Adrian Peterson update (1 Viewer)

The posted this on ESPN.com about 4 hours ago so I'm sure most have seen this, but if not:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3122583

Seems pretty positive especially the part about him working out the previous two days without any pain. I'd be shocked if he played this Sunday, but I'm shocked that he's actually back on the practice field so anything is possible. Day to day....can't ask for much more.

from 11/17 in case anyone missed it. granted i dont think this guy is tied to the vikes or has actually examined adp himself, but...

Dr. Johnny Benjamin, an orthopedic specialist from Vero Beach, Fla., has been making the rounds with the area media, saying that the Vikings should shut Peterson down for the rest of the season – at least if they intend to look out for what is best for A.P. and not their own self-interest.

Benjamin, who is the chief of orthopedics at Indian River Medical Center, has been the subject of newspaper and radio interviews this week and has been extremely critical of Brad Childress and the Vikings for what he sees as a self-serving reason for getting A.P. back on the field too soon. Benjamin has worked with such star athletes as Daunte Culpepper and Alan Iverson and serves as team orthopedist for the Dodgers during spring training and believes that the Vikings' aggressive timetable for A.P.’s return is simply wrong.

Someone posted an article here about this doctor last week. Seems he is trying to get his name out there by commenting on all of the high-profile athlete injuries, in hopes of becoming the next Dr. James Andrews. I have no idea if this is accurate or not... I'm just sayin'.

I have AP in a redraft OMEGA league where not having him this week in the first round of the playoffs will almost certainly result in me losing. That said, I would be horrified if the Vikes play him this weekend and disappointed if they play him in week 13. The guy is a gift to NFL football and I want to watch him play at an elite level for years to come. My fear of further injury would keep me from enjoying having him in my lineup. Do the right thing, Vikes!!

A doctor, commentating on an injury of a patient he has not examined, is only discussing/criticizing that patients treatment for reasons of self-interest. I guarantee that Dr. Benjamin is not telling every microphone he sees that Peterson should not be rushed back becuase he is on a crusade to preserve Peterson's long term health.Every injury is different and there are few "black and white" scenarios in regards to recovery from many injuries. It's intersting to hear another medical opinion, but what he says should be taken with a huge grain of salt due to the circumstances of Dr. Benjanamin appearances. Now it might change things if we find out that Dr. Benjamin drafted Peterson in his dynasty league. ;)

didnt know that stuff about "dr. johnny" (lol), if that is true. i was just posting the link. in fact, fbg passed that story along last week. i guess i dont understand what it takes to become a respected public authority on sports injuries (such as andrews), but it seems that making seemingly wild accusations about a pro football team's decision making is not the way to go about it. if you're wrong, you're kinda out of luck going forward. no? is he hoping to throw a bunch of s at the wall (re: other athletes too?) and see if any of it sticks, and then continuously saying "i told you so", until we all recognize?

Sprain=Tear, correct? Maybe I'm wrong but I thought all sprains were "tears" in some aspect?

So if they said it was a sprain would you think it was a minor injury or not?

Not that any of this matters. Rest him vs NYG and play him vs DET please Chili!!!

Maybe, but Andrews has seen info on the injury, and has weighed in with a differnt opinion. If Benjamin was really good, he might be the Dodgers' guy for more than just spring training, I'd think.

Vikings: Peterson still not ruled out

By Kevin Seifert, Star Tribune

If not this Sunday, then definitely next Sunday. That was the upshot of tailback Adrian Peterson's return to practice this week, part of his recovery from a torn lateral collateral ligament in his right knee. The Vikings have not ruled him out for Sunday's game against the New York Giants, officially listing him as questionable on their injury report. At worst, however, Peterson seems all but certain to return for the Dec. 2 game against Detroit.

"I pretty much went out there and ran [each day]," Peterson said. "With that, everything is doing really good. I'm going to take it one day at a time, but each day I have improved."

Asked if he felt confident he'd play no later than the Lions game, Peterson said: "Yes."

One obstacle has been a custom-fit brace he has worn each day in practice. Most skill position players eschew them, but Peterson said he will wear it indefinitely.

This is the same franchise that had the lowest paid coaching staff for how many years, and plays in that awful hunk of metal they call a stadium... wouldn't surprise me if they had a doctor who was a little more wishy-washy... Andrews is the doctor I would trust with my blue chip players.I think they are rushing him back because I'm sure Childress feels his job is on shakey ground, and they have a legitimate shot at making the playoffs... Right now it's:DAL (10-1)GB (10-1) WOO WOO! TB (6-4)SEA (6-4)Wildcard: Detroit 6-5 Wildcard: possibly ARI with a win this week to put them at 6-5, also WAS and PHI are 5-5, but PHI will likey loseMIN: 4-6... a win this week puts them one game out of the playoffs... that would sure be a boost to the coaching staff with the team they've thrown together over there

Damn, I knew I was forgetting something... I knew ARI was the potential favorite after this week for the wildcard... couldn't figure out why I was missing one.Yes, NYG are a lock to be a wild card team....

If the doctors okay him to play and AP wants to play. I say put him in and ride him! AP's going to be an injury risk his entire career, may as well get something out of him while they can. AP's after all those bonuses he's got coming. Let him cash in if he wants.

Besides, with that O-line they can stick any RB there and they'll get big yards. As cold as it sounds, AP is replacable.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press writes that Adrian Peterson (questionable, knee) "most likely" won't play in Week 12.

He donned a knee brace as he practiced on a limited basis all week. The most likely return date for him still is Week 13 against the Lions. If Peterson does play Sunday, there's a good chance his workload will be limited. Nov. 24 - 12:03 pm et
