early 2014 after he was hired.

For decades I have been hearing how pass protection is all about effort and want to. That it is a skill any and all RB develop in time.

Well Peterson gives outstanding effort and has terrific work ethic. Despite this he has never developed adequate skills in this aspect of his game.

True to his word Norv Turner used Peterson on all 3 downs to start the 2015 season. He failed in pass protection. A lot. Eventually he was removed from that role and it was taken over by Asiata.

So I am disappointed that Peterson for whatever reason is not able to do this.

From a FF perspective receptions to RB generally leads to easier and more yards than you would expect from an average rushing attempt. If Peterson were the target of those 10 or so receptions Asiata has accumulated he would be at around 30 receptions right now and the yards that come with it, instead of being at 19 receptions. This could have paced for a career year in receptions for Peterson by him having over 43 by end of the season.

As many people play PPR formats Peterson is devalued in that scoring system in a way he would not be, if he were even average in pass protection and therefore had more receptions.

Those things are all disappointing and point towards the same thing.

Why can't Peterson develop his pass protection skills?

Myself and many other Vikings fans have been complaining about how Childress and Bevel would spell Peterson with Chester Taylor so much. Then this continued with Musgrave and 2nd round pick was used on Toby Gerhart to cover Peterson's weakness in this area. So many complaints about this and criticism of the coaches for not using Peterson in the passing game more. Now Norv Turner gives Peterson the opportunity to do that for the first time in his career and he failed at it. Badly.

So along with this disappointment also comes the revelation that maybe myself and other Vikings fans shouldn't have complained about this and blamed the coaches for being so dumb. When the truth is they were just working with what they had and Peterson is not good at this part of his game.

Peterson in my eyes will never be as good as Walter Payton and many other complete RB who can pass protect.

honestly not reading anything but this guy is rewriting history again. He came back so soon after an ACL tear and now at 30 this guy is tearing it up. Guy is a first ballot HOF candidate no doubt and might be the greatest running back ever. Its a bold statement but its not a passing league and what he has done is nothing but extraordinary.

Thats a long post. Excluding the week 1 debacle in SF, Peterson is averaging 25 touch's a game, the least amount of touch's he has had in game excluding week 1 is 20. He has had 31 and 28 the last two weeks. How many times do you want the guy to have the ball in his hands per game, 30, 35, 40? The guy is a horse and is carrying his team.

Ladsud I already answered your question in my long post. So I will just take your question as being rhetorical.

It isn't about him getting more touches, it is about him being a complete player. It would be possible for Peterson to have a similar number of snaps and touches while also being used on 3rd downs. This would provide a tactical advantage against the defense which will typically key on Peterson. If the defense does this it makes it more difficult to defend against the pass because of the threat of Peterson.

He is a great player. Perhaps even greater than Randy Moss as far as Vikings offensive stars. It is easier to talk about his flaws because they are so few.

I can just see the caption below his bust in Canton. "Adrian Peterson. A fantastic RB by most measures, too bad he wasn't a complete player."

He is what he is. A first ballot HOFer at RB that also catches 30 balls a year. Arguing that he isn't doing enough is just plain ridiculous.

So who is his handcuff? Recently it seems Asiata has been spelling ADP. Not sure who to pick up.
As a Viking fan, I think if AD went down you would see a committee much like you did last year, so I don't think there is a clear handcuff out there.

Even if there was, there's such a huge talent dropoff from AP to either of those guys that the handcuff isn't going to help much.

FWIW, AP was sick a few weeks ago and they reduced his workload...giving McKinnon extra carries that week. Based on what I saw last year, McKinnon's lack of TD's concerns me. I'd probably rather roll with Asiata in that situation. Lower floor but higher ceiling?

IMO, McKinnon would get most of the work between the 20s and Asiata would be more in the Red Zone. You might get a few more touches and catches out of McKinnon, but you would have a much better shot at TDs with Asiata.

I have seen McKinnon in on a couple 3rd down situations, but most of those have gone to Asiata who must be the best blocker on the team. I know McKinnon has improved at it, but for now Asiata is better there.

McKinnon has been the COP otherwise. Asiata was very good as a goal line RB last year. This year the offensive line hasn't been making it easy to punch it in from close.

I think McKinnon could be a featured RB and perhaps he will get the opportunity to do more if Peterson was not available. Asiata has actually shown a few moves this year indicating to me that he has been working on getting quicker and being more elusive over the offseason. I think both of them have made improvements on their areas of weakness.

Good info. So...which would you want if you had to pick a handcuff in ppr? In non-ppr?

I prefer McKinnon in PPR. I think he actually has the potential to be very good if given a lot of opportunity. He is explosive enough at times to earn a lot of opportunity. I still see Asiata as more limited. He is not as explosive as McKinnon is. That said I do think he has improved. He is solid for the most part in pass protection, so he gets nice opportunities to catch the ball in those situations. He is also more of a goal line and short yardage threat than McKinnon is. So he might be the better option in PPR because of all that.

In standard Asiata is likely a better bet although I think McKinnon would likely have more yardage.

McKinnon has a higher upside than Asiata does imo.

With the way Peterson has been playing I would fully expect him to be the starting RB for the Vikings in 2016. Maybe 2017 as well depending on how he does in 16.

He wants to play for a long time. He has stated this before, earlier in his career and he talked about that this season as well in how inspiring Terrance Newman is to him to be playing at such a high level at the age of 37.

Thing is, I think he is getting better with each game. Vision is coming back & from that comes the explosion. Just so cool.

Vikings' Adrian Peterson limited; Teddy Bridgewater practices in full

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson(hamstring) and quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (left shoulder) showed up on the team's first injury report of the week, but both were able to participate in at least part of the team's Wednesday practice.

Peterson was a limited participant; Bridgewater took part in the full practice. Neither injury is expected to keep the Vikings' two most important skill-position players out of Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.

Left tackle Matt Kalil was the only Vikings player to miss practice, sitting out with a toe injury. Linebacker Eric Kendricks returned to practice for the first time since sustaining a rib injury Nov. 1 against the Chicago Bears. The Vikings' rookie middle linebacker was a full participant.

Linebacker Anthony Barr, who played with a soft cast on his left hand on Sunday, was listed as limited with knee and hand injuries. Defensive tackleSharrif Floyd (knee/ankle), running back Matt Asiata (quadriceps) and defensive tackle Tom Johnson (concussion) were also limited. Wide receiverAdam Thielen (shoulder), cornerback Marcus Sherels (shoulder) and defensive end Justin Trattou (foot) were full participants.

:lmao:

Hes RB #2 on the year, he will pass Freeman before its all over and be #1.
In standard leagues Peterson is 1.7 points behind Freeman. In PPR leagues Peterson is 30.7 points behind Freeman.

Peterson currently has 237 rushing attempts 1164 yards 8 TD 28 targets 23 receptions 183 yards 1347 total yards.

He is on pace for 1693 rushing yards 11 TD 33 receptions 266 yards 1959 total yards

For most, the playoffs start this coming week. Arizona obviously has a stout D, and it is an awful Thursday night matchup, but I fully expect AP to get at least 25 carries. He will be highly motivated after this debacle and hopefully he can break a long run or two. Also, it bodes well for his body that he such few carries this week. As good as Arizona's D is, there is reason for a little optimism. Am I deluded?

Counting snaps: In Arizona, Peterson sees highest playing time rate under Turner

Running backs

Adrian Peterson: 56
Matt Asiata: 7
Zach Line: 6
Jerick McKinnon: 5

Notes: Peterson was much more involved, which limited the work for Asiata and McKinnon. Typically, Turner has given McKinnon or Asiata an entire series, but that was not the case on Thursday in Arizona as the Vikings made a concerted effort to keep Peterson involved. Peterson saw more work in three-receiver sets, and the Vikings compensated by running some of those looks from under center instead of the shotgun.
Peterson was on the field during 2 minute drill towards the end of the game. He made two good blocks in pass protection that I noticed while failing on another. Overall I thought he gave good effort and perhaps he is earning more trust in this area. He was on the field for 82% of the Vikings 68 offensive plays.

I have seen Peterson being used on more screen passes which is a good thing for him and the offense if this role for him gets expanded.

Asiata just gets forgotten about by the defense at times in a way that Peterson does not.

Adrian Peterson said he "definitely" suffered a sprained ankle Week 15 against the Bears.
"I really can't pinpoint it right now, but it was definitely an ankle sprain," Peterson said. "The bone and everything is okay." Peterson said he will not need an X-ray, but did not know if he would undergo an MRI. Peterson returned to the game after suffering the injury but was not effective. At this point, it looks like Peterson will play next week, but adrenaline can allow players to play through sprains which would otherwise knock them out of the lineup. How he feels in the morning will be a much better indication of his ability to play Week 16. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata split work with Peterson limited.

Ive had McKinnon cuffed to him for a few weeks. Peterson plays Sunday night, hopefully he gets some practices in this week.

I saw the play where Peterson's ankle gets rolled a bit.

After being checked out by the Vikings medical staff he was allowed to return to the game. Peterson had a 10 yard carry that got the Vikings a key first down after returning. I am sure he was in pain, but it was manageable enough for him to make a crisp cut to the hole and he seemed functionally the same.

The Vikings wisely rested him after this with the game in hand. I would expect Peterson to be ready to play against the Giants because he was able to return to the game.

Peterson: The Look In Teddy's Eyes Has Changed

Peterson goes in detail about how he felt after the ankle sprain.

He also talks about Jerick McKinnon.

"He is probably one of the best athletes if not the best athlete on the team. You look at him and you don't think he benches 400 pounds but he does. You don't think he squats over 500? He does. Quick. Explosive. He keeps me on top of my game I can tell you that."

McKinnons SPARQ score was off the charts.

Chew the leaves Adrian. Hope he never wins a playoff game in his career.
I'm sure all of us here are in agreement and wish Sabertooth would just #### and move on already. So sick of you trolling this thread. Go to the FFA to discuss this crap. Unless you have something to say about ADP's on the field performance then just shut up already. The world is over it. You can't let it die. There is something very wrong with you...

His on the field performance has historically gotten players into the fantasy playoffs, where he has disappointed them. That better?

Can you keep that up for maybe the rest of this season and then the one league I own him in I will be retiring from and passing off my team. I would greatly appreciate it... TIA

NFL players union revokes license for Adrian Peterson's agent, Ben Dogra.

http://www.twincities.com/vikings/ci_29352129/nfl-union-suspends-adrian-peterons-agent-ben-dogra

The NFL players union has revoked the license of high-profile agent Ben Dogra and fined him $200,000.

Dogra, who has represented Vikings running back Adrian Peterson among other players, can apply for reinstatement in three years.

The union did not cite any specifics Wednesday in its statement, but said the players on the committee on agent regulations and discipline voted unanimously to sanction Dogra.

A 38-count disciplinary complaint was brought to the committee.

"Ben Dogra adamantly denies engaging in any conduct that was not in the best interests of his clients or NFL players," his attorney, Arthur J. McAfee, said in a statement. "Ben has always been a strong advocate for NFL players and is thankful for the show of support from his clients and others in the industry during this process."

6.3 points against the Bears in Week 15 cost the top point scorer in my auction league to lose. Adrian put up another costly clunker for him. How'd you finish?
